  • @ApexVaulting

    Why? If it is already straight above the head when the pole hits the top hand ends up behind the head. And then it has to be moved forward. With the elbow slightly bent when the pole hits the back of the box the arm will straighten out and the top hand wont go as far back.

    @@glenncolivas4273 no disrespect but you do realize if your arm is straight and above your head and the pole hits the box your shoulders and back have to absorb that impact. And then the top hand goes way behind your head which then wastes time because you have to row it forward. How are the push off’s at your club. • @ApexVaulting

    People in the pole vault oversimplify everything. There are different aspects and points of the vault where you are pushing pulling bracing or holding. And how else would your hips get above your shoulders without using your upper back and eventually bottom arm to pull your hips up. Do you struggle to get push off?

  • @logangossard8324
    @logangossard8324 Жыл бұрын

    @@ApexVaulting I do not struggle to get push off, so far I have jumped 15’6 holding a 14’ handgrip. Maybe we are talking about two different parts of the vault, I thought you were talking about the takeoff, I do some what agree when you are upside down, pulling is slightly needed, but at takeoff the vaulter should be pushing straight up to get elasticity in the chest

  • @ApexVaulting
    @ApexVaulting Жыл бұрын

    @@logangossard8324 that’s a good push off! Yea I dont think you should push up at take off. If you have a tight grip and jump up the hands should go above your head once the pole hits the back of the box. If you push you will delay the swing and keep your hips down. What do you mean? Doesn’t your top arm elbow have to bend so you can pull turn?

  • @TheIronEagle
    @TheIronEagle Жыл бұрын

    @@ApexVaulting no, the top elbow should not be bending and pulling the way she was doing that is a bad habit as well. That elbow should be locked at the point of contact of the tip of the pole to the box. Having arm bent at that point developed bad habits. Everything else looked good

  • @ApexVaulting
    @ApexVaulting Жыл бұрын

    @@TheIronEagle I think we are talking about two different points in the jump. I like a slight bend in the top arm elbow because when the tip hits the back of the box the top arm then straightens and it downs get hit as far behind the head which then requires athlete to correct and row forward which slows down the swing speed. And as far as turning the top arm elbow must bend as your turn. Otherwise you won’t have an effective push off and you will fall off the top of the jump. It makes jumping above your grip more difficult

    How do you work on keeping your hips behind the pole

  • @ApexVaulting
    @ApexVaulting Жыл бұрын

    Usually your hips move past the pole if you run into take off or you push your arms forward. Your hands should get above your head and allow you to pull with the bottom arm and upper back to accelerate the swing and that will allow your hips to stay behind the pole. If you are flat or stab the box your hips will go forward.

    Great content, especially your discussion of average to excellent. I believe it is an important point to work to make average move toward excellent so that even if most training sessions are average, as a whole they have improved because good and excellent have also moved in concert with average. For example, I presume Mondo's average practice when he was 10 is quite different than his average practice now.

    It has been suggested, "You can't teach what you don't know." It should, therefore, be a surprise to no one that Branko is such an amazing coach/teacher; he is an amazing scholar of the pole vault. As someone who has experienced the opposite in high school and college, namely either no coach or a coach who knew little or nothing about the pole vault, I can speak first hand to what a rewarding experience it is to have such a knowledgeable and motivating coach in Branko and Apex Vaulting.

    That’s your opinion. I think that most people don’t realize what muscle groups are used to move the pole or raise their center of mass up during the swing. You have to use your upper back muscles (lats) to pull and swing up the pole. I undertanad this doesn’t look like pole vault but athletes are learning how to use their upper back muscles to move the pole and raise their center of mass. By the way loved you in the batman tv show!
