  So the term archangel when preceded by the definite article refers only to Christ; however, when it is not ,as we shall see, it refers to the leaders of the angelic host which is organized in ranks as described in the SOP. Lucifer was one of those leaders and the word archangel is used to describe that here, "He bent all his powers to allure the angels from their allegiance. The fact that he was an archangel, glorious and powerful, enabled him to exert a mighty influence." {ST, September 14, 1882 par. 9} Notice the indefinite article which indicates there were others; that fact is evidenced by the following: Angels and archangels wonder at this great plan of redemption; they admire and love the Father and the Son as they behold the mercy and love of God. {SD 295.5} Angels and archangels are looking upon God's chosen ones with the most earnest interest to see what influence the truth is having upon mind and character, to see how much they appreciate the One who was crucified for them, that they might have eternal life.{1888 1036.2} Christ was crucified, but in wondrous power and glory he rose from the tomb. He took in his grasp the world over which Satan claimed to preside, and restored the human race to favor with God. And at this glorious completion of his work, songs of triumph echoed and re-echoed through the unfallen worlds. Angel and archangel, cherubim and seraphim, joined in the chorus of victory. {YI, April 16, 1903 par. 8}

  Though the emphasis is on the importance of Bible study there were times when direct revelations had to be given and this happened: I met with them, and we studied and prayed earnestly, for we felt that we must learn God's truth. Often we remained together until late at night, and sometimes through the entire night, praying for light, and studying the Word. As we fasted and prayed, great power came upon us. But I could not understand the reasoning of the brethren. My mind was locked, as it were, and I could not comprehend what we were studying. Then the Spirit of God would come upon me, I would be taken off in vision, and a clear explanation of the passages we had been studying would be given me, with instruction as to the position we were to take regarding truth and duty.

  I'm not sure if it should be called a "faith shaking event". Imagine knocking on a door, hearing the dogs bark, seeing the doorknob turn after which a huge dog emerged followed by a panicking owner. I didn't get bite, but I don't appreciate the size of those creatures.
