    Aubrey Coleman stepped on Chase’s face when he played at Arizona a long time ago. Sports pundits tried to say he didn’t see him when he was on the floor. That dude deserved an a$$ whooping. That still pisses me off. It was definitely racial. Glad to see him playing volleyball!

    Not to sound unsympathetic, but there is a positive to an American team going through this struggle and making it public, because they have the stage, the media, the fan base to draw attention to their situation. When athletes from less affluent countries (with no AVP to fall back on) experience the same, nobody gives a damn.

  • @joshuabrittain5919

    @@SadDetonator Okay good. If you agree that this story should be told, then: 1. What does telling this story have to do with people not caring about others' stories? I agree they have less resources to draw attention to their work. 2. I disagree that no one would care. At the very least, the citizens of those other countries are going to care A LOT. And I'd even argue that a lot of American beach volleyball fans would "give a damn" about those stories too.

    @@joshuabrittain5919 And yet, I encourage you to refer me to similarly revealing stories you have taken note of from beach volleyball players outside of the US. I have had the opportunity to discuss this with some of them, like the Hoyer brothers from Denmark a decade back, and their struggles usually went undocumented. As for Americans caring whether athletes from Greece, Slovakia or Kazakhstan struggle or succeed, I'll believe it when I see it. The fact that you task "the citizens of those other countries" with caring highlights the issue. Real empathy is not limited to common nationality. All athletes experience the same emotions.

  • @SadDetonator

    Pool play should be expanded and elevated in importance, accompanied by more sponsorship, more advertising and other forms of subsidization, all to make competing financially worthwhile for the people who actually do it. Beach volleyball is still a sport where many athletes are forced to cut their careers short because they must earn a living through regular jobs.

    The volleyball version of Hard Knocks! I'm here for this. Like Kent has said, to most people this is a lifestyle sport. I hope this shows everyone outside of the volleyball/beach volleyball communities just how much of a grind it really can be and the physical and mental toll it takes on players and those around them. It'll be tough to look back, but it will only help move forward. And to see it from other teams perspectives? Outstanding. From new partnerships, the Swedes and the Volley vikings coming back from injuries, from highs and lows and everything in-between... looking forward to this. 🤙 Also hope to see some of these players in Hamburg next month...

    The world is a much bigger place than Americans typically give it credit for. I doubt many beach volleyball fans in Brazil, Thailand or Austria are as in awe of Budinger and Evans to deserve the label of "shock".

  • @EricCamBeachVolleyball
    @EricCamBeachVolleyball3 күн бұрын

    Argument: The interview dives into how Chase and Evans persevered the world tour grind competing in over ten Challenges all over the globe and discusses how they punched their tickets and well earned their berth into the Games. In a sense, it's a Cinderella story. If world tour players were polled 2-3 years ago it's highly unlikely they would guess these two teams would represent the USA and hence the shock. I thought the interview was a good listen.

    The "shock" part of it doesn't have anything to do with any regionality. If anybody other than Norway or Boermans de Groot beat Sweden before the medal rounds, that would similarly be a shock. It's about the odds of something happening. They had the lowest (perceived) odds of qualifying of any American team, and it was quite a shock to many that they pulled it off
