  17:38 The lower floors of the Pharos are hellish in weak mode, I barely scraped by, doing the bare minimum to access the Shadowseer and get the best Pole as quickly as possible. Normally I thoroughly explore the whole area but it's just miserable in a weak mode playthrough and I don't think I missed anything too important from chests as I've already platinumed the game during my standard playthrough. Even simply trying to leave the room with the dark altar is brutal if you're not ready for the onslaught of enemies that hunt you down. Bubble, a good decoy tank and a Ribbon goes a long way if you want to make it out alive. :P

  And on the topic of melee weapons, they can still work quite well on weak mode, you just need to put a lot of investment into their strength stat to make the most of it. Monk paired with Knight works really well as an all rounded melee user, you have plenty of health and access to a shield+Kartaka if you're dealing with a lot of mobs or you can use a Pole/Excalibur + Genji Gloves for DPS. Monk can also learn some of the better white magic spells, but sadly in weak mode if you're not a mage-type class you'll have very little MP and a horrible magic stat to work with, so it's not something I'd rely on.

  Yeah, I've never really bothered with Holy or Flare or Shock in FF12, they're better than they were on the Ps2 version thanks to the damage cap getting lifted, but they're so painfully slow to cast and the fact they're single target spells really doesn't help either. Ardor, Scathe and the elemental -ga spells are extremely satisfying to use in the Zodiac age though, I love seeing those massive AoE nukes in action. :)

  @@jamiehunt2306As counter-intuitive as it may seem, make sure that you do NOT have all of your party members absorbing Dark with either Black Mask or Demon Shield. This makes Zodiark use Darkja more often, in place of Banish Ray. Otherwise Shell is your best friend like DK said.

  They didn't give the guests a fixed amount of HP because they're set to always be slightly higher level than your party when they first join you. Someone that takes the time to hit lv99 or get close enough to it before a guest joins will see that guest also be lv99. I've literally seen a lv60+ reddas one time cause I tried to get every esper I could before the pharos, which is literally all the available ones at the time including zodiark on the original ff12 (which did let you get ultima right after clearing the great crystal the first time).

  The real problem is that guests don’t have license boards, so they don’t have +HP augments, and you can’t change their equipment, so you can’t really even attempt to salvage them. Even in a normal game, leveled appropriately, they can be quite lacking aside from being a meat shield.

  “By turning your back on their stones, you give us free hand to write our own history.” Cid is basically thanking Ashe for not accepting the Occuria’s magicite. This means humanity is in charge of its fate, not an almighty god. “But, Milady. I would have you stay your Occurian sword. The Sun-Cryst is glutted with Mist, and so precious a thing must not be squandered.” Cid is telling Ashe not to use the Treaty Blade on the Sun-Cryst because it’s overflowing with Mist, and doesn’t want it to go to waste. “Shards of Nethicite! Cocoon of the Sun-Cryst! Spill forth your Mist upon this Ivalice! Let sea and sky be awash in it, that Bahamut may come and drink his fill!” With the nethicite he made, Cid is tampering with the Sun-Cryst so that it can unleash so much Mist to give Sky Fortress Bahamut the fuel it needs to operate. “And lo! How brightly burned their lanthorn! Casts it back the shadow of Occurian design! Testament that Man’s history shall be his alone!” Lanthorn is a VERY old way of saying lantern, which is what Cid compares his nethicite to. He’s also saying that Occuria don’t rule Ivalice anymore, and mankind will live without them. “On whose shoulders better to stand than those of the would-be gods!” Yeah, this is Cid declaring his God complex, saying he’d be better than the Occuria. “Ah, such high hopes I once had…but you ran, and ran, and they with you! Alas, the hour of your return is late.” In other words, Cid is saying “I’m disappointed in you, my son”. And Ffamran is Balthier’s birth name. That’s all. This was fun to write up. 😅

  I actually think it’s that Cid doesn’t want Ashe to destroy the Sun-Cryst with the Sword of Kings, as Reddas ends up doing, even though that doesn’t matter ultimately because the power explodes out and is able to power the Bahamut anyway. Though I guess Ashe using the Treaty-Blade to cut some shards of her own would also take away some of the Sun-Cryst’s power, the game makes it pretty clear that the Sword of Kings destroys nethicite earlier in the game. Though also, Raithwall did use the Sword of Kings to cut the three shards Dawn/Midlight/Dusk, so in theory, I guess both swords could potentially have the same powers, I’m not completely sure myself, it I’m being honest. The game contradicts itself.

  I don't think Ashe was saying she wouldn't commit to vengeance herself, only that it would be out of character for her late husband, and that she therefore knew he was illusory.

  Bit late now, since you’re done with guests, but another way you can deal with them is by designating each party member to only revive one other party member, in a sort of a loop. For example, Fran has Ally: Ashe -> Phoenix Down, Ashe has Ally: Penelo -> Arise, and Penelo has Ally: Fran -> Raise. This way, when your guest dies, no one picks them back up, and so none of your other gambits will have to worry about them. Maybe something to keep in mind for future playthroughs.

  The reason Cid hates Gabranth’s guts is because Larsa specifically ordered Gabranth to meet with Ashe and co. diplomatically and…y’know, NOT attack them. And Gabranth gave Larsa and the Emperor his word. Larsa is trying to resolve the war peacefully, but Gabranth hates his twin so much that he ends up attacking the party out of blind rage. The moment Gabranth drew his weapons was the moment he went back of his word, hence why Cid shamed him for his actions.

  @@Darkkefka For Cid, he cares more about his research than anything else. If it means studying magicite, the Occuria and creating a better stone for humankind, then he’s fine with starting a war. Dalmasca is just unfortunate collateral damage. Vaan just wants vengeance for Reks’ death, but like Ashe, ultimately decides against it since it won’t bring Reks back and it’ll just continue a painful and depressing cycle. And Cid technically is high ranking, yes. Not sure if he’s ranked highly enough to appoint people as Judges or Judge Magisters. But from what he said to Balthier (“alas, the hour of your return is late”, as in it’s too late for Balthier to become the Judge Magister Cid hoped for him to be and for father and son to make amends), I can see him having that kind of authority.

  @@Darkkefka Vayne, I assume you meant not Vaan, sees the war as a means to an end for Cid’s research. He wants to goad Ashe into conflict, or at least wishes she will seek vengeance. He also doesn’t want Larsa to have to dirty his own hands. The order that Vayne gave Gabranth was to monitor her and maybe provoke her if she hesitates, but as was mentioned, his spite for Basch made him go too far and straight up attack them. Meanwhile, Larsa wants to avoid the war at all costs, and Drace in her dying wish also asked Gabranth to look after Larsa, so there’s conflicting ideals at stake here. Thankfully, by the end, Gabranth is able to redeem himself, though it does cost his life. Balthier says at the Phon Coast that his father made him a Judge, so he either has the power or influence to make that happen. But Balthier left that life behind, which of course disappoints Cid. But he still attacks because Ashe isn’t willing to go along with what he wants to happen, to stall for time while the Sun-Cryst absorbs more power. Kind of like how in DBZ Babidi uses Vegeta and Goku fighting to revive Majin Buu.

  You know the worst part about Virus? Unlike basically all the other status effects in 9, it's not immediately noticeable, so I've had to go into my items just to check if anyone has it.

  I think I mentioned this during your last Zodiac Age playthrough, but about the soundtrack, I dunno. I love Flash of Steel, but I am one of the people who did feel like the reused music in some zones felt kinda lazy, so among others, I did appreciate them giving the third ascent of Pharos its own theme song with The Ultimate Trial. As for Mallets, you get one for free from Montblanc for killing King Bomb, so you only need one. Instead of trying to get Purobolos to drop it, you can just steal one from the rare game Bombshell in the Lhusu Mines, that’s what I usually do. Opal Ring always goes on my Black Mage for the reason you just experienced. Ignore Reflect is amazing. I don’t think you need Half MP Cost when you’re restoring your MP when you deal damage and kill things anyway, even on Weak Mode.

  For the Doctor Cid and Famfrit fight, "Foe: highest max HP / Attack" is an excellent gambit to use on your attackers. Famfrit can also be hit with Oil, so Firaga and Wyrmfire Shot should make short work of that Esper once Oil is applied.

  If you want to kick ass in the second part of the Pharos, I HIGHLY recommend you pick up Dispelga if you haven't already. Bunes with Bravery will squash you flat especially in the Subterra, and you may have to fight 3-4 of them at once - with Level 55 Necrofiends rising from their corpses. Putting Haste on Penelo in tandem with Bravery and Berserk is also essential, so Hastega is a really good idea too. And for the love of all that's good, PLEASE make sure you get Excalibur for the endgame Necrofiends, since they resist gun fire and have a lot of HP.

  Reflect enemies is the reason why I try to have the accessory that bypasses reflect. I don't want to take the time trying to dispel them all, especially if it's on weak mode. i forgot where to get it, but I think some frogs had it.

  There’s several ways to get Opal Ring. You can sell 2 Frogspawn to the Bazaar to be able to buy one, that’s what you’re probably thinking of, but you can also buy one from the Phon Coast Hunt Club after turning in 10 trophies to Stok, then there’s two free ones in chests, one in Nabreus Deadlands and one in Pharos that DK picked up last episode.

  The Whale Whisker (or whatever it's called in this version) packs a punch even in Weak Mode, I ran a Monk/Knight for my main melee damage dealer and bankup tank (Balthier) and he absolutely shredded things with Grand armour, Grand helm and Genji Gloves. Otherwise If i wanted him to be more of a tank I'd swap the Grand helm for a renewing Morian/Duelling Mask and the Pole for a Demon Shield and Kartaka to help stun lock mobs.

  That stone thing reminded me of my previous comment, and I happened to find the vid of that trial floor 100 no damage run in weak mode. That vid had basch tank gabranth's attacks a 0 damage each with basch under stone, slow, and stop apparently. and this is after they picked off the other judges using reflect on the party and bouncing magic at the judges to avoid aggro. Search "final fantasy 12 weak mode trial 100" if you want to find it. But the vid calls it "new game minus".

  Easy choice for me: using Death in 15, if not just the Ring of the Lucii in its entirety. It's long range, and it slows down its target, provided the enemy doesn't get immediately deleted, and that applies to most enemies and even bosses! Sure, proportionally drains Noctis's MP at about 5% A second, but the fight will likely end before that becomes a problem. Did I forget to mention that it restores half of his HP upon the kill? It's so busted, I often actively refrain from using it because I actually get TIRED of winning so quickly, and I love being cheap!

  Blowing into the analog usually fixes the drift for a time. The stick drifting drives me insane, and there's apparently only temporary fixes.

  Never used a ps5 controller yet, but i've been through a dozen ps4 controllers for the same damn problem. starts to drift like crazy until eventually it gets deadzones where certain angles won't work at all. been thinking about getting the dualsense edge, its expensive initially but at least the sticks come out and you can replace them for 15 dollars

  They don't make game controllers like they used to anymore. The older ones could last forever as long as you never flung them across the room or spilled food on them. It's crazy that they want 70 bucks or more for an official controller only for people to report stick drift a few months later. I guess it's a matter of luck, too. Because I've been using this 3rd party Switch controller for several years now and never experienced real stick drift. I only recently replaced it because whenever I need to press in the stick, half the time it doesn't work. The controller I purchased has this hall effect feature I've only recently found out about. Supposedly, hall effect controllers have less chance of stick drift, and they last longer because of it. Idk myself because this stuff is still new to me, but I think it might be worth giving it a try.

  I know it is “boring” as you say, but the only way that Holy is the best move for Ashe is when the enemy isn’t weak to Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, or Dark AND is weak to Holy. If the enemy isn’t weak to Holy, then you’re better of with normal ammunition, and if it’s weak to one of those five elements, then easily use one of those elemental shots to target the weakness instead. Especially if you’re also putting Ashe under Berserk. The Holy spell is just not good. But the sad part? Gil Toss is actually better than Holy even when the enemy is weak to Holy. Yes, that does require you to have money, but it’s just ludicrously strong in Weak Mode lol

  reddas usually would usually be a pretty good character if you could get the aggro off him and get him to critical HP and berserked, kinda like a yiazmat tactic with another character decoyed cause he still does a lot of damage with combos even for weak mode for bosses I think

  Number 1: The Gatcha System - Final Fantasy All the Bravest. Just about anything from that trash ass mobile game could have easily made the list. All you do is swipe your finger across the screen and all your army does is bonk the enemy to do incremental damage, but they can easily wipe them out cause your army is a bunch of pussies. And that's TOOOOOOTALLY not cause they wanted to make you pay to resurrect them lest you have to wait 3 minutes per defeated character for them to recover. But at least you can buy beloved Final Fantasy legacy characters like Cloud and Tidus... oh wait, did I say "buy?" Here is the thing... you can spend a dollar to get legacy characters... RANDOMLY!!! You don't get to pick who you get, it was fucking gambling! It couldn't be more blatant why they did this because you had to purchase the app up front. The only silver lining is that it was eventually pulled, but let it stand with the Battlefront 2 Reboot and Dungeon Keeper Mobile as some of the most morally bankrupt spinoffs ever made.

  @@Darkkefka Just watched it and it was hilarious XD. Personally, I like Tifa the best (especially after seeing her in Rebirth). I also happen to like Lightning (particularly in LR), Fran, Terra, Ashe, Aranea and Vanille a lot. (Yes, I like Vanille, believe it or not. I don't listen to the haters.) Out of curiosity, have you played XVI? There's a girl in that game called Jill who is your companion throughout most of the game and she's gorgeous. There are some girls I have to say no to. For example, I like Lulu a lot, but I wouldn't want to anger Wakka. Rosa is gorgeous too, but I'd make enemies out of Cecil and Kain.

  A weapon that I've only recently discovered to be crazy busted is the Masamune from FF9. What makes it so powerful is Zidane's skill, Soul Blade, which inflicts the targeted enemy with the status effect corresponding to whatever thief sword he has equipped (it doesn't work if he's equipped with regular daggers), and the Masamune has Doom, which will kill the target within 10 seconds, which in FF9's speed, is honestly pretty fast. Did I also mention that the status effect is guaranteed to land unless the enemy is outright immune to it? An honorable mention goes to the Sargatanas, which have a similar case except it inflicts Petrify instead of Doom, but you won't get EXP or a kill for that.
