We're Chris & Tina from the UK and we love travelling in our van and country. We're completely new to campervanning and enjoying every minute of it.

We're sharing our adventures and the tips, tricks, modifications, things we purchase and what we learn along the way.

    We have a Stokesay here in Reading PA USA that looks almost just like this. Our city of Reading is named for Reading in the UK and there is some sort of yearly meet up between the two cities each year. I can get more info if you would like. Our Stokesay Castle used to be a restaurant and I'd have to look into what it was originally. I am thinking maybe ours was based on the one there in the UK.

    The guys laying the pipe are part of the dredging operation that happens in the outer harbour prior to Easter every year. The sand that has washed into the harbour is sucked up and piped onto the beach.

    The "good old days" of WW-1? Are you serious? And if it weren't for this "whizz-bang wireless malarkey" you wouldn't be collecting your monetization payouts, now would ya? Your channel is fake because nobody in England actually talks the way you do in your description, in fact, it's a bit insulting. According to three different Brits in Discord ten seconds ago.

  • @vanandcountry

    Hi there, Thanks for commenting. For the record I'm not monetised and I did take a look back and the ref to good old days, I saw it as being more about the simplicity of the tech - obviously not WW1. What the video does do is shine a light on this regiment and in the medal hall I do recognise service and bravery. If you are still offended, I'm happy to change the description as to be insulting was absolutely not the intention. On this video there has been many people comment about their experiences and relatives' experiences. This really is a great museum capturing the history of the regiment. Genuinely, thank you for your comment.

    04:35 It's pink because one day in North Africa during WWII the SAS stumbled accross a crashed american bomber in the desert that had been burnished pink by the desert sandy winds. They literally stumbled accross it because the colour camouflaged it. Other colours tend to appear as a darker blob in the distance. It also avoided blue on blue casualties ;)

    Nice into. Very straightforward. I think the parking up shots were a bit long on each one and maybe an external shot once parked would have finished that little part of the story. Nicely filmed and I think people who are going to use that site will love it. Maybe you could have added value to your walk round with 4-5 seconds of a map just to orient folks. Nothing at all wrong with your filming but mix it up with B roll. People’s interest quickly slips away. B roll will keep their attention. I suppose what I’m saying is keep shots short 4-5 second (obviously not if action is going on ) to keep people interest. Nice walk round the site but more B roll. For example you walked quite a long way down the site road talking good stuff but maybe B roll of a crow in the tree or swap the camera round to show your face or a sign about tents and no dog walking. Little things like that would keep the attention going. When you were talking about the shower buttons you could have shown a push button ( doesn’t need to be the exact one) from a couple of angles. By the way David Akerman makes a gadget to over come the button issue. Just don’t tell the wardens. I saw you did a bit of B roll with a vending machine. A bit of speak with that would have been good but you said nothing. A revisit to the Landry room would have been good. I know why you didn’t go in as somebody was there. But as a viewer it left me wanting to know about it. Not because I love laundry rooms but because you told me you were going to show it to me. If that wasn’t possible I would have cut out the aborted attempt then as a viewer I wouldn’t be waiting to see it. Agree with you about tarmac roads by the way. Nice video Chris. Please don’t take my comments to be anything other than helpful to you. 🧙‍♂️👍🚐

  • @Wizardinthewild
    @Wizardinthewild3 ай бұрын

    Nicely filmed and great narration. I did feel a little disconnected with what you were showing on screen with what you were talking about. I suspect you had it scripted ( if I’m wrong you memory is amazing) and you delivered the speak beautifully. But I felt that I either wanted to listen to you or watch the video. They seemed to go down separate roads. By the way I was watching on my phone not TV so it was even more difficult and not your fault. I would have tried to make my B roll absolutely to fit in with my speech. In your case the quality of filming and panning was excellent but I definitely thought why am I looking at that but Chris is discussing something else. For example you are discussing Tolkien and the effect the war had on him but all my visual is about a land rover and control boxes. Yes I know Tolkien was in that Regiment but the odd bit of B roll showing him rather than the land Rover would have been better. I’m not saying this to be troll more as you asked and this is my opinion. It was much better when you showed the medals and talked about that. I loved the 2709 story but while you were talking about that you could have showed pictures relevant to 2709. I was much more zeroed in when you were talking about the pink panther because that is what you were showing. It engaged me rather than conflicted me. Hope this is helping Chris. If you want me to stop no problem. Whatever I said though it’s made me want to visit the museum 👏🧙‍♂️🚐

    Nice to tell people what you are doing and I appreciate you don’t want it to take long. But…. And you wanted critique… that was an awful lot of info. In my opinion too much info even though each bit of info was good stuff I doubt most people will be able to take that in that quick. I’m sure somebody will disagree and I tip my hat to them. But I would need to watch that at least twice. In fact I watched it 3 times. Great idea though. We’ve dabbled with doing promo/info vids and they seem to have little impact. You’ve got a great voice but maybe a little slower. Just my thoughts. G 🧙‍♂️🚐👍

    Pigeon 2709 was probably very tasty. My dad was in the Royal Signals in WW2 - his unit worked on the Manchester ship canal on attempts to disguise it from German bombers, did the same sort of thing at what is now West Midlands Airport. In 1943 he was sent to I think India first not sure of his movements until VE Day when he was at a Fleet Air Arm base in Ceylon (Sri Lanka now). Everyone was called out to the parade ground and given the news that the war in Europe was over, they could have an extra bottle of beer but the Royal Marine guard on the magazine had to be doubled. He joined up in 1939 when war was declared but didn't get demobbed until 1947. William George Wilson OBE 1921-2014 RIP.

My main point is that we're going to green pastures for the first time in May so I don't know if it's just coincidence or part of the algorithm! I noticed that you said there were 4 hardstanding pitches but looking on Google maps there appears to be 2 on the approach to the 4 other pitches. We've been a few times to the CLs further up the road into silver street. One is homefield and the other just a few doors along is eden gate. They're both well worth a stay, particularly eden gate.
