Good little tutorial. Just got a Realistic Concertmate-500 (the Radio Shack clone of the Sk-1) and plan on working on an Autechre-like techno album with it.

Hello I'm trying to find a power supply for this synth after buying a deceptive one listed for casio sk-1 that doesnt even match the voltage, what power supply did you use?
@MichiganPeatMoss Жыл бұрын
Jan 2023: Loved mine - got it that same holiday it came out - '85 or '86? Muffly 8-bit sampling but was a hit at family reunions and just experimenting around. Eventually found a used SK-5 and enjoyed it similarly. Wish I didn't sell them 20 years ago on Ebay. :/

You can make some mellotron type of sounds with these old Casio samplers.. the stock presets aren’t all that but add some cool samples and some reverb and you can make some awesome lofi sounds..👍

Weird you say that coz I hear that a lot about using this like that yet no one I knew who had one of these ever did that except for the kind of jocks who’d just take someone else’s to burp or fart in it for a cheap laugh and didn’t really have an interest in music

We would do an Amaj power chord on distorted guitar into the sampling of a casioSK1 then you have a really tough sound....the ostinato repeating pattern in our tune "feverish bridge of time distortion" is that.... Also the keyboard player of the Fuckedtones (HW Shorebird alias Steve Short RIP) had a secret he did with the casio SK1 which he called the "G force" and what you do is hit the G note and the loop at same time ...not exactly sure but something like that, Iit was a secret haha) and it would trick the processor into going into a very strange loopy garbly thing that never stops and sort of builds and builds as the processor tries to figure it out. Actually I think it is you hit sampling, loop and the note G all at same time creates a tri-tone misdisfunction you could call it... If you can get it to do it its very cool...just sit there and the machine tries to catch up to itself and just keeps going.... Here is feverish bridge of time distortion: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6iOy7KYlqS8ZaQ.html Thanks for video!
