  Reminds me of the first bass I played. I borrowed it so I could join/form a garage band.Same colour, same logo on the body. The drummer, a close friend, got me a great deal on a later model straight out of the distributor’s showroom. It was already set up properly, sounded great and was black. Thanks for posting this

  Nice playing! Im thinking of buying one of these used locally. Can you give me your opinion on it please? How does it compare to the likes of Sire V5, G&L Tribute JB/JB2, Squier CV and others in that price range? Thanks 👍

  History is the 'store brand,' for Shimamura Gakki, the largest musical instrument retailer in Japan. The History sell new starting at about $600 all the way up to past $3000 for one of the ones made with exotic woods and fancy pickups. They're all made by Fujigen in the same factory that used to crank out Fender Japan guitars and basses until the mid-1990's. A $600 entry level History bass is going to be comparable to a US Highway-1 Fender in fit and finish. On the used market, you can pick up a History bass here in Japan for between $220-350 USD for a used entry-level model. These basses are almost exactly the same spec as the entry level FGN basses and the now discontinued CoolZ series of bases that Fujigen also made for Shimamura. In fact, an entry level FGN is indistinguishable from an entry level History or CoolZ model aside from the headstock label--they literally come off the same assembly line and get a different sticker. SInce being discontinued, the CoolZ basses tend to be the best cost performance, and can often be found for around $200-250 on the used market (in mid 2021). These are much better basses in general than Chinese and Indonesian made basses from other brands. If you didn't look at the headstock, you'd have a hard time telling the difference between an FGN/History/CoolZ (and newer MIJ Greco basses in the same price range) and a new USA made Fender bass.

  The bass you are referring to is the Joe Dirt Ernie Ball music man stingray.

  The bass he used was a Carlo Robelli. They can be found for sale from time to time. About an 8th of the price of the overpriced MM.
