    Thank you for this! I want to do similar set up like yours. Using DAW at the moment only but want to add hardware instruments. It would be great if you could do a video on how you actually record from start to finish... Take us through your recording process... For example when you record keyboard part is it going through mixer into DAW? And I don't really understand how the midi clock works... You have a lot of cables too! 🙏 Cheers brother!

    Not only could you record all your inputs via an audio interface, you have the option of recording to your DAW via this exact mixer. It’s pretty wild how flexible this thing is.

    @@nedogled one advantage I think of recording multitrack on device vs to a DAW, is I don’t think you can write any EQ/Compressor changes to the DAW, the way you can choose pre/post onboard. I’m in the same boat as you, the possibilities are pretty endless.

    Would love to see how you use the Model 12. I've got a Model 16 at the core of my setup. One question: are you integrating any sends from the mixer? If so, how are you setting them up?

  • @nedogled
    @nedogledКүн бұрын

    Hey, so I've done a whole video on how I use the Model 12 kzread.info/dash/bejne/mo1kxruKg5fao7w.html The workaround I use for sends is that I send some of the channels to the sub mix, which goes into my sampler (Roland SP-404 Mk2) so I can quickly record/sample anything I want, add effects and bring it back into the mixer. Hope that helps!

    Yep! I record everything to a multitrack recorder, but then I mix and master in a DAW. I suppose you could just record the stereo out and then send it to someone for mastering, or use a mastering tool like CloudBounce affiliate.cloudbounce.com/idevaffiliate/idevaffiliate.php?id=4338 In that case you can skip the DAW

    Just picked one up last week and I'm finding that it has all the right features for my creative workflow. MIDI sync is a key feature for me. I can sync all my gear in a MIDI loop, record myself jamming, go back and redo a track if needed, such as refining a performance on the TR-6S and then use the VAMP feature to find short loops that are worthy of keeping in a final mix. I'm just learning about the VAMP feature, but I would really like if I could jump between the vamp sections as opposed to letting the track continue until the next vamp (because the vamps are the "good" parts of the jam"). At first I had an problem with the board not having an actual FX loop, but now I'm seeing that using a channel for FX return allows you to record the effect return as a separate stereo track which is actually pretty useful. A typical FX return might not have the routing ability to record on the fly without ultimately sending it to a stereo channel. Also, I tend to think I need more tracks than I really do. 8 tracks for instruments and 2 for effects is actually enough for most songs I work on.

  • @nedogled
    @nedogled3 күн бұрын

    I haven't tried adding MIDI to my Model 12, but I bet it opens up a whole new world of possibilities! Indeed the VAMP feature is a great addition, plagued by a subpar interface IMO

    Great tutorial brother! Love your setup. Music seems to sound better going through circuits sometimes instead of strictly in the box. There’s an organic sound that tends to be pleasing to the ears. Have you considered any of the Akai MPC X, MPC Live, or MPC One as a drum machine? It’s also a capable sequencer with time shift, humanize, and other functions to slightly make the drums play behind, before, or right on the beat. It has a DAW type recorder along with sample and stem import and export. I use the MPC One and it controls and syncs with my hardware synths. It will definitely save you space! Peace and Blessings bro!

    Elo. Where u mentioned about not yet figuring out a way of sequencing your guitar, I can offer a suggestion. I recently got an RC 202. It’s ideal as it has MIDI in & out so you can sync your guitar loops perfectly. I have clock sent from Maschine via MIDI to a thru box, then from thru box to tr8s, 2 x boutiques (ju06a & sh01a) td3 and rc202. With the rc202 my bass or guitar can be perfectly synced to everything else. It would be a good option for you for sure. Also, if u put any effects after the RC202, you can manipulate the guitar loop live after laying the riff down (ideal for a filter or something) The rc505 is the beast mode version but I myself have only used the 202. I have it on my desktop aside everything else, and a fs6 foot switch to start and stop my bass recording. ;)
