I took the test yesterday. I asked if they clean the mouthpiece and the guy said it was a new one. Upon examining it, I could see lipstick. He quickly took it off and replaced it with one out of a new package. I also found it on that he took the facemask and tubing from the previous Patient and put it in his backpack. He did that after I told him that I wanted to see the package open to ensure it was new and clean. He stated that the tech before him must not have changed it. I’m sure there was no other tech doing that job.😮 I will be letting my doctor know. He does not have a good bedside manner, so I don’t know that he would really care. But I am considering turning this into the medical board. As far as the test goes, do not be stressed. It is nothing to be stressed about. Just make sure it’s clean.

The healthcare workers are a depiction of the broken for profit medical system that cures absolutely nothing. 90% of the workers are fat and out of shape. Gotta love a doctor who is obese telling you about health. Ridiculous.

It is true that breathing through the nose offers many benefits, including humidification of inhaled air, filtering of dust and other particles, and improved oxygen consumption. However, when we are performing a pulmonary function test, it is better to breathe through the mouth. This is because we are testing maximum lung capacities and force - both of which are much easier to achieve through the mouth. We also need a tight seal for the tests, which is easier to achieve using a mouthpiece.

Why is this all done using mouth breathing? Isn’t that method inefficient and unhealthy? How can you properly measure your body’s ability to perform using suboptimal methods?

I explained to them ahead of time that I was really short of breath that day and expressed my concerns to them. I think that really helped me as well

Thank you Dr. Oran. This explanation was easily followed. I misplaced my instructions. Your from my hometown. It was refreshing to have a delicate situation explained in relatable content. I just want to add that large bed pads {bed wetting ect.] will come in handy for bed and bathroom floor. Old towels will work but you have to wash those. Ladies have a few older and comfortable night gowns at the ready. I also did this in hospital with IV and heart monitor not fun and I wasn't able to proceed because i wasn't cleared. Drink all liquid. Think about going through a dark forest...its' a lot easier if you can see. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

That's almost inhumane. I'm supposed to take one of these tests and I plan to warn them that if I have no air left to breathe out, I'm going to take a breath... not sit there and torture myself. If they tell me I have to continue to, I'll tell them I won't. Plain & simple. It's very obvious that people who are going in for these tests are having Pulmonary problems, and the test probably measures what a normal breathing should look like. Ffs we're not being told to take these tests because we're breathing fine, so they cannot force us to pretend to breathe fine. Can you tell I'm a non-compliant patient? 😂

I just took a spirometry test about a week ago and my pulmonologist said the results were normal in the follow up I had yesterday, yet after I told them about how I used my rescue inhaler an hour before the test they said I wasn’t supposed to do that before any breathing test, and no I wasn’t told this before the procedure. Does this mean my lung function would’ve been lower than what was shown in the spirometry report?

  • @boukieb7544

Maybe, I have to take one and the instructions given were not to use an inhaler for 24 hours before test. Another part said 8 hours before. No cough medicine for 48 hours before. I forgot about that one but I took it was 40 hours before my test so I hope that's still ok.
