    I don't remember who found him like that but I hope it was Frasier. He would have, justifiably, gone nuts.

    In a few minutes David Hyde Pierce (and Eddie), performed brilliant comedy, on the level of Chaplin and Keating.

    I don’t want to be “that guy,” but Niles went through medical school; he wouldn’t faint at the sight of blood.

  • @3henry214
    @3henry2146 ай бұрын

    Not that unusual for someone to not have the sight of other peoples blood affect them, and yet, still faint at the sight of their own blood ( because it's theirs and someone else). That would definitely play into Nile's character. I had a co-worker that was like that, he wasn't at all squeamish at the sight of blood, except when it was the sight of his young son in the ER treatment room, bloodied from a sports accident, that put him on the ER floor.

    I can't imagine the clean up in the studio of the set after the scene had finished and the audience had left. I'm betting the episode was all shot first and this scene was the last part of it shot. Then the audience left after that, and the clean up began.

    I just started re-watching Frasier and forgot just how darn funny it was, and so well-written. David Hyde Pierce is truly a gift; his timing and mannerisms make the show. The ensemble cast works so well together. This scene would be a classic in any era!

    I hold up this scene as a classic, even textbook, lesson in physical comedy. Not once does Niles need to speak, not once is so much as a caption laid out. His every thought is conveyed, his actions all in character, no wackiness is needed. This is, quite literally, a five and a half minute masterclass in physical comedy.

    I’m not really a fan of physical comedy - Jim Carrey, even Robin Williams, but….. David Hyde-Pierce…is just brilliant. I can think of so many scenes: the yoga class, the starting pistol, the sword fight, the egg time keeping scene with Elvis Costello and on and on. And that’s not even touching on his other brilliance…his comic timing and delivery,

    One of my favorite moments In this scene is when he's reading the lable of the laquor??? Turpentine??? I don't know my cleaning liquids, anyway just that he's reading it by candle light and the moment you can see as his eyes hit the word FLAMMABLE, the perfect movement and reaction, not a single word but you know exactly what happened, even if it's a bit obvious of a gag it's timed perfectly

    This was one of many episodes directed by Frasier himself, Kelsey Grammer, but this might be the finest segment he helmed in the series. I would imagine directing David Hyde Pierce in this scene for him was like putting one of his cherished friends into a fun kind of obstacle course.
