Eggs the Engineer

Eggs the Engineer

Hello World! Welcome to my channel - I'm an American Chemical Engineer of about 8 years practice, who loves to discuss all things engineering - I believe in making very informative videos that answer all the questions (there were a lot of questions) that I once had before starting this career. I want to be part of a positive community, that focuses on all the awesome opportunities that engineers have to make a difference in the world today. This is a place to learn and grow with each other no matter where you are in your career journey. If that's something you're interested in, please subscribe and join the community!

I started as a machine operator 18 years ago...then was trained inhouse as die setter....from there I went to tier 2 die setter making around 50k ...I then became a start up tech working with the process techs after completing my pulsen class I was certified as process tech...I make about 68 - 70k a year depending on year I made 73 last year....I love my job I look forward to going to work because they depend on me two get things going .....also in my area there not many 2 shot process techs so that makes me very valuable..

Im starting to feel that chemical engineering would be a waste of my potential. This sounds way too trival for me. Thats disapointing.

Amazing insights! As someone who was working in operations but is now going into a process engineering role, it’s really cool to learn the slight difference and focus areas between ops and engineering! Well done on the amazing content!!

He seems to be describing a support role. I was under impressions with chemical engineering degree, I could start as operation supervisor at an oil/gas refinery and work my way up to Site Manager of the refinery…or are those roles reserved more for business majors?

My presidential endorsers brother in law is a process engineer. I have obsessive compulsive disorder which means im illogical. Thats why peter tells me to leave the school and suggests the company fire me. Peter thinks i am too stupid to understand hes making fun of me. Peter thinks he is smarter than i am. Peter teaches God in his reaction engineering class. Peter believes God punishes people who do wrong algebra. Peters obesity is in conflict with the teaching of christianity that gluttony is a sin. This shows that peter is a hypocritical christian. Peter believes the school is persecuting him for the word of God and that God requires him to fail certain students.

Oh man, I think remote work is going to become more and more common and many of the hurdles you mentioned will be greatly diminished. Many of the hurdles are from people perceiving remote work as unable to do _____ and I think people will find you can do much more than a lot of older/old-school-thinking people think at the moment. I'm glad you didn't talk about the bullshit reason I hear all the time, that "remote employees are just less efficient and get less done." Fuck that. I'm about x2 more effective working remotely on the days when I work from home at my current EPC Process Engineer job. I could easily do my job fully remote and travel very occasionally (1 week/year) to client sites, and I know that especially because 1/3 of the team I am on is fully remote already. Yeah......I can't wait for the culture to shift and companies to realize remote work is awesome for them to save money and for the employees.

It is for a college homework I was assigned that consists in a short survey about being a chemical engineer. Tell me if you're interested and I'll talk to you through the mail addressed in your channel! Thanks!

This is hindsight for me, but I would have applied for a lab tech(contractor) position right after graduating, gotten foot in the door and then either tried to become a supervisor within this plant on the floor, stayed in the lab, or applied for engineering roles. You probably have a chance of going to supervisor doing a good job and then launching to an engineer role. The point being you'll probably need to take a low paying lab tech role, to then have a chance at an okay salary as a supervisor gain experience and then launch to engineering. At all points you can and should be applying for roles that you want, but you are doing this to gain experience while you are chasing your real dream jobs...

When I first started watching your videos, it was about a year ago. I was new to a marketing job helping scientists and engineers use statistics to improve R&D and production. The learning curve to actually knowing what an engineer does in their day-to-day work and what are the realities of their life, career, and wants was steep. You helped me learn what engineers care about and how they see themselves and their roles so that I better understood my customers. I’m so excited you’re back and ready to learn more!

Hi, Chemical Engineer. A question: Do multi-vitamins and cosmetics sold in those dollar stores carry the same grade of quality as the same ones sold in major supermarkets? The packagings and manufacturer addresses printed at the back are exactly the same. And made in USA according to the manufacturing address.

Eggs? What kind of name is that? Chemical Engineering is 90% heat and material balances, fluid mechanics, equipment and instrument sizing. You’ll need to be good at thinking and conceptualising systems. Chemistry? You won’t do a lot of that. In fact, apart from basic stoichiometry and some reaction kinetics you hardly do any chemistry.
