IMHO this is my favorite R&H musical. The songs are just fantastic, and this SanJose company does them proud. I have watched this production multiple times and shall continue to do so.

Aren’t we all trying to live our lives on a stage of our own creation? The real problem is nobody cares about your personal “creation.” I’m an old lady, meeting my last months in this fucked up world and hoping that the next will be kinder and gentler to all of us. I don’t understand this new language and don’t know how to speak it, and for that , I am ever so sorry; but I do know the most important reason for living in this unforgiving world is I am who I am

AMTSJ does it again! If you haven't seen their version of My Fair Lady (found here), look for it. It is also top drawer...and Eliza is magnificent. I don't even know what AMTSJ is, but damn, they're great! Thank you so much!

It's great moment when Zach moves to comfort Paul, then he tries to escape. It's complex, emotionally. Paul Anneli (I think that's him) is very good. I'm a new fan.

The first 30 minutes are making me think that this show could be remade into a really cool classic Disney movie, with a perfect villain song by Carlotta! 😂

Why is one of the actors using the crutches throughout the show, and at the end walking normaly? Was it just a symbol? A metaphor for something?

It was the vision of our director Dianna Schuster. She wanted the character of Annas to be especially slimy and have him moving around the stage with an eerie visual. That was me by the way.

Carl Anderson was still young and extremely professional in this video. No one, in my opinion, has mastered this role as well as he has. I am very happy that it has been preserved for posterity.

This would have been so much better had the director looked for and stuck to the staging, lyrics and orchestrations of the original Broadway production. The movie version already departed too much from this, and this 2008 performance even more so. Why do so many feel the need to improve on or update what is already perfect? The original book and full vocal score are available and we have the original cast album. They should form the basis of any production of Flower Drum Song.

It’s unfortunate that the show closed on Broadway before Mr. Reams was able to play the role there. As much as I love George Hearn and Walter Charles in the role, he truly was in his element as Albin/Zsa Zsa

I'm so happy you uploaded this relic. Things from my childhood is slowly being demolished. Great America was bought out and plans are to demolished it. San Jose Civic Light Opera was renamed after I moved to Southern California. It filed for bankruptcy when I moved out of California. Although you disabled comments for Chess, I'm commenting on Phantom. I even remember the Artistic director Stuart Slater. And I also remember the TV's of the set being set up like "Wet Seal TV''s" as I called it and Freddie Trumpee saying "You'd better come here to play Chess.' And that image stuck with me for over 20 years "You better come here to play Chess." In this same season, I remember Kim Strauss being a regular actor for the full seasin as well as the actor I named Jamie Tortelini because his last named looked like tortellini. It was also amazing that you uploaded Chess because of the late Ann Crumb whom I did not know that she passed away in 2017. I knew of her from the OLC of Aspects of Love and Metropolis. When you listen to her in the San Jose version of Chess, her voice soubds different than her character Maria from Metropolis. However, after listening to her awhile in otger scenes, there were moments where she did sound like Maria ftom Metropolis and I'm like "Yep, That's Ann Crumb!" As a 12 year old, you have images in your head but generally don't have a working knowledge of actors-- especially Jamie Tortellini. But my brain remembered Ann Crumb but at the time I really did not associate it with Rose Vibert. Maybe my sister had not owned the cart recording by then. Anyway thanks for uploading the season I remember as a kid - Phantom, Chess, Assassins, and then the annoying George M and No No Nanette. These productions were from my childhood. So tgsnks uploader. Too many people eho grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, the San Jose Civuc Light Opera has a place on our childhoods too. Luckily, the regional theatre I have in my current city is still found strong. We have actually two strong theatres ihere -- The Paramount and The 5th Avenue Theatre, who also serve as a big part of theatre history. P.S Were these shot from tge in house cameras? Back in 1992, you'd have to sneak in a huge VHS since smartphones did not exist. Hence, I'm thinking this video might have come from one of the cast or crew members of San Jose Civuc light Opera/ American Musical Theatre of San Jose. You see, I don't even call AMTSJ. I call or San Jose CLO because that it us what it was when when I was a kid. Similarly, Candlestick park will always be The Stick. 3com Park sucks. Even though I have never liked sports really, names are part of our personal identity. Hence, even though companies will merge and change names, to us their original brand identity becomes part of our personal identity just like The Stick, Jose Conseco, 49ers, The Stick, San Jose CLO, Marriott's Great America, De Anza College, Mission collegez the 101 and 280 freeways are attributed to our personal and collective identities. As they relics or symbols of brand identities serve as part of hundreds of peoples lives. In fact, I used to call the 92/280 interchange "The Tunnel Way." That was my identity I ascribed to a city identity. And I wouldn't be surprised if another human in this world has given it a nickname as well. But to me, it's "The Tunnel Way."
