    Had one of these great ol yams not long after the came out sounds a bit like thecam chain is too long to me your owners manual should tell u the correct no of pins or links how many kilometre has the bike got on it

    Thanks for the comment. I've been told they were awesome bikes back in their day. Still great today! You're pretty close. The issue ended up being the front cam chain guide not being seated correctly. All sorted!

    I’m 18, just bought my first bike, 1982 xj650 maxim. I get my motorcycle endorsement next month, im gonna tear it apart and rebuild it piece by piece for peace of mind. These videos are already helping sooooo much, the xj community is very helpful but it’s just different watching someone else go through the process.

    Thats great to hear! It's been a journey of learning for me, but really satisfying. Make sure you pick up a workshop manual for all of the various specs etc. My other main tip would be to really go nuts on cleaning the carbs. They can be real gremlins. If you want to see someone who really knows their stuff work on an XJ, check out this playlist from Mezzmo Engineering (I've found it super helpful): kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6Zh2dWioty7gLQ.html

    Hey there! Thanks for watching. Yes, I feel your pain! My latest video has an update on how things have progressed a bit, but I'm having the same issues. I'm hoping more carb cleaning and a good sync will help. Let me know if you manage to figure out your issues. We might be fighting the same fight!

    ya, i think u go up 2 for the Jets if u have aftermarket exhaust

  • @reaganharper447
    @reaganharper447 Жыл бұрын

    Hey! Yes, definitely! I'd say at least 2 sizes. The stock main jets for this bike are 110, and I had issues even with 112's. If anyone knows where to get 114 or higher, I'd love to hear from you.

    hi friend, just came across ur channel, u obviously put a lot of work into ur videos, and its a shame u dont have more of a following. i just recently rebuilt an XJ bike, as much as it sucks to have to tear down the engine, it is nice to have that peace of mind that everythign is new. my bike had 39K before i tore it down. as for the mixture screws, the Gunsen tuner is... good but i often find it difficult to get right. read the spark plugs, if black, lean out the screw, if clean, richen it. ull go through a few plugs but they are nickel, like 3 bucks a plug

    There is a second chain that powers the alternator (the round thing under the carbs), it has a tensioner that fails.

    Great stuff! Keep up the good work! Your videos are a treat. Easy going, relaxed and nicely shot. I gotta say I like the "gruntyness" of the unbaffled exhaust better but that's just me. Looking forward to the next one 👍

    Thanks very much, Devyn. I really appreciate you watching and the positive feedback. I'll keep 'em coming. Ya know, I'm with you on the sound of the exhaust. Definitely prefer the unbaffled sound, but it's just so insultingly loud! I might invest in a nicer muffler system in the future to hopefully get the best of both worlds. Thanks again for watching!
