I just purchased a really well kept, 92 convertible coupe 325i with 99k miles. I paid almost double what I could have found a rough example, but I didnt want to buy a 32 year old shitbox. Paid $15,000 for my model in Western KY and have no real regrets. Would have loved to get into it for $12,000 but thats neither here nor there. Love the platform and the drivers experience, and happy to have traded my motorcycle days for e30 days
Man, the music is overbearing and its hard to hear your voice. :(
I love my 11/89 E30 325i Cabrio with 5sp manual. Bought it for $2300. 130k original miles. I’ve put a significant amount of money into its restoration, all new stock suspension, new interior, new top, upgraded brakes and the A/C ( which cost more than original car ). It now being painted for about 7k. I don’t really care what I could sell it for as it is my daily joy to drive this classic. I will will it to my daughter when I pass.
Im so glad i got a hold of my 325es a little over a decade ago for $2700.
The E30 will never go down. It'll only go up
I have a 2004 E46 convertible Alpina.Number one-off the assembly line and it's got the plate on the dashboard -That car is so fast that it scares m 5:58 e
People that say bad things about BMW is never owned of BMW and anyway. She's got no business owning the BMW.If you can't take care of it once you're on a b m w you will never go back to any other car
I own E 46 2004 Alpina convertible. And I would not part with that car.The E46 was the best BM.W.They ever made and the best looking
That's so pretty ❤❤
Thanks!
The bike is so cool it looks nostalgia
I love mine! I'm going for OEM+ so when something needs replacement I'm trying to do stock or better. It's lowered with Raceland coilovers which are pretty good for a street car as it's all it will ever be. Found it did roll a bit with hard cornering so put a front strut tower brace on and that helped a ton. Damn fun car to drive!
Great vid ! Thanks for the discussion. I am a first time car buyer and will not be getting a BMW, but i would love to have one in the future. Cheers dude.
I currently daily a 1986 BMW 325e in Schwarz 086! It’s been the most reliable car I’ve ever driven, I love this car and plan to drive it to the damn ground!
M20’s are super reliable, and the b27 in yours will probably never die.
@@DatBimmerGuy so long as i fix the problems it has now. im the first driver since 1999, so it has ALOT of minor problems.
I’m going to buy one of these and use it as a bookshelf. They look great and sturdy.
It would easily function as a bookshelf. I’ve stacked even more on this unit since the video, and it’s held the weight exceptionally well.
Good video man, but you forgot to mention ABS module failure is very common on E38, and of course the the front cup holder haha.
Never had the ABS failure, but I think every e38 has broken cup holders lol.
I just bought an e30 for two grand
Definitely got lucky. Anything running and driving is 5k+ these days.
Talk to’em Sleazy!!
Yassssss
Well said! That's from one cirrus blue convertible owner to another ;) I've taken mine to autocross before and it was a blast (not at all floppy)
dont let me cathc you lackin meatball
A vintage car like this is not meant to be a daily driver. I view it as a car that to appreciate and work on yourself as a hobby. If you’re not willing to use some elbow grease on any classic car then you should not consider owning one. The bottom line is you can’t do all the work yourself like timing chain guides, but have it’s very satisfying to bring the interior as well as the exterior back to OEM standards.
Plenty of people daily drive these cars. Even more daily e30’s. It’s not for the faint of heart or those who don’t turn wrenches. E38’s are still exceptionally expensive to have work done to them.
Great idea, thanks for the post. I had 2 BMW locking wheel bolts that were stripped, both the bolt and the key (similar configuration as in the video). It looked like it was mostly the first 1/8" or so that was stripped on the bolt and key. So I purchased a new key from BMW which I then put on to a breaker bar (with socket) and hammered the key deeper into the bolt past the damaged teeth. This gave sufficient grip to be able to torque both of the bolts out. Maybe an idea to try first.
Hi,It seems like you might have assembled it incorrectly, which could be why it appears to be "not sturdy" ,And We're also sorry for our late reply. Could you please leave your email address? We'd be happy to send you a higher-quality shelving unit for your review.
You can reach me at [email protected] I would be happy to review another unit.
Princess Diana was killed in a W140 Mercedes S-class, not a BMW E38 7-series
Good video man
Appreciate it
But it is true! The bmw market has gone down for the little of $1000 less but like you say its time to wait!!
Dodge has their trucks 15k under MSRP right now, and still can’t sell them. The BMW’s I’ve been watching are dropping like $500/month.
Im high balling my 03 Envoy xl (V8) with 200k for $5500. I put over 50 hours into it, rebuilding trans, front end, yada yada. Haven't had one bite yet from buttfacebook and craigs. Im in Reno, and we usually get hit the hardest on these crashes.
I purchased three. I agree with the comments, it takes 30 to 45 minutes by yourself, but its better when you have someone to help you. The feet would not stay on the last one I put together. Two went inside my home and one went in my garage. Putting it together, it is flimsy. Once together, it is pretty sturdy. Would I purchase again, NO. I purchased from Amazon.
Great video! Looking at getting my 17 Passat tuned and I’ve been contemplating going with APR, but couldn’t find any good video reviews about it until this. Thank you!
I’m at 164k and still going strong. Even still on the stock clutch lol
Music way too loud, good info though.
Timing belt advice spot on but the tensioner pulley and water pump should always be done at this time.
Love the e30 content!! I’ve been interested in the sedan but the cabrio is growing on me, in the UK we get a great deal of rain and some summers can be very wet, is it even more essential to store it in a storage unit (more cost) or can I get away with covering it up on the drive 🤔 I am looking at a cabrio with good history and only some rust to the rear arches which the seller says he has been quoted $630 to restore, thanks
As long as the top is in good condition, along with the seals, you could park it outside and have no worries. Make sure you could bring it in to a body shop and get your own quote before you buy it, unless the car is a very good deal. Plenty of people who try to cover up larger problems and pretend it’s small and cheap to fix, but that they haven’t done it only due to time. The cabrio really is a fun car to drive. Nothing better than roof off summer days. Cheers!
Sleezy what up my guy!!!
Damn it GA! Everything is good here. Hope you and the fam are doing great! Miss ya man!
Can't wait to see what you decide to get. I'm more old school myself but that is just a personal choice. If you get anything with direct injection get a catch can they are cheap insurance, the engines will carbon foul if you don't and cleaning it usually means the head has to come off. Just an odd bit of trivia about how things change over time, the F8Xs are the same size and a tiny bit heavier than my E34 and the G8Xs are the about the same size and heavier than my old E39 540. The best car you for is always the car you like the best.
What king of I D 1 0 T are you??? lo os er! a have asked you to sell me that car or at list let me know if you F u c k... decide t sell it, cause you was saying yo gonna keep it forever.. what a lo - se - er!!!
Good man this shit is messing up my morning
Thank you for your help, its greatly appreciated...👍🏾
Glad I could help
It’s a beautiful comfortable find to drive machine. It’s a shame the reliability is so damn poor. I had a 2001 mondep that was one owner and all repairs and services were dealer stamped. I bought the car and I’m four years easily spent what I paid for it just keeping it going. Had everything fixed and serviced at the dealer before I sold it. Guy was super happy. The car was like showroom near still. Three months later he had it up for sale for a quarter what he paid for it cause it had broken down three time in his short ownership. This is a horrible horrible car.
Timing chains and guides are really fair for maintaining this gorgeous engine - much better than doing rod bearings like on some of the M cars 😳 This video brings back memories of my first BMW - a 2000 e46 - had to fix the cooling system, window regulators, headliner, few rust spots and broken clips on the dash trim. Despite all of that I absolutely loved it and it drove like a dream! Thanks for your video on this beautiful car and I’m glad I found your channel! I’m on my 7th BMW and I’d never drive anything else! Take care and God bless!
Thanks for the kind words! I love the e38 platform, and it was always a dream of mine to own one. But I quickly realized that if I was going to be forced to maintain one, I’d rather pay the minor extra difference and get an M car🤷♂️ BMW’s are definitely an addiction. The e38 was my fourth, and I’ll be getting number 5 this coming year. Easily the best car community as well.
@@DatBimmerGuy Absolutely agree - BMW community is awesome 👌🏻 I was almost considering an Audi at one stage - needless to say that “community” is like a clan of accountants comparing calculators 😑😑😑😑 Excited to see what your next BMW will be! Please keep us posted on your channel 😎
Nice video, I had a 2000 540i (among other BMWs over time) and after watching this and looking at your earlier E38 ownership video there was a strong sense of déjà vu. What I've learned from my experience is absolutely, positively no more BMW V8s for me and I prefer obd1 to obd2. The models that I finally went with are a '89 325i coupe for weekends/fun and a '95 525i as my daily, although I did swap out the M50 rotating assembly with that of the M54 3.0 so I have the reliability and easy inexpensive maintenance of the M50 but with 3 liters.
The M62 is such an amazing engine when everything works right. However, it can easily break your wallet and your spirit. Both the M20 and M54 are excellent engines. Keep them stock or boost them, doesn’t matter. Thanks for watching the channel!
thank you for this. I'm looking to buy an E30 or E36 soon and really needed some info on their childhood issues.
The reason he show it being flimsy is that he dosn't have it assembled correctly. You must have the both clip in the slot and hammered in. It is very strong once assembled correctly. I will say no way you will get it assembled in 10 minutes as the manufacture states. Took me 30 on my second one.
I assembled it correctly, I’m just saying it’s cheaply made. It was quite flimsy while I was putting it together. I have nothing to gain by showing the actual product, and what my opinion of it is. It has held up fine in the time I’ve had it, but I won’t be ordering another.
I think you got it exactly right, look at the E30 as a Miata that can carry four and luggage for the weekend, it's about the driving experience and fun rather than outright speed. Can you make an E30 a fast track car sure but it will lose most of what made it so fun in the process. Besides the E36 and E46 are better options and of the three the E36 is the best bang for the buck, dollar for dollar an E36 track car will be faster than an E30. Personally I like the sedan, the four doors make rear seat access much easier and I lack the gene that makes open air driving enjoyable. But for those who want options they do have removable hard tops for the cabriolets.
Exactly! Too many people get caught up in what they think others will like, and lose focus on what they’d like the most. An e30 is an iconic car because of its history and it’s fun to drive, not because it’s fast. I just happen to prefer the convertible, but definitely understand why others might have different opinions. Just wish more in the e30 community wouldn’t overlook convertibles, because they really are just as fun to drive.
amazing video man keep it up!
Thanks!
Amazing video with great info! I have had my tune for about 25,000 miles and I am at 73,000 miles! I absolutely do not regret it at all! I do have an automatic transmission and I notice I have some pretty bad turbo lag and I think it’s because of the auto! For anyone wondering my transmission has been fine! It already had a small clunk and occasional hard shift before the tune and had not gotten worse with it! You really can’t beat the hp per dollar and it really woke up the car! Anyway great video!
Here is the thing. The convertible is not as beautiful as coupes. It is ugly !!. And I had several E30s. The convertible has no class at all. It is a parts car because it has the special seats, special steering wheel. Make a survey on the community. You will see. Nobody likes the convertible. Except for Richard Gere in Pretty woman !
Just a matter of opinion🤷♂️
You might want to dial back the attitude a bit. Every e30 fan has their favorite and there isn't a bad choice, from the driver's seat they all feel the same. Does the cabriolet have unique front fenders and rear seating, yes but who cares (take a look at the 325iX sometime). FYI that "special steering wheel" was the sports wheel a no cost upgrade for cabriolets in the US since they were a higher priced premium model. Also if you prefer the plastic face lift bumpers to the US diving boards they will fit on any year cabriolet without the need to cut the ends off the rear. If you want to know what the e30 community thinks about cabriolets head to the e30 picnic in Seattle, the largest gathering of e30s in the world, you will see plenty of open top e30s getting just as much respect as anything else.
i just read this and the thing is, e30 enthusiasts most likely prefer the coupe. And sure, i get that. But from a regular person's perspective, the convertible is the nicer car. When a regular run of the mill person sees a hard top e30, the shape is a box. most normal people consider convertibles to be the more luxurious/sporty silhouette option. Also e30s are now considered the classic car, and for those people who want an intro "collector" car in their garage, they'll pick the convertible for their weekend cruiser for enjoyment and top down fun, as well as something that stands out. remember, not all car owners are enthusiasts. some just wanted that dream car or the IT car. and the convertible fits a lot of checks on most peoples boxes that aren't enthusiasts.
what a freak lie. log off rn u alien
Main dealer won’t force the wheel nut off ! They have every master key that fits ! Mechanic will just find the correct locking wheel nut and remove as usual !
Of course the dealer won’t do it. This is a method that mom and pop tire shops use to get them off. You could buy the socket and bar from Harbor Freight for like $25 and do it yourself.
love the intro, all stops cause she needs a bath, then bliss and music fades in... kinda how I feel when I go ""out" basically to the car wash at 11pm and detail till three in peace and quiet with my 735i baby
Damn right!
muchas gracias por tu video!!
What?😂😂😂 it is too late to buy, not time to buy😂😂 the prices gone through the roof 5 years ago
And 5 years ago, people were saying it was crazy to pay 6k for a clean 325is. The market for the e30 will only get stronger. 10 years from now, people will talk about when e30’s “only” cost 15k.
I just bought one- after watching them go up in values for a bit- I realized it’s time to get in. I saw this happen with my old Porsche. Now I couldn’t really afford it.
I've purchased an E38 740i Sport, an E38 740i and a E38 750iL all at some level of being a project car. I went into each car knowing it would cost a minimum of $10k each above purchase price to bring them up to my standards. These cars were the top-of-the-line luxury car in 1999 and 2000. To think they can be brought back to the quality/reliability of car they were/are for cheap isn't realistic. Once brought back though, there isn't a finer, more satisfying car to own.
Plus no Sunroof rust issues
Exactly!
