They are a separate body. You once had to be a Scottish Rite or a York Rite Mason. But this requirement was dropped in 2000.

Fellowcraft here Deposit NY #396. I was standing in front of this monument yesterday (June 30 2024 at 12:37pm) and can I say... What a sight to see! Unbelievable! Definitely a must see.
I am often conflicted by this man. Indeed, a serious credit to the Craft, he was a Confederate and his 'Indian policy' gave chilling reminders of another man, who should be banned from the Craft, John Shivington.
From what I have read, Albert Pike changed a lot of his views. He accepted black masonry, and let off the gas with some of the previous prejudice as he used to have. Reading, morals and dogma, it’s difficult to imagine someone who wrote that book that condemn prejudice, and condemn any sort of mistreatment of others for different views or how they areborn. It’s strange to find out his views during the Civil War were for the confederates to the point where he was a confederate general, and it’s also rumored that he started a group similar to the KKK. I’m not sure if this has been confirmed or not, or if it’s only speculator.
