    Thanks for the comment! I find that when recording content for a podcast episode, which I want people to be able to consume in their car with audio only, recording on video results in lots of gestures, visuals, and other things that we take for granted but that the listening audience can't enjoy-especially with topics that I'm so used to teaching by demonstrating. Having the audio-only constraint while recording really helps make the audio podcast version more enjoyable. In the future, when I come back to producing long-form video content specific to KZread, I'll keep going on this topic! It's a big one!! :)

    First of all, thank you for this validation. I’m 53, returned to ballet a year ago after taking studying for 6 years in HS and college. …I was in class today and found that I had absolutely no balance! I was leaning to one side even while I was standing on 2 feet. 😳 I felt completely frustrated with my body. (Granted, I’ve been sick for months… so today was a day to be gentle with myself and be proud that I even made the effort to go to class!) SECONDLY… THANK YOU for making reference to ages 50s, 60s, plus. Most people who talk about “ballet for adults” are in truth, referring to 24-year-olds. A 40, 50, or 60-year-old has a completely different situation than a young person who has is trying to get back into ballet after six years because they aged out of their traditional childhood ballet school and stopped dancing for a while. How about some of us who are getting back into ballet after 30 years??? Our bodies can’t do what they used to do. For example, I can’t do fifth position anymore… I have to use third position because I have arthritis in my hips. But you know what? I can do an awful lot of things that I didn’t think I could! In a class of 30 students today, I did the best pirouettes of anyone! Including the 24-year-olds! Who knew? We all returned to Ballet with our individual bodies’ physical needs, emotional needs, injuries, health issues, and also- strengths. Maybe you’ve been doing yoga and Pilates f for most of your adult life. Does that 24-year-have the body strengths you have after training all those tears? Maybe not. Maybe you have a core like nobody’s business! Let us celebrate each time we learn something new…. and have compassion and a sense of humor for those things we’re still working on. ❤ Love y’all! Thank you Julie!

    I spent months looking for ballet clothing for my 48 year old body. I went to 5 local ballet shops and found size up to L which was a small in anything else. Thin straps, low back etc. Online was either stick thin professionals or Amazon cookie cutter. It really made me feel like I was either all alone or should give up and give in. Thanks for this

  • @BrocheBallet
    @BrocheBalletАй бұрын

    Since you mentioned in your other comment about your knee injury, definitely be careful to aim for airtime since the landing will be harsh on your knee! For now, less airtime is better :) If you do heal and return to it, I hope the tips in here about strengthening your core, back, hips, calves, and toes (as well as timing/coordination) will give you some higher level concept of what it entails to get off the floor.

    I have arthritis in my right knee and I’m meniscus tear. I have osteoarthritis in my right knee and there’s really nothing that I can do about it except I can either have surgery in terms of jumping on my right leg. I can’t. It’s just the right leg just feels weird. Just set up a portion of my body towards the end of class everyone’s jumping and I just I would love to jump, but I just can’t and I, kind of have a lot of strength Ballet every day at home in between classes, but jumping is just something I wish I could do I really do but I just don’t think I can. I feel frustrated.

  • @BrocheBallet
    @BrocheBalletАй бұрын

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm so sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with your knee. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, especially when you have a passion for ballet. It's definitely important to prioritize your health and listen to your body. While jumping might not be feasible right now, there are still many ways to enjoy ballet and strengthen your body. Consulting with a physical therapist who understands dance can also provide you with tailored exercises to support your knee and help you stay active in ballet. In the meantime, if you haven't already, check out the first several facets on my podcast for more to sink your teeth into. Remember, ballet is not just about jumping. Your dedication and love for the art shine through in everything you do, and there are always ways to continue growing as a dancer within your limits!

    Hello, I really like your channel. I’ve been taking adult ballet classes at seven years. I really love ballet. I’m currently taking a workshop at the National Ballet Of Canada in Toronto on Sunday mornings. I love it. It’s an absolute beginner ballet. The only one of the things I’m really struggling with the strength and terms of my knee. I have osteoarthritis in my knee and meniscus tear so when it comes to jumping towards the end of the class, I can’t do it and I I feel kind of discouraged because I would love to jump and I see everyone else jumping and I can’t because I don’t. I can’t bend my knee that way I can’t. I don’t have enough power you know I don’t have enough strength so I feel kind of discouraged I guess but ballet makes other than that. Ballet makes me feel good. Helps me relax I love that. We have a pianist that our class and it’s just such a nice positive vibe, but I also have to be realistic and respect my body and know that there are certain things that I will never be able to to do and and that’s OK🩰

    PLEASE INTERVIEW MORE older people 40s, 50s, and 60s + who have re-started ballet! The questions I’m interested are: what was it like in their body to begin again? How did they acclimate to the movements of ballet at an older age? Did they have trouble with anything in particular? How did they overcome it? And what has dancing done for them now, emotionally and physically? (I’ve only seen you do this one time on one video:… as interesting as her life stories was, it’s hard to find time to listen to all of that. Hearing about their Ballet journey is more important!) Thank you, Julie!

    I started ballet this year and my toes are so weak(?) out of my control(?) right now--it is crazy! I hope this gets better with time like you say in the video, haha, my brain is working 110% trying to coordinate my toes, and there's so many gaps and twitches right now. I don't really have the body awareness to feel confident in this yet. But the way you explained this in this video is helpful. Thank you.
