As an audio-repair bench tech, I used a similar AOYUE desoldering station for 5 years before retiring; I didn't care for the solder-capturing spring inside the collection chamber and substituted a wad of medium-grade steel wool instead. The spring is too difficult to clean out unless you grease it, which is smelly and messy. I suggest you also test the tip included with the soldering iron to see if it is strongly attracted to a magnet throughout the tip and at the back end, or if it is only magnetically attracted at the tip (like it's supposed to be). Thermal transfer is far superior if the tip is made of plated copper, with iron plating at the pointy business end only, to prevent the solder and flux from eating away at the copper ---- but a lot of Asian manufacturers are making the tips out of solid steel or iron which is a much poorer conductor of heat. You can easily determine whether the tips are good or bad, with a magnet; I posted a video on my channel about this recently.

If you are not getting the standby Light on its most likely a failed power supply, sometimes with switch mode supply's if you place your ear close the the TV and switch on the TV you can hear a ticking sound, if you hear this sound most definitely a failed power supply. Either way if the Power supply is faulty then a repair/service would be required.

That's a weird failure for a polyester film cap at relatively low voltage. As you say, MOSFETs normally fail short, so good catch! For the drivers to fail is odd though as they are normally killed by a shorted MOSFET, although they are extremely sensitive to a difference in the voltage between the input and drive side ground voltages.

Hi Wayne, Loved your vids, got me set up. However, I have an interesting problem... I am running WSJT-X with my IC-7700 connected to my iMac (2017) running macOS Ventura 13.6.7.
