The Chemistry Tutor

The Chemistry Tutor

Science, particularly Chemistry, can be really difficult. Don't feel bad if you need extra support... feel bad if you don't ask for help!

I've been teaching GCSE and A level science for 19 years now and my students have convinced me to start this channel.

I'll be posting general videos suitable for all exam boards about GCSE and A level Chemistry, and other equivalent qualifications from other countries.

I'll include:

* viewer requested content.

* topic reviews, where I'll Explain the key parts of a topic in one focused burst.

* Exam Question Walkthroughs, where I'll answer an exam question & talk out loud about how I'm thinking about the question and demonstrating how you can get all the marks.

* whole test walkthroughs, where I'll answer the paper, think out loud & give examiners report feedback too.

* predictions about upcoming exams. I'll do these for as many papers as possible... this is especially useful for A level Paper 3.

Hope it's useful!

    Hi sir!! I finally finished all of my A-levels exams, and while I do not feel confident after them (did a lot of silly mistakes under exam pressure,) I still wanted to write you this message to thank you for your efforts and your videos! I started A-level chemistry really late into year 12 as I didn’t feel as much joy in it as I did for physics. I was struggling to cope with the work, especially as I had to self-learn a lot of the fundamental concepts which were developed in the course later on. While I benefited from a wide array of KZreadrs, there was absolutely no one like you. You made topics easy to understand, came up with loads of examples that actually came up this year (Edexcel)! And your question walk-throughs are amazingly helpful. A-level chemistry quickly became one of my favourite subjects due to how interesting and digestible you made it in your lessons. You never failed to answer my questions when I left them here, and each time I find myself struggling with a concept, your videos come in handy. I will update you on my A-level results once they are released (I need an A*, A, A for my top choice.) Thanks so much for your help throughout the two years. I would not be where I am in my education without you. Keep doing what you do best, I am sure many chemistry students appreciate you just as much as I do!

    It can. Usually, in an exam, you'll get given a molecular formula that will allow you to narrow it down. For instance there won't be an N in the formula for instance. If there is an overlap, then exam boards are careful to not have any of the other elements it could be present in the actual molecule

    What if the PH starts from 2 ? Is it a strong or weak acid THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO ❤

  • @chemistrytutor
    @chemistrytutor5 күн бұрын

    I suspect you wouldn't get something ambiguous. I think the most confusing thing that would happen is they'd say calculate the pH of a weak acid, and you'd get something 'low', and you might doubt yourself. There isn't really a pH where one changes into another (partly because pH is also temperature and concentration dependent). So, 0-1 is strong. Above that it's not definite. If you got a pH of 2 or so for a weak acid, I wouldn't be start to doubt my calculator

  • @katheriner6456
    @katheriner64565 күн бұрын

    @@chemistrytutor Thank you so much for your reply sir. Is this the case with PH 12. PH 13-14 is strong base and rest are weak right . May I know the range sir please

  • @chemistrytutor
    @chemistrytutor5 күн бұрын

    @katheriner6456 again, there isn't really a range for bases either. Strong or weak is to do with how they ionise rather than a specific pH. I think in terms of strong or weak you'll either be told its strong or weak acid or base... or it'll be one you need to recognise, so NaOH or KOH is strong... NH3 is weak
