  Not being a mountain climber, I am unable to see why he is stupid. He is on a mountain and climbing it, therefore he is succeeding in being a mountain climber. Any mountain climbers care to explain why he is stupid?

  Well that's an ignorant comment. Try it sometimes, before jumping on the hate train? With proper equipment and skill set, it's a very challenging and fullfilling activity. But what would you know about it...

  @@dominikfly1 It was meant as a joke. I guess you didn't get it. "Because it's there" is often cited as the reason why people climb mountains, which on the surface seems like a rather frivolous reason. Instead, I'm sure summiting a peak is incredibly rewarding, considering the skills, planning and effort involved. I actually greatly admire mountain climbers. My brother is a skilled rock climber and I accompanied him once, so I do have some appreciation for the advanced skills required. I've repelled on numerous occasions, and it is a lot of fun.

  It's firn/granular ice, i.e. very hard. Even with proper boots, it is very hard to kick in steps. This is what crampons and/or ice axes are for.

  Their technique clearly demonstrates this is someone climbing the glacier rather than a Mountain Climber... bending over and leaning into the ice - out of fear - takes the weight off of your crampons. Terrible technique - a recipe for disaster.

  Ja, ich finde auch, dass da schon genug "blutige" Anfänger sind. Manche haben wirklich den Berg vollgeblutet, andere sind wieder den Gletscher zurückgelaufen. So kurz vorm Ziel. Mein Tourleiter hat gemeint, es war noch nie so voll wie an dem Tag. Und er hat diese Strecke schon sehr oft gemacht.
