Really enjoyed your video and inspires me to explore that area when I return to NZ later this year. The video quality is excellent too - what camera are you using? I have a GoPro 12 and plan to use that, but others prefer something like an iPhone, or a combination of both.

Thanks for the great feedback. I use a GoPro 11, with the lowest Sharpness setting. Some of the stills in this video are from a Panasonic digital camera with a good zoom.
@jeffc16042 ай бұрын
@@wellington_walker That sounds a good combination. Using just the GoPro does limit things; a decent lens on a good quality 'regular' camera overcomes the fixed focal length of the GoPro lens. You were brave to venture so far off the beaten track. Looks hard work but clearly you have the confidence and experience to do so!
@jeffc16042 ай бұрын

Decades ago I climbed up to South Saddle up Mukamuka Stream on a really crappy day - the whole stream bed was sliding down in a stream of rock and slush. Struggled up to the saddle itself but the westerly was horrendous. I got about 5 - 20 m or so and suddenly the wind picked me up and bodily tossed me into the scrub. Took a bit to untangle. Love the clip - it's amazing how much detail I remember even 35 yrs later. Thanks for the memories.

How about that? I did that tramp Mangaone Walkway, Pukeatua Track, then the untracked ridge section to 890 then down to Kapakapanui Hut as an overnight loop about a month later, on 23 August 2023. I then walked out the direct track to Ngatiawa Road then back along Mangaone South Road to the Mangaone/Pukeatua carpark. You probably could have done that on your day trip if you don't mind a bit of road bashing. But I realise it was July with shorter days for you.
