Ride in the cab with the crew.
Hiya!~total nice uploading. have a good one!Tank245,🎥
7 1/2 inch gauge?
Yes
Hey, I have a train like that in my workshop
I wish there were more narrow gauge models running on 4.75'' track, but there are hardly any 1'' clubs in America.
Thanks for the ride. We only visited once, a year ago today, Narrow Gauge Meet had just finished up but Jim was still running. Took me a few minutes to orient myself as to where you were running as we never rode any trains, I rode my bike around and checked it out. We are determined to return.
Would you recommend an RMI to someone starting out in the hobby? Would you consider them a reliable alternative to building an engine?
Probably not recommend one to a new person but I guess it depends on your situation. If you buy an RMI engine you're looking at around $40,000-$70,000. As for someone starting out in the hobby, well, If you want a BIG engine then go for it. But they are a handful and might be a little challenging for someone that doesn't know how to transport or re rail something that big.
There certainly good locomotives, but as mentioned previously they are massive and subsequently hard to move around. I'd suggest looking for a good secondhand 1.5" scale locomotive as almost anything smaller than a pacific can be put in a pickup bed and moved around quite easily.
A very nice layout.... ut Man.... what a lot of "Junk and Scraps" lying about!!! Way too messy for my tastes...:). Ted Schempp, Nashville
Where is he located at and does he give visitors rides?
Why does your locomotive shake so much? ✌
It doesn't. It's the camera mount.
Beuatiful locomotive. Sure looks to be a lot of fun.
I like the modern take an engine shed.
This is the best train related intro for yt ive ever seen
Thanks, The song is "Twenties" by Wolfgang Lohr & Loredana Grimaudo
is that on all little engines? im thinking of getting an 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 and it looks like a similar one, your mogul has an amazing whistle
Was this an 0-6-0 modified to a Mogul? The smokebox looks awfully long. Great whistle.
Yes. It's a 2-6-0 that was built off of a little engines 0-6-0 kit with a larger than normal boiler.
@@Tank245 With a steel boiler and copper fire tubes, is there an anode rod in the boiler to prevent galvanic corrosion?
@@natehill8069 This engine has an all copper boiler with copper tubes. Some engines do have sacrificial plugs, but for the most part boiler treatment such as LSB8000 is used.
@@Tank245 Oh, thats what thats for? I thought it was to reduce scale from minerals in the water. So whats your thoughts on tap vs filtered vs distilled water? Meaningful difference?
@@natehill8069 it does reduce scale, but boiler treatment also is an oxygen scrubber, and removes oxygen from the water to help prevent corrosion. As long as you're using boiler treatment, it doesn't really matter what kind of water you're using. Whether it's good water such as the water we have at my club, or for the very hard water at train mountain, as long as you're using boiler treatment you'll be fine.
How long is a 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone steam locomotive and how does it weigh!
I have seen Craig Mountain Lumber Co. Heisler #3 running at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad back in September 9th 2023.
Just not wild about the cab view idea. I would rather see the engine rather than the trees!
Well it's hard to see the engine from the outside when I'm running it from the inside lol
I wish I lived closer so I could volunteer
My congratulations to the new recruit! Great video as well. A wonderful machine.
That's my favorite firewoman!
I kept hoping that *someday* trains will run again out to Banks. In November 2023, the weeds were cleared along the tracks parallel to US 26 near Banks, so I had a glimmer of hope. Those hopes died on December 13, 2023, when we drove along 26 again, and the ties and rails have now been yanked-up.
It is sad. But I've never had hope the line would reconnect with banks. Too much money to repair a line that would never repay that cost of repair. The silver lining is the washout saved the coastal portion from the same fate and has allowed us to run steam excursions for 20 years.
@@Tank245so how far east can you guys run now until you reach the area where the tracks are pulled up? Is it as far as Foss?
@@matthewgustafson5225 our trackage rights end at the end of the runaround in Enright. The tracks are open all the way to Batterson, albeit trains are not permitted across the Nehalem River bridge in Wheeler, only MOW and speeders, until we secure funding for the repairs to the bridge. Beyond Batterson, there is a small bridge that needs replaced that was majorly damaged in a 2015 storm. Beyond that, the tracks are open to Salmonberry. Then about a mile after Salmonberry is the first major washout that closed the line in 2007.
Nice steam engine any ideas about what a good start steam locomotive is I am new to the hobby I was told to get involved in a club or something probably a good idea
Great video.... thank you for sharing.
So cool thks
awesome cab view
What's the length of the northern pacific 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone steam locomotive!
Nice work! I'm actually building a Mogul as well (Allen mogul), and was wondering if I could mooch off of your drawings for the Vanderbilt. I too like the looks of the SP M6 locos
Go for it! The drawings are original SP. any measurements I couldn't get from the drawings I took off of an SP 2-6-0 on display here in Oregon with the same 100-c tender.
Where did you obtain drawings for the 100-c? I live in Alaska, so visiting one of the Moguls in person will have to wait for a while
@@williamliebbe6323 I was able to get them from a railroader friend of mine. But I know they can be found online, I just dont remember the websites that had them
A fantastic tender. Great video.
This engine GN 274B was at one time set up to burn bunker oil . What a mess. Ran her many times.
What's the "highball" stands for?
It's an old fashioned railroad slang term giving you permission to proceed.
@@Tank245 Thanks a lot
Very Excellent scene. I cannot this one. Greate effort. Beautifull ❤️👍👍
That is a really cool engine. I wonder if the secondary decorative whistle is functional
Both whistles are functional. I didn't use the bigger whistle under the running board on video because the pipe after the whistle valve is cracked.
This man is living my best life.
Wow Edit: You Should be getting More Views!!!
I'm just happy people are watching it in general. I mostly just do this for my own entertainment so it's nice to see it getting watched.
Nice engine, it kind of looks like an enlarged and beefed up version of your mogul, but that might just be me
Side by side, they're very similar in size, the boilers are almost exactly the same length, but the 2-8-0 has a longer frame. The Mogul was built oversized for what it is. The biggest difference is the mogul is much lighter with it's thinner copper boiler, and the connie is quite a bit heavier with a thicker steel boiler.
@@Tank245 Do you suspect the consolidation to be stronger or about the same?
Given that the Consolidation weighs a good deal more than the mogul, it will have much better tractive effort and be able to pull more. The mogul steams well and has plenty of power, but it lacks in tractive effort.
And what a sweet deal you got too👍
The train man sure knows how to build a railroad, that train runs great.
Even though she's far from her old home, she's doing amazingly well and just as loud and proud!
nice whistle; you should hold it steady going past the camera once, so people can hear the Doppler shift. exactly the sort of loco Im looking for. Well, cept Id rather have coal.
This engine used to be coal, and I get why people like the nostalgia of coal, but im not a fan. I'll do it occasionally at a friends railroad for fun, But coal is a lot of extra work that's just not for me.
@@Tank245 Sure, its a pain, and in fact until I started hanging around with live steamers I always assumed I would use propane cause its so simple and clean. But I dont like having the propane car between me and the pax. If I could run it on Diesel or kerosene and store the fuel in the tender since its more dense that would be good. But I like the authenticity of coal, particularly the smell. Reminds me of when I was a kid standing on the highway overpass with my grandfather and the trains would go underneath and the steam would cut off on one side and start up again on the other and you would smell the coal.
Excellent rail road, great video, giant people, frightening. 😮
Steam is king, in any size! Love that Z-5!
Those are some nice Marti burners there is that a mogul?
No it is not a Mogul. It's an Allen 10 wheeler 4-6-0. This engine belonged to the Late John Felt from southern Oregon. He passed away in 2018 and his engine sold. Sadly, I haven't seen it since.
Great shots and views!
Nice video Tim. And no T-storms
Thanks Steve. No Thunder storms that day at least.
The OCSR intro always makes me happy. Good stuff!
Yeah I'm happy with this intro. The modern style swing music i feel fits in perfectly with the theme.
I know that Steve Arnold guy! Still haven't been allowed to see the N scale layout or the Little Blue Steam Locomotive, yet! Maybe my third visit will afford me such luck?
Very nice.
The big engines are masterpieces! You can have just as much fun with a 0-4-0 for a vastly smaller price. If it is steam, I like it.
WOW!! thats an awesome railroad
It really is. The portion where we go down the 3% to the bridge, he has plans to extend that track further down to his barn. I'm hoping to see that happen one day
