Hello there! My name is Nathan, I am a huge bird enthusiast that likes to spend time recording and photographing birds and other wildlife (but focus mostly on birds). My goal to encourage to people look up! You never know what you might see! On this channel you will see videos of various bird species (and other animals) to show what kind of incredible things you can see out in nature!

Put water out for birds. Shallow dish like a pie plate or a shallow bowl with a large rock in it. They need our help especially when its hot outside.
Agreed! We actually have two large kiddy pools we put out for the birds. The ravens love to drink from it and bathe in it!
Raven 1: How's it going? Raven 2: Not bad. You? Raven 1: My wing hurts a bit. Raven 2: Come over here. I'll take a look. Raven 2: Does this hurt? This? Raven 2: It will pass. See you later.

Aww, see, ravens are sweethearts.Crows are also sweethearts but are still gangsters.Ravens are chill, crows, and on the other hand, they love to mob other birds
True! Ravens have a chill demeanor!
@lookingupwithnathan9647 Exactly crows are menaces to society, ravens on the other no.Hey quick question who do you think is faster a crow or raven.I'd say crows because crows can fly up to 30 to 60mph weras ravens only hit 48mph but who do think is faster
@@GOJIEDITZZ555Hard to say, I’ve seen different sources saying different things for both. I’ve seen ravens chase crows and easily match their speed plus see them keep up raptors. I’d lean towards ravens overall but crows aren’t really slow by any means either
@lookingupwithnathan9647 Dang what what advantages do crows have.Well better question who has better stamina I'd say crows because they flap for miles and can't soar like ravens. So I'd say crows have better stamina but what do you think Nathan?
@@GOJIEDITZZ555 Honestly can’t say for sure, the size difference makes it hard. Plus neither are really migratory, so although they can fly for miles within their respective territories I can’t say which has better stamina for absolute certain. I’d still lean towards ravens, I’ve seen them flap snd soar for long periods on end in these huge groups (I like to call them raves), plus they are always moving around. Crows also move around a lot but I haven’t seen them do the same long flies like ravens. Tbh I can’t think of any significant advantages crows have over ravens, except maybe numbers and more of a mob mentality
So amazing! Great video!
Thank you!
That wind will help preen their feathers too! Mother Natures helping hand! 😊
I have a group of crows that I've been feeding at my house regularly for about 2 years. All of the sudden, about 3 weeks ago or so, I've noticed a new raven has taken residence as well. It is the first one I've had around.. and the crows are PISSED 😂😂😂 It seems to have caught onto the daily feedings and wants in. I give them all enough, but what's crazy is when the raven feeds , the crows will all dive bomb it and it doesn't care at all. It's like the boss. I'm just so confused. Will they share territories? The raven seems to set on staying and so do they, but they seem really annoyed lol
That’s awesome 😂. And tbh since the raven knows there is food I doubt he’ll give up anytime soon. The crows will most likely get used to his presence and then they’ll probably share the territory. It’s definitely not unheard of for ravens and crows to share a territory, but it’s more that they are tolerating each other than friendship so they’ll probably harass him from time to time. Thanks for sharing!
Well this is something I don't see every day lol. You must have a good eye to have caught this.
Thank you! I just barely managed to spot these guys when walking by and couldn’t pass the opportunity to film lol
I love ravens they are cool birds, and I know that I'm spotting them more. I really get to know how cool they are.But I have a question why do ravens escort birds out their territory because crows will dive bomb weareas ravens sometimes do the same, but they escort birds instead why do they do that?
I think there are a few reasons but I believe these are the three main ones. Firstly, ravens are much bigger and stronger than crows and have an easier time intimidating other birds. As a result they don’t need to put in as much effort to chase away any birds they don’t like. Secondly, also because of their size and strength ravens really don’t have predators, the biggest concern for them is their nests/young and competition for resources. So they really don’t need to be as concerned about other birds, particularly raptors, when compared to crows. Thirdly, their demeanor is generally more chill than crows so they don’t usually act that aggressive. However they can be very aggressive against raptors at times, especially during nesting season. Our local ravens have been much more aggressive to the hawks and won’t tolerate them being even near the nest when compared to the winter months when they would chase them but generally be more chill and even sometimes ignore their presence. It honestly depends on the situation but that’s my take on the matter!
Nate, you got me watching birds a lot more than I used too. Everytime I see something cool, I think about you. Keep up the good work man!
@@SouthernSierraNevada I love to hear that! And thank you, I will!

@@GOJIEDITZZ555 Maybe you’re just noticing them more now that you’re looking for them. I know before I got into bird watching I really didn’t register the birds in my environment as much but now I can spot a finch in a tree from a mile away lol
@lookingupwithnathan9647 You might be right because, like I said, I usually see more crows than ravens, so you might be right

aww, he forgot the wifi password and now is asking his friend who made his setup work in the first place

I can hear the doves and that's what the hawk is interested in. Ravins like to play but crows hate hawks
The pigeons in the background are actually our pet pigeons that live in an outdoor aviary! And usually the red tail is pretty chill with the pigeons on the outside too (there is a video on my channel of him and his mate hanging out with a group of them)! And yeah, ravens are fun loving birds, but in this case he was pretty upset about the hawk. Thanks for checking it out!

Hey Nathan, good morning. Quick question, so I was wondering because I'm seeing some black birds, and they hop before taking off are those ravens or crows.
Depends on some other things. Were they roughly pigeon size? Or were they closer to the size of a large hawk? If it’s hawk sized then Raven, closer to pigeon size than crow. Any other details would help too!
@lookingupwithnathan9647 I guess pigoen size but they would fly then soar when landing and crows don't soar so they might me young ravens I did see some fairly big birds In trees so they might be ravens
@@GOJIEDITZZ555 It’s hard to say without seeing myself. Crows are slightly bigger than pigeons on average but are generally around the same size, but the thing is Ravens are giant. So if they looked hawk sized I’d say ravens but it’s pretty hard to say.
@lookingupwithnathan9647 Hey Nathan and little update, I am outside, and I was seeing some Crows american crows to be exact, then I saw another black bird, and it tucked it wings and dove but I did it real quick and only did it once is that a raven
@@GOJIEDITZZ555 Sounds like it! Ravens love to tuck and dive and do tricks in the air. As far as I know crows don’t so there’s a good chance you saw a raven!
You have very good knowledge on ravens and crows. Keep these videos coming Nathan!!
I will! Thank you so much!
Hey Nathan, quick question which do you think is smarter, a crow or raven? I think a crow because of how social they are and use tactics to fend of predators
I’d say ravens. Both are pretty equal, and crows are expert problem solvers. But I’ve seen ravens do some pretty incredible things. For instance, our local pair invented a game where one will hang upside from the power lines and the other will try and get it to fall off by pecking its feet. Once one falls the other flies back and they take turns being the one to hang upside down. I haven’t seen them do it in awhile but I have a video posted about it if you would like to check it out! Anyways, As for predators it’s a slightly different approach with ravens because they are much bigger than crows and really have no predators. They do mob raptors they find like crows do, but they are a little more chill about it. Ravens are also very social, and while they do tend to stay in mated pairs of two, they have no problem flocking when other ravens are present, in fact in my area around afternoon all the ravens will join into a huge flock to sleep together! Overall ravens tend to be smarter but it’s pretty equal
Aww thats sweet ravens are sweethearts. While crows are meanaces to society, we have a lot of crows here, both american crows and fish crows. I've seen them do all types of stuff, mess with boxes to get food messed with other animals. I've seen crows mess with a squirrel, hawks, vultures, and even an owl once so ravens are sweethearts and crows are gangsters
Ravens are awesome! But they do share in the mobbing behavior crows have. It’s really just a defense against possible threats and competition, but crows take it more seriously because of the fact they have more predators. Ravens due to their size and girth really don’t have any predators. Out of the two though, ravens are definitely my favorite!
@lookingupwithnathan9647 Hey Nathan, I have a questions, why do ravens escort birds out of their territory instead of dive bombing I know their not crows who gang up on birds of prey but why do ravens escort them I guess because they are not as aggressive
