Sad to think of Siegfried Herford climbing here in 1914 before dying in the horror of the Western Front. What a talent was lost.

Thanks for the video, it takes me back to my youth, late 1950’s and 60’s climbing in Borrowdale with the York MC.

What a great clip, beautifully shot and amazing skills to make it look so effortless. I can’t understand how it has some dislikes. !!!

It’s a better ride the other way round. The rocky path you rode up is an exhilarating descent. Whereas the grassy side is a bit plain.

Did CB as it is still known in 1966. We had a head on car crash outside of Ambleside, Carried on and Bivvied in Eskdale. Did CB in big mountain boots and "rubbers" black soled tennis shoes. The dieback on the second pitch would still be scary.

One of the best climbs in the lakes. I was fortunate to see an outward bound instructor climb this in boxing gloves and roller skates in 1979/80

Would be a nice route if it wasn't for all the bleeding polish. You've just got to be light on your feet and keep moving rather than faffing about placing gear.

OMG I feel physically sick watching this... especially when he goes up the hard way. I cant believe its actually possible. What really freaks me is that the top rock looks like its balanced on th needle and could roll off at any second. I m sure one day it will. Would nt want to be taking the hard route then!! Great vid. Better than a horror movie for cowards like me who like both feet on the ground.

If that makes you sweat, consider for a moment that that climb was first made in 1886 by a guy named Walter Parry Haskett-Smith - and he had no modern sticky climbing shoes, no helmet, and didn't even use a rope.

Alain Robert is an excellent climber, but what he does is very different to nearly any other climber so you cant really compare them or say he is better. And in response to Napes needle being dangerous, hundreds of people climb up it each year and it and have been since it was first climbed 1886 and it has not fallen off nor will it in the future. I suppose its the anonymity of the internet that lets you make such comments

´probably the "The French spiderman is the best climber in the world. No-one else can do what he does. No-one." and the "irresponsible" part, pretty fucking retarded.

The cameramen in these situations are generally suspended from fixed ropes and abseil off the top rather than climbing up from the bottom. Yes you take all the equipment home and also have to carry it all the way up to the crag, which can be quite strenuous.
