    @@seacatMEOWThanks. I have seen several Selkirk Rex before (my husband was interested in getting one for some time, he now has a Tennessee Rex instead) but never a black smoke. Our black smoke was a non-show but still gorgeous little Turkish Angora that looked like black and silver marble; miss her every day.

    Hi Sea Cat. Will be getting a new kitten as my last cat, Schprokets, had to be down for a number of age-related issues (17-years). As such I would like to leash-walk my new fur friend. I am just starting to watch videos on the acclimation process, but that specific topic is - or I've not found - not out there. Could you point me to any resources or personal experiences on acclimating an indoor cat to a harness for walks. Of course all cats are individual with wide-varying personalities and may never tolerate a harness, but I'd like to try. Greg. BTW, nice video of your felines.

  • @seacatMEOW
    @seacatMEOW5 ай бұрын

    Hi Greg, So sorry to hear about Schprokets. If you decide to leash walk your new kitten, please start you kitten at a young age. Based on our experience, we let Daisy walk around our home for a week or so in her harness & leash. When we brought her outdoors, we had her stroller for her to jump into in case she became scared. Please select the right harness and leash and remember cats have their definition of leash walking!

    I love the energy in your video. I go on a walk with my cat multiple times a day, but without a leash though, the little lady is lucky that I have a big garden (100m²). She and I go hunting together, I walk around and scare the grasshoppers, she catches and eats them. I don't have a litterbox inside my home and when dark and my Yodita needs to deliver a message, she comes to me asking to come with her, she's a little afraid to go outside in the dark alone. I live in la selva Amazónica, which is scary haha I have a kind of an open toilet and she does the same with me. When I have to deliver a message to pachamama, she sits in front of me, guarding me. Sometimes she comes home with a living Tarantula. I always take those from her, in order to place them back outside in a safe place. I'm not worried about my cat, a Tarantula bite won't kill her (it's like a sting of a wasp), but I just don't want her to kill Tarantulas, which are harmless and beautiful spiders. 90% of the Tarantulas shoot urticating hairs, you also don't want that to your cat to happen. It won't kill them, but it's not very good for them either.

    Omg I just watched my cat eat a grasshopper for the first time after being an indoor cat all her life. She's such a good little hunter, it's in their DNA! It's so sad most people don't let them do it more. And why do we feed them chicken and beef, they should be eating things they'd eat in the wild like mouse insect snake 😅😅

    Step 1 - find one they can't easily escape from! We got through 4 before we found the right one. For us it is the only safe way for him to have 'outside time' and he loves it. As a rescue, he was terrified of everything outdoors (especially people), but he has grown so much in confidence since we started going out with his leash and holster harness. The neighbours all think I am weird, but I don't care. He is happy and that's all that matters. And they need contact with the earth, too. It is a healing thing for animals.

    That's totally natural for cats to act that way. We had to work with Daisy when she was a kitten. We trained her in our home and when she started to walk, we trained her outside. She loves to walk on her leash, as long as she has her stroller beside her to jump into.

    I remember seeing the guy with the monkey back in the late 80's when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I watched in amazement as a crowd of tourists surrounding the monkey, held out dollars for him to come up and snatch out of their hands. The monkey must have collected 100 dollars or so in just the ten minutes that I stood there and watched. In that moment, I knew exactly how I would get rich when I grew up -- I'd get myself one of those dollar-snatching monkeys. I'm all grown up now... and still not rich. Probably because I strayed from the plan and never bought the monkey.
