Can you address the fifthy airplane seatbelts. I’ve seen inches of dirt build in those filthy buckles. I want to clean but didnt want to stir up the filth. What suggestions do you have.

This is a comment 3 years after this was posted. Probably not a lot of views, or even the creators may never see this. Yet… I’m 56, black and a trail runner. I live and run in SW Washington State. I am in Lewis County if you ever decide to look up what I’m talking about. I have been “running while black” for years. I run and hike to maintain my health and to live. I have a genetic heart condition which is kept under control by maintaining my fitness, so I can’t stop working out. The assaults, harassment, insults, crass comments (hecklers), intentional dog attacks, etc. happen monthly. It’s not pleasant, I have very few resources around me such as gyms, or tracks, or other work out options so I use the public roads and state trails (willapa hills trail specifically). It puts you on the defensive constantly, to the point that I have altered my life and schedule to avoid white people. I don’t go on the trails anymore without being armed. 3 years ago I got 2 large front foot athletic dogs (85lb. Lab/boxer mix) that run with me. The dogs don’t tolerate anyone being aggressive towards us. In December 2023, my lead dog fought off an attack from a property owner along the trail who release their two dogs and purposefully sent them our way with “go get’ ‘em” shouts from them to encourage their dogs. Fortunately, I was quick enough to pull my dogs (who were on leash) into a huddle to protect ourselves. My lead dog after being nipped a couple of times by the larger of the two attacking dogs turned on that dog and destroyed that dog in a bloody mess. I don’t think the property owners anticipated such an outcome from another dog trained to defend his pack. Just last week March 24th, 2024, while on a 22 mile hike, we were driven at by some white man in his 60’s in a gold late 90’s Chevy truck. The guy stops at the last minute as I am waving my hands frantically for him to stop while trying to pull the dogs further into the trail side brush. He then sticks his head out the window starts yelling at me to get off the Hiking trail as this was his daily spot. He cussed me out about being a bastard from Seattle who comes out to the country thinking we own the trails. This is a man who drove a vehicle onto a pedestrian and horse only trail. I don’t recommend this to anyone reading this, but my reaction to this attack was the reaction of being sick and tired. I closed the 50ft distance to him in his truck running his mouth in about 2 seconds, and I don’t think he saw coming the verbal volume and raw rage of my screaming and saliva flying everywhere telling him how tired I was of that bull shit. I was ready to kill this man with my bare hands so was my rage. After 18 miles over 10,000ft of elevation gain (up and down the hills), I was exhausted and not in the mood to withdraw. I backed off from destroying his bigoted self as I noticed the fear in his eyes. He thought he had a free shot at picking on a black person out in the middle of nowhere where. A weird fact I noticed during the altercation was that even my dogs were terrified of me in that moment. I don’t think at my worst they had ever really seen me in anger. The stupid white man, suddenly back down and started sounding feeble and weak as if it had all been a misunderstanding. The point of this telling is to say we should be safe, but don’t stop being out on the trails. White people have made us afraid to do what we have been doing since ancestral times. Hell it was the ability to run and hike that got Blacks out of slavery. Harriet Tubman did not ride to freedom in a Chevy. She did it on foot. Don’t let them scare us off the trails.

Hey Brenda, I was there in August. If you park at the lot closest to the Bamboo Forest the hike is much shorter, like 15 mins or less. Parking was super tight that day so we couldn't find a spot there and had to park at the lot further away. Get there super early if you want to fit in the closer lot.
