It’s a great story, the Harris Bacon company, and it must be great to have played a part in it’s rich history. I’m in the process of trying to create the perfect ham on the bone, black ham in particular. I know of its basic recipe, but am unable to reproduce the dark rind. I’ll never forget the time Harris Bacon delivered (after recommending it to me) the famous black ham to my shop in Sheffield, Crosspool, South Yorkshire. I’d never seen anything like it, and haven’t laid eyes upon anything like it since, which is a shame really, because it was fascinating, and still is. I come from Dronfield, nearby: the supposedly, oldest butcher’s shop in England, Frank Fisher’s upon High Street, Dronfield, Derbyshire. Noted for cured Ox tongues. There’s an online article in the Guardian newspaper about Frank Fisher, whom i visited regularly. It would be a dream to open it back up. Sadly, he died recently. My only regret is not giving him a helping hand whilst I was out of work after a seizure. It’s been gutted since and needs some restoration, at least to re-open up as a pork butchers shop, which is what I have in mind . What a sight it would be to bring the ham back to life in his old shop Established in the reign of Queen Anne, or there about’s, writes the Guardian journalist. I’d also like to say hi to the delivery driver whom delivered, along with various pork products, the Bradenham ham in the 1990’s to our shop in Sheffield. I’d love to hear from anyone connected with Harris really 😊

Another great overview of the show Pete. I appreciate the work and effort that both you and Janet put into these videos, especially as you are not Bikers yourselves. The Moto Guzzi Marque has been in existence for over 100 years and is the longest running European motorcycle brand in continuos production. They make some lovely Bikes. Thanks again and let's hope for sunshine again next year.

Recognized a few places tho, but boy has it changed. Was fun to watch and bought back lots of great memories. Thank you.

Just ordered this book, both my father and I worked for Harris as van salesmen on the South Coast, he did the Salisbury round for around 20 years. I stumbled across the book while looking on the web, wish I'd known about the book launch as would have loved to be there - have visited the heritage centre a couple of times. Looking forward to the book arriving.

Hi SnarkyJay. Thanks for your comments. Interesting that you mention originally seeing one of my magic videos. Actually most of my published videos are magic related but not available to be seen by the public as they contain trade secrets. They are on KZread as ‘Unlisted’ and can only be seen by having the correct link. I don’t get out & about making videos in Calne much these days as age and mobility are getting at me. I manage the occasional one. However, my friend Janet takes several and I edit and produce these for her and these are on her KZread channel. Calne is very nice now having got over a long period when the town centre was derelict due to the demolition of the very large Harris meat factory. We’ve come a long way since then and we are a quite smart little town so I hope you do visit us. Best wishes. Pete.

She is a young Dutch lady currently riding her motorcycle solo from Argentina up to Alaska. She films some spectacular scenery and is a geologist so has an interest in rocks and historical places of interest. You don't have to be a Biker to watch her vids, she has over 1million subscribers now, many of whom don't ride but just enjoy her entertaining style. Thanks for your very kind comments Kev, but before I blush too much, I think you must have missed the credit to the actual photographer at the very end of the video. My friend Janet Coombs was the photographer who spent many hours walking around the town on Saturday recording the video on my behalf. One doesn't mention a lady’s age but suffice to say that she has been an OAP for many years - but not quite as many as me. My part was all day Sunday & Monday spent editing the actual footage, creating the maps, writing the script for the commentary and, although it was intended for Janet to record the voice-over, she wasn’t available so I did it myself instead. Using my very best Wiltshire accent of course. I did make a brief token appearance in the video. That was me on my mobility scooter outside Marden House. I suppose it can be said that the result was a joint production between Janet and myself. However, many thanks again for taking the trouble to comment, it’s really appreciated. Pete
