    In a way, I must hand it to you, as this is - stretching out the short - but AMAZING - crash landing, of the Jupiter 2. The only down-side is the end. It's very abrupt, and, as we all know, After the J2 cleared the peaks, it's guidance system (crash) landed it it, after (cascading down what was Red Rock Canyon), the peals on it's way into the planet's soil.

    Does anybody else remember the “Space Family Robinson” comic series? An independent (earlier?) instance of the same idea, “Swiss Family Robinson“ surviving in space. Only their spacecraft looked like this: vimeo.com/143551882

    Normally I am loathe to see any so-called re-imaginings of classic TV series or films however most of Irwin Allen's offerings would certainly benefit from today's CG advancements. His story telling was campy but compelling and I believe shows like 'Voyage', Land Of The Giants' and 'Time Tunnel' (if they stuck to the same themes and not preach), would capture a new crowd of younger viewers. BTW, great sim.

    Ah, the beloved theremin. What would an episode of LIS be like without its ominous forebodings of some sinister event. One could feel the tension of that moment in the existence of our seemingly hapless castaways.

    4:35 John Williams like using the same incidental music when one of the castaways was being chased by monster or when aliens engaged the men in combat.

    LIS definitely had to be one of the watermarks in John Williams' career. Can still remember as a kid the hair standing on the back of the neck when the incidental music played. Mr Williams should have been nominated for an Emmy and a Grammy. He's just that brilliant. Thanks to Pendercrafts

    First time for me to see the Flying Sub take off from a runway. Just because I haven't seen this, doesn't make it untrue. I just have always seen the FS coming outta the belly of the Seaview,

    A pleasant speculation however based on current technology it is safe to say that the Jupiter 2 was not only the first interstella spacecraft it also incorporated VLAT (verical landing and take-off).

  • @ImTheDaveman

    Considering what you had to work with, I think you did an AWESOME job of this! It would be easy for someone to nit pick this to death, but man, this is very creative work on your part and dare anyone to do any better given the same set of circumstances! I'd love to see a remake - and while I could tolerate "some" sprucing up of the Jupiter 2 and Robot, I think the Movie went too far. The ship could be bigger to allow for a realistic 2 to 3 lower decks, etc. I have animation software that is rather limiting otherwise I would love to do a Fan Film or a variation based on Lost in Space. *THUMBS UP* for a amazing creativity!

    Why did you say that, as VTOL was not shown in this video? Maybe your thinking of STOL(Short Take and Landing) which was shown.

    This was an an older J-2 model that was made around 2004. No VTOL capability in the flight simulator at that time. The Goddard model has full VTOL capability and takes off/lands like the series J-2 did.

  • @UNOwen1
    @UNOwen110 жыл бұрын

    Cute. Admire anyone who loves LiS. Question: why do you have the Jupiter 2 land on a runway -- like a plane? While J2 HAS come careening through atmospheres and has (sorta) landed like that, it's a VTOL craft.

    Opportunity LOST. What should have happened?? Major Don West gets the Jupiter 2 back to Earth, where it lands upon a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean. Where they are met by 7 stranded castaways. I can here the Robot now. "Warning!! Warning!! Warning!! Gilligan approaching!! Then, Gilligan sneaks aboard the Jupiter 2 and then??. In the very last scene of the program, as well as the series, the Jupiter 2 takes off. Leaving the Space Family Robinson stranded with the 7 stranded castaways.

    I'm like rikcab, LIS was my fav sci fi until Trek reruns came to my area in syndication. You did do a good job with this. Technically though, The Jupiter Two was a VTL vehicle. It's kind of incongruous with logic to see it's wheel-less landing pods employed in a runway landing. But, you know what. It's still fun. Back in the '80's I read about how personal computers would enable multitudes of people to make their own film stories. We are there. Good job!

    Who would people cast in a remake? One may be possible, but I think today's actors are cut from a different "cloth" if you will. All of television is missing the sometime "home movie quality" of these early shows! I believe dramas can be shot for the small screen but still have a big screen "feel" to them. The first Star Wars movie did this in some of its establishing shots with Luke looking out over a vast terrain, and the TV westerns did also with transition scenes panning across landscapes.

  • @DennisCosteaJr

    Thanks for creating this work! Like so many of the others, I also believe it is a wonderful tribute. The original LIS television series, although often campy and silly, also had many tender moments and really great action sequences for its time. Many shows that came afterwards were derivative and tried to achieve the same appeal but fell short. Star Trek, TOS, also achieved this in many episodes. Transitions between scenes and story elements just worked; everything fit. Most modern shows miss it
