Is there any way to watch the beach volleyball matches of the Olympics? For example, on KZread or on another site?
Had to come back to this for a refresher while watching the Cuba game, cuz, dang! Alayo and Diaz definitely came to play today. Wish you were on the broadcasts to keep us all in the know as we go.😁
They balled out. Alayo went to a different level and Miles and Andy were just kinda there. Wish I was out there too BUT that just means I can make a bunch of stuff back home :)
Aubrey Coleman stepped on Chase’s face when he played at Arizona a long time ago. Sports pundits tried to say he didn’t see him when he was on the floor. That dude deserved an a$$ whooping. That still pisses me off. It was definitely racial. Glad to see him playing volleyball!
Gold medal 100 percent for tkn
I like your confidence
Beautifully shot; and what raw access to the outward and inward travails of competing and chasing after your dreams. Well done!
Stoked to see what the full episodes look like 😍
Super love that you brought in some indoor volleyball to your podcast with the olympics coming up. Most of us who love beach also love indoor, so this is great.
Stoked you enjoyed! We'll keep it coming!
Silver medal for LLLL? You just made many a Germans' year! 🎉😅
hahahaha too funny with that simulation
This is one of my fav episodes in a long time - Brian is hilarious, so knowledgeable and likable. So fun to listen to!
Brian is so dang funny haha
Awesome interview! So fun to get to know Miles and Chase :) I've known about them both for a while but never had much exposure to their personalities, and they both seem like genuinely cool and kind dudes. Thanks!
They're awesome, should be fun to watch them in Paris!!
Let's go, USA! And Mel/Brandie, Stam/Schoon, AP/Duda, Gottardi/Menegatti, Louisa/Laura, Esme/Zoe, and Nina/Tanja haha so many lovable teams :)
hahaha I love all of those teams as well. So many fun ones to root for
Any parlay suggestions?

@@SANDCASTPodcastTravis is the man!!! Let's geaux do this parlay sheyt!!! I got faith!
I have loved watching all of these Olympic Preview episodes with Brian and Matt. Super excited for the Olympics starting this week, starting it off with Andy and Miles early Saturday morning vs Cuba
It's been awesome having them!
Surprised about the sizeable gaps in those betting odds. The women's side of Paris seems particularly wide open, with 8 teams (by my count) in contention not just to medal, but to win gold. It's going to be a fun event!
Sure will be!
TKN getting GOLD! Excited to watch this one!
That's our pick as well!
Not to sound unsympathetic, but there is a positive to an American team going through this struggle and making it public, because they have the stage, the media, the fan base to draw attention to their situation. When athletes from less affluent countries (with no AVP to fall back on) experience the same, nobody gives a damn.
Someone has to tell the first story. Just because other stories haven't been documented yet doesn't mean Americans' stories should not be.
@@joshuabrittain5919 I don't recall ever saying that this team's story should not be told. You might want to read my comment a second time.
@@SadDetonator Okay good. If you agree that this story should be told, then: 1. What does telling this story have to do with people not caring about others' stories? I agree they have less resources to draw attention to their work. 2. I disagree that no one would care. At the very least, the citizens of those other countries are going to care A LOT. And I'd even argue that a lot of American beach volleyball fans would "give a damn" about those stories too.
Always a positive in any situation
@@joshuabrittain5919 And yet, I encourage you to refer me to similarly revealing stories you have taken note of from beach volleyball players outside of the US. I have had the opportunity to discuss this with some of them, like the Hoyer brothers from Denmark a decade back, and their struggles usually went undocumented. As for Americans caring whether athletes from Greece, Slovakia or Kazakhstan struggle or succeed, I'll believe it when I see it. The fact that you task "the citizens of those other countries" with caring highlights the issue. Real empathy is not limited to common nationality. All athletes experience the same emotions.
Pool play should be expanded and elevated in importance, accompanied by more sponsorship, more advertising and other forms of subsidization, all to make competing financially worthwhile for the people who actually do it. Beach volleyball is still a sport where many athletes are forced to cut their careers short because they must earn a living through regular jobs.
Would just love to see it go to double-elim
@@SANDCASTPodcast That would result in minimal exposure for fringe teams who are trying to make it on the World Tour. Unless they are backed by a NF of considerable means or by their country's military (as is often the case internationally), their chances of establishing themselves are very low if they arrive on one day and depart on the next.
Yea looks like the tayors are being real with themselves and saying they can be more successful at home and not spend a lot of money of the olympic process.
Pretty much
Japan will be in the podium this year alongside with Italy and Poland, my fearless forecast
I love a good Fearless Forecast
And current day NBA players making $20 mill Bit*h and moan flying from Miami to LA!!! ... and take multiple PAID days off. I was knocked out flying from LA to Tbilisi for days. Much respect to Chase/Miles ... and Tri will be back strong - MBO. Chama
haha appreciate ya! Should be fun to watch Chase and Miles!
very cool
We're fired up on it
How are we supposed to wait until 2025 😅😅
hahaha we'll keep dropping some nuggets for ya ;)
I am a fan of your content, but this is by far your both serious and important - excellent work I can't wait to see the rest. Takes a lot of courage for Tri to come off like this. This is an amazing new bar for you guys, Stay this good, stay this real.Stay this deep.
Thank you! All the other content helped pave the way for this one. Stoked to see what the full length episodes look like!
Very excited for this high production docuseries on my favorite sport. Finally we have a Hard Knocks for Professional Beach Volleyball! 🏐👋🏻
Exactly!!
Bingooooooo
well this is pretty cool
Yeahhhhhhh budddyyyyy
Wow! So cool.
Just wait for the full episodes!
We’re fired up for this project!!
mmmmmhmmmm
Interesting and yeah man tough to swallow I’m sure. I’ll definitely watch this docuseries
Can't wait for the full episodes to drop
Really, really cool. These stories need to be told. The grind is real, the work ethic and isolation of following your dreams as a professional athlete and beach volleyball player is a life like none other. Thanks for sharing, Tri, and looking forward to the release and seeing the media collaboration knock it out of the park! 👏🏼
Thank you! We've got a whole lot more coming down the pipe!
So hyped for this. Always good to see the BTS
Just wait till the full episodes. So much cool stuff coming

The volleyball version of Hard Knocks! I'm here for this. Like Kent has said, to most people this is a lifestyle sport. I hope this shows everyone outside of the volleyball/beach volleyball communities just how much of a grind it really can be and the physical and mental toll it takes on players and those around them. It'll be tough to look back, but it will only help move forward. And to see it from other teams perspectives? Outstanding. From new partnerships, the Swedes and the Volley vikings coming back from injuries, from highs and lows and everything in-between... looking forward to this. 🤙 Also hope to see some of these players in Hamburg next month...
We'll be covering all of that! Are you going to be in Hamburg??
@@SANDCASTPodcast Yes, I found a window of opportunity and have tickets for the qualifiers on the 21 & 22! I was hoping for new branded Sandcast merch to wear to represent. Esp if Trav is calling a game! Usually you're calling them solo until the quarters?
@@cinemasianx I'll be there!!
I’m so excited for this! So few sports exploits a players sports psyche and vulnerability more than beach volleyball. There is so much you have to give up and put yourself through for literally little to no gain, and yet the dreams in this sport are bigger than ever. I hope the docuseries is a monumental testament of the impact of sports psychology through beach volleyball.
That's the idea! Were really excited for this docuseries to drop. Its gonna be something that the fans of our sport have never seen... We're gonna need everyones help spreading the word about it! :)
We're stoked on it as well! Appreciate your support!!
Hoping a medal comes their way. They seem to be hitting their peak
Would be awesome to see it. Have a tough pool to get out of first. Gonna be fun to watch
Wow...I wasn't ready for this. The emotional journey has to be hard and to see it from your point of view will be amazing and yet humbling at the same time. Thank you for showing such a vulnerable side of yourself Tri
Thanks! Yeah its definitely hard but the beauty of going through challenges is that you get to help others by sharing your story and lessons learned... if your willing to be vulnerable.
Just wait till the full episodes are dropping!!
@@SANDCASTPodcast oh trust me being someone who struggles with some mental insecurities it helps when others make it seem much more "normal" so that it is easier to talk about.
@@TriBourne-w1q You wear vulnerability well.
So exciting ❤
100% us too
You'll be the first to watch the full episodes!
love the idea of adding sports psychology to the equation. If i fail to side out a couple times in a row i spiral and my self talk immediately goes to just the worst self hate.
When everyone can hit a high line and sharp angle, the difference at that level is mostly mental
Budinger super smart player but get up on the block dunk master!!
haha he's the man
I know it’s not the same by any means but New York State used to divide into regions and held Empire State Games. Essentially a statewide Olympics. hosted at different universities, I qualified three times and it had an Opening Ceremonies March in and all the Olympic Sports. We made it a point to hang out with the boxers from our region as much as possible and went to all their matches. It was AWESOME pulling for fighters we got to know
That's actually freakin' awesome haha I love that
So cool to hear Chase is friends with some of the USA Basketball guys. How cool to be able to hang with familiar faces in the Olympic Village. Also Tri huge respect towards your character being happy for these guys while admitting to a little jealously. Understandably!
It's been awesome watching the amount of love given to Chase from all the basketball community. Should be a great time for him in Paris!
The world is a much bigger place than Americans typically give it credit for. I doubt many beach volleyball fans in Brazil, Thailand or Austria are as in awe of Budinger and Evans to deserve the label of "shock".
Argument: The interview dives into how Chase and Evans persevered the world tour grind competing in over ten Challenges all over the globe and discusses how they punched their tickets and well earned their berth into the Games. In a sense, it's a Cinderella story. If world tour players were polled 2-3 years ago it's highly unlikely they would guess these two teams would represent the USA and hence the shock. I thought the interview was a good listen.
This guy gets it
The "shock" part of it doesn't have anything to do with any regionality. If anybody other than Norway or Boermans de Groot beat Sweden before the medal rounds, that would similarly be a shock. It's about the odds of something happening. They had the lowest (perceived) odds of qualifying of any American team, and it was quite a shock to many that they pulled it off
Don't mind me. That word just triggered me. It is tossed around too carelessly too often. Let's move on.
why would i be detail oriented about my career if someone else would do it for me? idk maybe be a professional.
What's the context to that?haha
Chase sounds like a great leader when you hear from him and his input. Great interview!
Also yes 100% they ran a system that was just stronger than the other teams. I felt like that kicked in and you could see immediate success. The other teams didn't have the time to switch it up (even though they tried).
Chase is freakin' awesome man. So sharp, good leader, exceptional athlete. Good human
Great interview Tri and Travis. I was at an AVP tournament at Newport Rhode Island September 1995. Chris Marlowe and Paul Sunderland got out of a stretch limo and climbed up the TV tower to call the match. Someday that’s going to be YOU guys! Go USA 🇺🇸
Someday, good friend! Someday :)
Because of the nature of BV athlete, it’s required that you have a supportive partner in your team leader and Chase, coming from a big boy sport, lacks the cuddle volleyball players require. Therefore this story is misleading and incomplete without strong mention of their coach Dan that closed the gaps that required for the relationship to work.
We love Dan
58:54 Travis "Do you think you guys are underdogs heading into Paris?" very interesting to hear their point of views

Still crazy how important that one random NORCECA was. Is there anywhere I can find it on YT? Hyped for Chase and Miles, Love a good underdog story. Let's keep it rolling boys!
