I liked this album FAR more than "Dark Side...". In some ways, it seemed like the last true Pink Floyd album and had more good songs on it than any two other Floyd albums combined. Wright's sad, wistful voice is wonderful on his songs here. Capitol/EMI dropped the ball on not releasing more singles from it. there should have been at least THREE.

Animals as a 'concept' album was prelude to The Wall. The Wall seemed overdone. Animals, on the other hand, was a cumulation of everything prior and pivotal of what was to come. Perfect storm. My favorite by far.

Thank you for that! I haven't listened to the album since the early 90s, but always really liked it. This is a great walk through what was going on in the band <3 Oh, the reason they didn't license Love To Love You was that it wouldn't be written for another three years ;-)

This was my first Floyd album, bought for £1.99 when it came out, on the basis of an NME or MM review. When I saw the Australian Pink Floyd Show in Toulouse in February, they performed a very heavy, loud version of the title track and it worked very well.

Nice job, Rael. I've always liked this album and am glad to see it's gotten more attention in recent years. I consider it a proving ground and opportunity for PF to experiment with technology and musical styles that would bear full fruit on DSotM. But oo-la-la did the French love the Floyd back then! There's great film from around this time of Gilmour and Waters slurping down oysters in some studio -- either while working on this or something else -- as if they knew they were robbing all of these French directors and sycophants blind and were going to enjoy every minute of it.

~~ they were opening with Obscured on tour in the U.S. when DSOTM was released in March of 1973 - and it sounded even better live - even though most of the recordings of those tour dates were not exactly top quality - still, it seems it took them a year or so - mid to late 1974 - before the disillusionment of massive success started to poison the process - much can be blamed on Roger's ever-expanding ego at the time - and when you listen to the demo for "Money" - it's just Roger on acoustic guitar playing the main riff and singing the great lyrics - but it took the rest of them to expand & transform that simple demo into a classic rock track with plenty of sonic bombast - great keyboards & searing guitar leads - same is true for practically every song Roger wrote throughout the 70's ..
