    I like how the melody follows its own path and then as if in indecision slows down and changes slightly from western to eastern harmony.

    Autumn captures the feeling of the season beautifully. I live in California so my autumns aren't very much, but the neighbor tones and compound time capture fleeting gusts and falling leaves well, and the V/vi + V/ii thrown into those wide-voiced chords gives it a vast, wistful feeling of morning fog (which we actually _do_ have!). The spread arps in the b-section make it seem like another year setting in. Great movement! The big blocks in winter are wonderful as well--I personally love when simple melodies are made so dense as such.

    Why is it called a concerto in 1 movement? It just sounds like it’s split into 3 short movements

    Where did you manage to get the Shostakovich score pdfs?

  • @musicboiscores
    @musicboiscores26 күн бұрын

    There's this Russian site called Tarakanov's Notes (notes.tarakanov.net) which has an edition of collected works of Shostakovich in 42 volumes for free. That site is great for looking for pieces by Soviet composers in general. Just a heads up though, the site apparently is granted by the Russian government so... it's up to you if you're fine with that or not.

    Way too fast. This version ruined the ethereal quality of the piece. Debussy wrote Moderement.

  • @musicboiscores

    Debussy himself played the Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum at around 150 to 160 bpm from his 1913 piano roll. This recording plays it at around 125 bpm. It's just a light jab at piano exercises (the title is a reference to Clementi's set of exercises, Gradus ad Parnassum), it's not that deep lmao
