    Just found your channel and I've already watched four or five of your videos fantastic work! I really needed this motivation too! Can I ask you how many days in advance can I make the mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner and then just microwave them? Is that against the rules?

  • @TheWineSisters
    @TheWineSisters8 ай бұрын

    OMG, you are so sweet. Thank you for the kind words and I'm so happy to have you here! For mashed potatoes I personally prefer to make them while the resting. However, you can make them in advance. When it's time to reheat, put the mashed in a saucepan over med-low heat, with a splash more milk/cream and a dollop of butter. Cover and gently cook until they're back to being smooth and creamy. Other TDay items that hold up well to advanced prep: any baked goods that can be frozen (pies, cookies, rolls etc.), soups (freeze for a week or two or keep in the fridge for a few days), salads and veg sides (make the dressing a day before, and chop all the veg the day before), assemble casseroles and either freeze for a few weeks, or assemble the day before and store in the fridge overnight. I hope this helps! We'll have a lot more ideas for Christmas dinner coming up in the next few weeks so stay tuned! 🥂 Erin

    Isn’t the making of orange wine essentially how to produce rose wine

  • @TheWineSisters
    @TheWineSisters9 ай бұрын

    sort of! Orange wine is simply skin-contact white wine. Normally, white wines don't require any contact with the skins, because, well, they're white. Red and rosé wines get their colour from the skins soaking with the skins for a little or long time. When white grapes are left with their skins, there's a reaction that turns the clear juice turns orange. Hope that helps! 🥂 Erin

    Correct me if I’m wrong…. But isn’t that a wine glass 🍷 not a sparkling wine 🥂 glass?

  • @TheWineSisters
    @TheWineSisters10 ай бұрын

    Good eye, Ally! You're absolutely correct! A lot of sommeliers and restaurants now prefer to pour bubbly into wider bowl (ie: regular wine) glasses. The reason being is that it allows you to appreciate the aromas better than a narrow flute will allow. This video was taken right before a sparkling wine class that I teach at a College in Toronto and this is the glass we use for wine appreciation. However, for my home entertaining, I must admit I love the stylish look of a nice flute. Cheers! 🥂 Erin

    I need to know which mayo you are using! I have spent so much money on good quality organic brands, but there's always that weird aftertaste. I'm accustomed to the beautifully neutral, albeit unhealthy, Hellmann's.

  • @TheWineSisters
    @TheWineSisters Жыл бұрын

    In this particular video I'm actually using Hellmann's! Though don't tell anyone, but I've found really good luck with vegan mayo - taste, texture the whole bit. But if you love Hellmann's, then stick with it! There's no point in forcing yourself to use something you don't like. Life's too short :) Best of luck and let me know how it turns out! 🥂 Erin

    What wine is best with turkey and dressing and a sweet glazed ham where sage is the prime flavouring of the turkey and dressing?

  • @TheWineSisters
    @TheWineSisters Жыл бұрын

    Hi Dianne - great question! I'm guessing by "dressing" you mean a bread-based stuffing (that's what we call it here, even if it's not actually "stuffed" in the turkey.) In this case, look to the strongest flavours, that's likely going to be the spices of sage that you mentioned, and maybe some celery and onion etc. Consider an earthy Pinot Noir from Oregon or California; it's bright red fruit will liven up the turkey (like cranberry sauce) and its spice flavour will compliment the dressing. As for the glazed ham, which has a deliciously sweet coating but salty meat, Riesling works really nicely here as you will need a wine slightly sweeter than the food, otherwise it could taste bitter. If you only want one wine for both the turkey and the ham, go with Riesling. Let me know how it goes! - Erin
