unless he was very sick I think this acting is over the top. In real life he would have been 65 years old and he lived for over 20 more years yet in this scene he moves like a 90 year old man. Sometimes actors get captivated by an idea and end up 'showing' their idea to the audience.

love the man behind the door was tommy KING like admiral of the USA in charge of the invasion of northern Africa called operation TORCH on 11-8-42, We know on 4-42 was jimmy Doolittle suicide attack on Japan and the failed Canadian invasion of deppe landing in 4-42... like the olds car 442 a day of memory of the past. nash equilibrium game theory used before it was known,.. pen ceremony like when you succeed at TORCH and get a promotion... the first offensive of WWII in Europe was the invasion of Africa.

The pens are given as a sign of respect and a symbolic gesture of being of a lessor ability than the person given the pen. It is more important for the recipient to write down what he knows and preserve his knowledge for others, thus the deep significance of giving the pen.

Love the movie but this particular scene - I totally distracted by the pen layout inconsistency. The pen arrangement randomly switched between shots and it totally undid the magic.

I understand Hollywood’s need to fabricate parts of a script to make it easier to put up on the big screen. But this clip has always chaffed me a bit. There has never been a pen ritual as part of recognizing someone and they could have found a much better way to express the wishes portrayed in this clip.
