I am 54 years old and I am telling you that you have figured it out. I spent a lot of my early years as a "yes man". To the point at like 27 years old I wondered to myself if I had ever said no about anything. Always agreeing. Always willing. And it dawned on me that I had just as many people that didn't like me as one of my co workers who was a real asshole. At that point, I admit, I went a little too far the other way. I guess I was making up for lost time. Then I realized around 40 years old that I had completely adapted to satisfying my own sense of balance. I was reacting to others completely honestly. I no longer skewed my perception to align with others. I was shocked at how much that honestly helped with my overall mental health. It really does minimize stress not having to falsely represent yourself. I guess what I am trying to say through all this rambling is, good for you. If more people in this world could realize what you have realized, the world would be so much better off.
