I am currently Solo Baritone at Festival Brass Band, former Solo Baritone with Brassband Willebroek (BE) and Brassband Schoonhoven (NL). In demand as a guest player with leading fanfare and brass bands in Europe and a couple of years ago I was invited by Katrina Marzella to play with the world's most famous brass band Black Dyke Band.
I play the Sterling Virtuoso Baritone and Randefalk R4B Gold mouthpiece.
Keen to promote the baritone horn as a solo instrument within the brass band world but also to seek wider recognition for it as an ensemble instrument. Since the coronavirus (2020) doesn't allow us to play at band, I would like to keep performing through this channel.
The baritone horn is not a euphonium..and depending on the country, a baritone is not a baritone. What they call baritone in Japan and the U.K. is called tenor horn in German-speaking countries. And, what we call a euphonium is quite like what they call a baritone in Germany (ref. Yamaha trivia).

Hi, thanks for your message and well done on choosing the baritone! 👍 In brass and fanfare band the baritone parts are normally written in treble clef as well as solo pieces. But I do read base clef and any transpositions if required f.e. from horn or trombone parts.

In the US, it seems that "serious" music students are always steered from baritone to euphonium once they are big enough. But Leen makes a really good case for baritone. How does she get such a full rich sound while sitting cross-legged on the floor? As a 68 year old with the usual arthritic joints for my age, I'm in awe. What a stupendous duet, it blends magnificently.
My experience is that "serious" music students are steered away from both instruments in favor of the trombone or tuba on the theory that it is hard to make a living as a professional baritonist/euphonist. I play baritone, so the only reason why they let me into community orchestras is because I also play cello.
@@johnries5593 An apt observation. There are a bunch of standard jokes (of which I remember neither the set-ups nor the punch lines) about euphers and baritonists and they all have to do with the inability of both to make a living playing their instruments. In the US at least, perhaps what school band directors do is a kindness. There is a very finite number of college/university jobs for euphonium/baritone professors. And yes, playing cello does open more doors. Anyhow, Ms. Vandenhende's playing is spectacular and we can agree on that.
I'm a euph/bari player and have never understood the lack of solos for the bari ....well certainly compared to the euph , i just steal them off the euphs like this one .

Never give up! The Baritone Horn is not a very rewarding instrument. But if you get on and try to find your unique voice, it will pay off - in solo’s and ensemble. Try to listen to the obvious examples (Katrina Marzella, Mike Cavanagh, Bob Blackburn, Margie Sutherland, Sarah Lenton, Ashley Dixon, Susan Elizabeth Thomas… Nick Vermeiren and David Thornton (euph players who happen to be good baritone players as well) and record your own playing. This will help to become a star 🤩💪

Beautiful music and what a wonderful sound. Could you tell me the model and size of the mouthpiece of your instrument? I'm a sax horn student and when I watch your video it seems that the mouthpiece I use is smaller.
Hello, thanks for your message 🙏 I play the Randefalk 4 baritone mouthpiece. For me it’s the best fit with my instrument. I tried almost all existing baritone mouthpieces and keep on testing new models and brands, but the RF baritone 4 is still the best for me. Good luck in finding the right mouthpiece for you 👍

The sounds of the two instruments are very similar.
@@johnries5593 Well, they can be. The baritone can overblow into a more brassy sound like a trombone easier, or into a pluckier sound for offbeats and other inner voice work a bit easier than the Euph. A great player can play on both sides of that spectrum

Dag Paul, ik heb hier helaas geen bewerking van (had er mss beter toch een gemaakt, want krijg vaak de vraag 😅). Het is gewoon ingespeeld vanop de score van de baritone solo die je via PLC Music kan kopen en dan een toon hoger is getransponeerd. Succes 👍
