Hello, thank you for visiting my channel!
I am exactly what it says on the tin, 'An Average Reader'. I love reading, I love the tech that helps reading be more convenient or fun and this channel is my way of sharing that love with the rest of my fellow average readers.
I am currently training to be a Mental Health Nurse, I am also living with Crohn's Disease. I am an open book when it comes to either of those topics, so if you are ever wondering if you can ask me a question about Nursing, Crohn's Disease or anything else then by all means go ahead.
I am so grateful to everyone who watches and likes my videos, I love to hear from you guys so keep in touch :)

I just finished “Red Dragon” yesterday, and wow. Good book, but now i definitely feel like I need to mix it up with some lighter fare. Just started “The hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy.” 😊
It's funny you should say that, because I finished Red Dragon a few weeks back and went straight into Silence of the Lambs. I had to take a break a week in because it was genuinely affecting my mood. I'm now reading some light rom-com style books. Once I've caught my breath, I shall dive back into Lambs.
I actually ended up dnfing Before the Coffee Gets Cold (partly as I didn’t enjoy the characters, partly due to the translation actually - it felt quite literal to me). I think you may enjoy Convenience Store Woman, by Sayaka Murata, which touches on interesting themes of Japanese society and fitting into it (the main character is obviously autistic, although I don’t think it’s stated explicitly); of Murakami I’ve actually only read the Strange Library, which was a fun, quick read.
Hiya! I love the incense curling over the screen! I’m a mood reader myself (which sounds better than indecisive! 😂) so I’ve always got a few different books on the go. At the moment I’m reading Agatha Christie’s Taken at the Flood, for comfort crime; I’m trying to read more sci-fi/fantasy this year, so I’ve started Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell - this will likely take me a looong time to get through (if you haven’t read Piranesi, you really must!). I’ve also got Legends and Lattes on the Kindle, which I’m really enjoying; and for non- fiction, Ian Mortimer’s Time Traveller’s Guide to Regency Britain. Phew!
I love this! I also have a few books on the go at once. In the past, people have told me they get confused if they read more than one book at a time, but I treat reading the same way I do TV shows. It’s rare that I have just one show on the go, so why limit books? Thanks for listing all of these books. I have new books to research and add to my ever-growing list. 😀
So many books and so little time! Best wishes.
Just stumbled upon your channel and enjoying your vids - congrats on finishing your course and happy birthday!
Thank you for taking time out of your day to be so kind! 💜
finally normal review of this device.
Glad I could be of service 😁
What a coincidence! I was planning to read the first chapter of Assassin's Apprentice to see if it should be my next read but saw this video pop up on my feed. I think after your video I will take the hint and read. 😅😂
Loll, I actually love this! Count this as your second sign: Read it! 😁
@@AnAverageReader07 I did end up reading the first chapter and not quite sure if the timing is right. Congratulations on becoming a registered mental nurse! Happy Reading!
@tag2054 thank you so much! Also I get that, as I said it's exactly what happened to me. I tried it in summer and couldn't get into it, went back to it in Winter and couldn't put it down. Maybe winter was the better setting for me 😅
Loved your review! My libra colour comes in the mail tomorrow. I’m excited.
Yay, excited for you!! Happy reading 😁
Do you know you can put screensaver to your kobo if you create a screensaver folder in the .kobo folder on the device.
i completely agree with you on the battery life. like why are these youtubers worrying so much about the battery on ereaders when our normal high-tech devices have to be charged every day?? one week of battery is more than enough
Love the vlogs so far! I dig your choices. Hope you go far and wide viewership...Murakami reco: Kafka on the shore.
Ah, thank you! I've added Kafka to my wishlist. My birthday is in two weeks, so I'm hoping someone will get it for me then. 😅
Should have gone with the Boox colour, can add kindle app and android apps as its android 12
Yeah, I looked at them, but I already have a very decent Android tablet (Samsung Tab S9 Ultra). I don't really want an e-reader with app capabilities, which I think I did mention in the video. I want to read on it without any distractions, and this one excited me because it also has color.
I came from the kobo videos (and am going to be purchasing one now thanks to you! 😂) and love this concept of almost window shopping for books. I also love that you're looking at and mentjoning lesser known books. I find with booktubers it often feels like I'm just watching the same person over and over because everyone talks about the same group of books that are popular at any given moment. I would like to recommend The Phlebotomist by Chris Panatier. Go into it completely blind though, don't even glance at goodreads or anything, trust me. 😅
Currently reading Grady Hendrix’s “How to Sell a Haunted House.”
Regarding the color Kobo, do you only see color on the book covers? What about books that have colored pictures - I am thinking of naturalist's field guides, travel books, and books published by DK. Do those appear in color?
Hello, yes, anything that is colored in the book appears in color. You can also select different colors when you highlight passages.
Can you change the weight of fonts? i.e. boldness
Yes you can :)
Amazon are cracking down on books and changing the format to one that cannot be read or formatted to read on other devices.
Ah I see, well this news makes me more glad I have already moved my library over to Kobo 😊
Already ordered paperwhite on the prime day 🥲
Paperwhite is still an excellent device. I've had many of the different versions, including the latest ones. It was the Kindle Paperwhite that ignited my love of e-readers. Happy reading! Excited for you 💜
Also, if you buy an ebook through Kobo and you see it sold for less at another site, you can request a price match. It has worked for me in the past:)
Not usually into vlogs, and never write comments....Just had to say is a lovely idea, feels like we're book shopping with you. Great job, keep it going! 😊
Aw thank you, glad you enjoyed! 😁
Marvellous review, you have got me thinking….
I hope you meanwhile found the option to view your notes and highlights; you can swipe up on the screen whilst reading, then press the document icon in the bottom right to view them. Hope this helps somebody :)
Thanks for the tip!
How do you get books from local uk librairies?
Hello, you need to register with your local library first. Then, you can download the Libby app. You then enter your library card details, which will give you access to a massive library of ebooks. Then, you simply log into your Libby account on your Kobo.
I started Murakami with Dance, Dance, Dance followed by Norwegian Wood
i can use pdfs and e books on my kindle 👀 and its an old kindle. i got it in 2015😅
I never said kindle can't view pdfs and ebooks? My issue is how over complex it is to get a ebook on a kindle that you haven't purchased from amazon without it playing up in someway. My kobo has basically been drag and drop, which is what I want. Also, I hate using PDFs on any device in general aha they're too clunky
Welcome to the BookTube community! That’s quite a haul. Happy Reading 😎📚👍
Thank you!! 😊
Thanks so much for this review! It was helpful for me. I too long to see my eBook covers in color (it feels like the one last thing I still miss about the old physical book days). I currently have a Libra 2 and love it, but it is still a tad large for me to just throw into my purse. I'm probably going to wait until Boox comes out with a color 6" and am on the fence about waiting for the next version of color eink to come out (Kaleido 4) which will likely have better color quality. I won't do Kindle/Amazon anymore (my first ereader was a Keyboard 3 that I still have for emergency use) and am curious to experience Boox vs. Kobo. Anyway, I digress. Again, thanks for the info! It was very helpful to see someone elses experience! Much appreciated!
I just got the Libra Color loving it so far. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Kindle Scribe ?
The only thing I miss about working n central London is the easy access to the book shops. May I recommend Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles series, if you are unaware of them. The first in the series was published in 1976, so not the 00's glow up vampires.
you've sold me on getting a kobo!
aw I am glad! I am about to use mine right now as I type this reply, happy reading!
You can get any microsoft MPP 2.0 Pen and it will work with the Kobo Libra Colour (or Elipsa). I have the first gen Kobo pen but also have the Metapen M1 stylus and also my Microsoft Surface pen which also works. Nice to see someone else with the yellow case. I love it. 😊
Thanks for the info! My birthday is coming up next month so I am dropping major hints to my family about wanting a Stylus :D yesss, the yellow case. You ahve good taste!! I felt like, what better way to celebrate having colour screens than a vibrant colourful case.
Where is the table lamp from? Pretty cool.
Thank you. It’s from IKEA (I’m not sure where you’re based). It was quite cheap, and I believe they still have them. :)
Saved this video as reference. Interested in alternatives to kindle. Plus the option to put library ebooks on it is a huge draw. Cheers
What a neat idea, thanks! I read along with you while having my Saturday morning coffee. I’m reading Stephen King’s 11/22/63, which I think is really good so far.
Love this, I am a maaaahoooooosive Stephen King fan, glad you are enjoying your book :D
I'm a student nurse too! and I have the same Kobo and love it for all the same reasons :)
yay, hello fellow student nurse! I hope you are doing well, it is a tough journey..but worthwile. Just 3 weeks left for me now. All the best! x
The is good 👍 📕
thank you! :D
