My beloved late husband and I had this on our playlist; it was one of our favorites and always made us smile. I figure it's because we both escaped from the life described (addiction) and all the wreckage it causes.

Why is Six Feet Under on the thumbnail?!?!?!? This is a prong song, not Chris Barns, original vocalist of Cannibal Corpse.

I remember the first time I heard this. Climbing intensity. Mean ass riff. Intoxicating. The message, the vocals, the delivery. Love every second of it and the bass guitar just sends it over the mountain. Much thanks. Restores my faith…

1:18, for 27+ years I thought it was "Catch my picture", then changes to change my picture...? ... And people think it's change my pitch up? I can hear all of them in there at different points...

I was ten years old when I bought the single of this song in the summer of '77. I thought it was such a wonderful sounding song and I loved playing it over and over. But as an adult, I realize that for a fast and great sounding song, it's an utterly sad and hopeless kind of song. That boy who was lonely in the song was such because he'd been taught to be nobody's fool; that is, if you don't take risks, follow your heart, you don't have to worry about being anyone's fool, but you basically have guaranteed yourself loneliness. Now, as a 10 year old boy that I was, I didn't realize how I was basically whistling past the grave by enjoying the song!!! I was already in fear of things badly, had undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome, which only intensified my fears....I was already putting up walls toward people like my classmates out of fear of being rejected (trying to protect myself from being nobody's fool), so when a year later, when I really fell in love with a girl, I was off to the races of being that "lonely boy" throughout my adolescent/teen years trying to run away from any risk taking/following my heart, and the consequences were devastating...something that would take years to try to right the ship. I used to say, "Why God, did you not guide me then when I was so messed up and save me from myself?" But as I've gotten older, I can say this: God's messages were always there, especially if you look at late 70s pop music, so many great messages on life and dealing with it BUT BUT BUT...one has to be ready to hear the messages and act upon them. I wasn't. All I can do now is strive to, as I have been for many years, follow my heart and that means I have to risk being a "fool" sometimes in the world.

Melodically, this is a great song! Story-wise, this song is absolutely terrible. He was born. He was happy. His sister was born. He was sad. He grew up. His sister grew up, got married, had a boy, they were happy, her boy grew up, they were happy. If that came out as a book, no one would ever buy it.

I love this song but I don't know why he was so bummed out about having a sister. If you're an only child you don't have anyone to torment and bully. I accidentally misplaced my little sister on her first day of school, I'll never live it down.
