This is the most profoundly sad sketch I've ever seen

Brilliant - The “Oh dear. Looks like a two pipe problem” Is wonderful. Larkin’s poem “The Old Fools” is another moving discourse on the tragedy of old age and dementia.

The last time I saw my grandma before she died of dementia she asked for my daughter, which, in some sense, meant she remembered me. I am the first member of the family she completely forgot about. My daughter was 2 when it happened but she forgot about me 2 years before my daughter was born, so she was aware of the new member but not me. But that last day, she asked for my daughter and flinched her nose like she used to when I was a child. 2 days later she was gone.

About halfway through this piece I thought, "No one could make a comedy sketch like this nowadays, making fun of people suffering from dementia." And then the ending came. I'm still crying. Mitchell and Webb were brilliant. 💔

I have to say I never quite got their comedy. Probably more me than anything else but this is just one of the best things on KZread! Just a work of genius. Amazing performances from both of them and the other actors involved too. Comedy and tragedy!

That camera must be "upside down" in relation to the Earth if they intend on crashing into the sun. The spacecraft needs to be heading clockwise to hit the sun, not counterclockwise. So they must be filming upside down in relation to how the people aboard are standing.

For anyone who has ever had a relative with dementia - that foul and horrible condition that steals away your loved ones - the moment that he says: "I know John. I just can't get the fog to clear" is just heartbreaking.

Okay am I going as insane as holmes or is there another version of this skit where he instead says "I just can't get the fog to clear" with the stress on "just" and "clear" and in a slightly more indignant tone?

I looked after my Mother with Dementia for the last three years of her life, it is a 24/7 job with no relief of high level stress to see in front of your eye's some one you love just fade away with all reality is the worst because you are absolutely helpless to do anything about it.

Just rewatched all of these series and this moment still makes me well up. So unbelievably well written, paced, and acted. The abruptness of the mood change from silliness and levity to gut-wrenching heartbreak is so powerful. It's that moment when we realise that Holmes is not, in fact, living in a blissful ignorance of his dementia but rather is a prisoner of his own mind. Watson searching for words but failing to find them is masterfully acted, you can see a million thoughts and feelings running through his head and ultimate powerlessness to help his mentor and friend.
