Just bought cleveland hywood and hybrid to try out. I like to tinker.. can I put in my current axiom 75s shaft gamers into the hywood? I’m looking at Cleveland site, hywood is now 0.335” shaft compatible (prior edition was 0.355” I think) Can I slightly sand axioms to 0.335 without risking structural integrity? I read most graphite shafts are made factory at 0.370 then all tapered from there so this should be ok. Any insight? I’ve tapered to 0.355 before but not sure about .335
I think .335" is too far a stretch to reduce a shaft that started at .370" 😬 Axiom are quite thick walled but I wouldn't myself I've used driver shafts that have snapped at the tip to get something stiffer into a hybrid like this The Cleveland Hywood and the Callaway UW both have 0.335 hosels, so they take proper wood shafts
Ok great. Thank you!
@@FredzGolfany recs on what shaft you would put in these hywoods if I can’t put axiom stiff? I know it’s personal preference but curious as to your first choices. I remember a prior vid you had custom shafted a hywood
@anthonyleblanc4645 Best shaft without an upcharge is the Miyazaki Kori 7 - they work REALLY well [if ordering new] Upcharge wise, you can go all out and Ventus Velocore it but I think that's a bit too much 😜 Personally I'm experimenting with some Driver shafts that I've pulled out of older clubs haha 😄
Very informative. Would like to see the black and blue 5s number comparison if available. Better for us older guys...
You're in luck!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zmh8xLl_dtCvf6Q.html
@@FredzGolf Great, thank you!!
Tried Ventus blue 6S but recently switched to Tour AD VF 6 X-stiff on driver and am really liking it. ~100-105 mph SS. Need to get properly fitted though. Keep up the good content! Very helpful and entertaining to watch as well. Cheers.
Can’t wait to hit the Black 6x that comes tomorrow on my Cobra Darkspeed LS. I hit the green project X 6.5 high hope this helps to lower trajectory

Great test. I have been using Titleist ProV1X but yesterday I walked 9 holes and switched to Srixon Q Star after 4 holes. It felt absolutely wonderful off the face. It was a bit cold (10C) and the Q Star is much more suited to the Icelandic heat wave. ;)
What happens if you dont use the weights the driver comes with??
As in replace with after market weights or simply play without them? Without the weights you can generate more speed, however there is less mass going through the ball The head twists and deflects more if you hit the ball off centre By all means, try it out and see!
@@FredzGolf awesome thank you so much for your help. It's greatly appreciated
This this driver worth upgrading from ltdx?
If I were to fit 20 people with the same question and do a proper fitting with each ....Same loft and same shaft, 2/20 would benefit (in my opinion) Maybe 5/6 of the 20 would be using the wrong loft and shaft and benefit from tuning in better launch through changing loft/head settings/shaft type...
X7 all day baby. But got me considering spending some cash to try a new shaft
The 7X is a beast ...Is there anywhere near you to try out some proper shafts? Even if it confirms the current one is good?
@@FredzGolf I’d either have to travel to Barbados to Apes Hill Country Club or a PGA store in Florida. Most times in Barbados because I frequent there a few times a year for work and the golf community there is very welcoming and larger. Much much larger
Chippers aren’t made to be hit like that champ this vid is no good to anyone
The thumbnail says what I was going to do ...and I did that ..If people click on it then the video stays :)
Hopefully something comes out to drop the ventus prices down to experimental levels. Keep up the good work.
eBay I got mine there for much cheaper
Nice :)
Unfortunately I think they'll stay where they are price wise... Too much, very strong Tour presence ....If they drop the price, the quality will suffer :) Like the other comment, 2nd hand could be the way forward to experiment!
Amigo, you’re legit making all the videos answering hypothethical questions I’ve asked myself. So judging by this, I’m thinking having a 6S black+ in my bag to supplement the 6X blue depending on how I’m swinging that day. I have a Velocore Black TR 6S in my 3W and its just buttery smooth. I had a non-velocore Ventus blue 5S and I ended up completely splintering it. I think its just not enough material for anything consistently north of 105 mph swing speed. I definitely have my muppet days, and for those days we go 6S #MuppetGolf Great video man, you gotta do the fairway woods Velocore+ next! Nothing on KZread addressing this. Actually surprised how little coverage on KZread there is on these new shafts, its all just Fujikura promo stuff.
Hmmm You have a point with the FW coverage ...I may have to bite the bullet hehe
Love Ventus blue 🔥
Every time I watch your videos I'm tempted to buy something!
Right? F’in $280 every time Freddie makes a video lol
Haha ...Sorry mate :) hopefully the video's make anything a 1 off spend and not a rabbit hole hunt!
@@FredzGolf haha nah, def not a rabbit hole. Those Axioms have been awesome as well as the Velocore+, I broke 80 twice now, and even broke 70 on a Par 62, so its all for the love of the game. Keep ‘em coming Freddie. When you’re in South Florida, we gotta get a match goin 👍
@@FredzGolf makes me think of upgrading my driver shaft. Pxg 0311 diamana s+ 60 regular flex. I'm looking for more carry.
@dennisbuckner1405 Do you know what sort of numbers you get? Average launch angle, spin rate and carry? 🙃

Hello i hit a huge fade (i know it isn’t a slice because start line is correct)… i want to try this but how do i get over the fear that it might hook?
Try it out in practice ...Get a few where you do it too much and see if the balls direction is too far left ...You have to over-do the feeling to get the feel for where the good one is ...One thing I'd say is to release the toe to a target to help funnel the consistency of the release :)
@@FredzGolf apprecieate it!

@logandaniels5 Yeah, not great for headphones! Something to do with the settings on my mic, I think I have it sorted on more recent videos 📹
Prov1 is slower than prov1x and even left dash
Indeed, also slower than the Chrome Tour... I need to test Chrome Tour X against Pro V1X

How are you getting on? :)

Srixon is a lot of bang for the buck 🙌
Very True ....Underdogs in the Woods category but they still perform, I'd happily use them in competitive golf ...Top of my list for Irons and Utility/Driving Irons 100%
anyone else noticing the matte finish on the black rubbing off really quickly from being in the bag? i’ve had mine for 2 weeks and the soft, velvety material on the dividers on my Vessel Player IV Pro bag has already worn a shiny spot on my driver shaft. never had anything like that happen before.
Ah that's annoying, I've not noticed it yet but they sit in a rack and not in a golf bag here!

Mine is a 5 wood
Hello, what was the playing lenght of the shafts and tipping?? Thanks
Playing length 45.25" and no tipping - They're my demo shafts so don't want to mess around with them against a standard build :)
@@FredzGolf thanks!!
Love it. I want to do this to my hy-wood now
@@georgegregory4547 It's a good move 🙃
What product did you use to remove the old paint? I tried paint stripper but it stained the wedge.
@chrisredman2364 I used paint stripper ....I tend to leave it on for an hour and toothbrush it around then leave for another hour and haven't had it stain a black head yet!! You can just put new paint over the old paint 🎨 just make sure it's clean of dirt and debris
@FredzGolf awesome mate. Appreciate the tips. Think I may have left mine on for a bit too long hence the strain. 👌
Unfortunately this comparison makes little sense given the *dramatically* different bend profiles of these shafts. Any difference in performace could just as easily be due to the bend profile than to the weight differences. A better comparison would be 115 to 105, for example. But I guess if you only want to compare stock shafts, as opposed to doing an actual fitting, this is the best one could do.
True indeed ...115 is pointless in the fitting kit as the cost to have them in a set isn't worth it while I'm not a component only account There's enough shafts in the matrix to do very good fittings The 105 and 120 having dramatically different bend profiles is kind of the whole point - they have similar things written on them and similar labelling so mist people assume they are close in performance - I'd say that's the point in this test, to show that
@FredzGolf I mean, there's a $20ish uncharge per club, which isn't a lot if you're already spending $1-1.5K... so the 115 is certainly worth trying for anyone who doesn't want a super light or heavy shaft but likes the profile of the Modus 105/115/125. It's not as if the only people who play 115 got it stock... that's like saying you should never test a Ventus Velo in a driver because there's a large uncharge -- doesn't make much sense.
@eric1020 The 115 isn't on the UK upcharge list so I have to supply and build them and cannot do that at such a small upcharge here The UK Srixon fitter also doesn't have the 115 in his fitting kit A Velo is a Velo, I've got demos and can test and prove their worth and they sell ....I get the cost of the demo shafts back at the end of the year I'm not building a 115 demo modus because I have zero demand for it in my studio 😇 hence the 105 120 comparison I do have Axiom and a few other upcharge shafts that mix well with the UK matrix like C Taper and Project X LZ and I built them for specific customers 🙂
@@FredzGolf I see, things are a bit different in the States it seems. I'm on the market for new irons and I will be testing both Modus 115 and 120 because they're the weight I like, so I can't play 105 or 125, but want to test that profile. I probably wouldn't spend $40-50 per club extra either... I'd just play DG120 instead of Modus 115 😆
@eric1020 I've had a few comments about the 115 and I guess the UK just strips back a few options compared to the US! We nearly didn't even get the ZX5 LS Driver head in the UK which would have left them hanging for Driver sales completely Have you got the chance to go for a fitting and test some shafts out?
The test I’ve been waiting for 👍 so basically fairly similar. Can you do some tests of Velocore Red/Blue/Black in fairway woods? Noticed that with driver off the tee I can switch between all of them, but off the deck in fairway woods there is a noticeable performance and feel change for each because the margin for error is smaller. Curious to see numbers to confirm or deny though.
Hmmm, there's a massive cost implication to get the demo shafts again and build for the fw woods 😇 return on investment may not happen if I get them this year but I'll see if I can get my hands on some for a vid at some point! 🙂
@@FredzGolf I know what you mean, I dropped some change filling my bag with Ventus. Everybody is always focused on Driver shafts, and the fairway woods are always an afterthought it seems…but you end up using those just as much as driver and they have to be versatile, both off the tee and off the deck.
@@FredzGolfany thoughts on dropping from a 6X to 6S with the Black compared to Blue because its a stiffer profile?

I have a 3 hy-wood which dips in and out of the bag. The only thing I find I am not so keen on is the longer shaft.
@@georgegregory4547 Thought about having it cut down? 🙂
@@FredzGolf I have yes. Just a little worried the shaft will feel a little light. What’s your thoughts mate? It’s quite light as it is. I like the idea of something similar to what you built for yourself.
Any chance you can do a compare of the Ping G430 4 hybrid versus Cleveland Halo XL 4 Hybrid?
There is a chance but it's a slim chance ...Depends if one gets traded in or if I can borrow a customers one ...I'll keep it on my radar though :)

I have a ventus blue velo plus right now. It hits high long straight bombs , however my spin numbers are very high. I am torn from moving to the ventus black velo plus or the diamana PD , both are amazing , spin comes down 400 rpm , launch is one degree lower....diamana has smoother feeling so is easier late in a round but ventus black gives me about 7yrds longer which is half a club
Decisions decisions!! Have you tried lowering the loft with the Velo Blue?
@@FredzGolf cant lower loft it opens the club face which does not work with my swing at all
