Rossies Go Roaming

Rossies Go Roaming

Hi - we are Callum & Jan. We both gave up work a couple of years ago to take the opportunity to travel while we have our health and (relative!) fitness. We have spent 10 weeks touring Europe by car, 10 weeks in Thailand and walked the Inca Trail and backpacked round Peru and Colombia for 8 weeks (we did Blogs on these trips - mainly for family - but if you are interested or think they may be useful they are on RossiesGoRoaming .wordpress.com.
We watched lots of great VLOGs while planning our current trip to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia - so decided to give this a go!

    Great video, thank you! My daughter, who will be exactly 10.5yo at the time, and I will be in PP later this year. S21 is on my list, but, seeing your video, I'm second guessing. Do you think she'd be ok? I really would like her to experience the history, and the lessons that come for this, she's a pretty strong kid (not the type to have nightmares from "scary" things), but curious if you think it would be ok? I did the War Museum (pre-parenthood) in Ho Chi Minh City and it had a profound effect on me, I was in tears. Maybe I get the audio for S21 and explain it to her, rather than her having her own audio?

  • @RossiesGoRoaming
    @RossiesGoRoamingАй бұрын

    Yes, think she would be fine. Saw quite a few children her age there - just having the audio yourself and explaining it a great idea as you can the filter it appropriately.

    Yes, you are Rossies, but accent English!. Nice video. The first time I visited this place in 1974 I sat there and wondered where the descendants of creators have gone as these appear unique. No doubt Alexander the Great knew where he was heading for. The story goes that the children of king Porus (or Paurusha, his ally) came to Sri Lanka and established colonies.

    Hi Rossies Go Roaming, The reason that I like to support your channel - is not because you're doing a series in and on Sri Lanka, but it's merely because people should encourage each other by supporting each other in the form of subscribing to their KZread channels, commenting, liking and sharing the video; that's how we should go about engaging on social media. Not that, what you guys are doing absolutely amazing; traveling the country in a tuk tuk, that journey in itself is brilliant to say the least. I wish you guys all the best and stay safe!

    Thanks for the breakdown and tips, will look at LV for our next trip. Our overall spend for two months was £105 a day for Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. How do you get around having an unoccupied house for so long with insurance companies? Watching your Sri Lanka videos now as our plan, (plus Kerala) for next Feb/March. Oh and we paid £2 for a bus from Heathrow to Hertfordshire. 😁

    The first couple of long trips we used Trusted House sitters as we had an old cat (they get to stay for free, but looks after house and pets - good system!). Last one we informed insurance and as long as heating on to above 10 and someone checking once a week it was ok (small premium). Sri Lanka was brilliant - we're definitely going back at some point to do the N and E coasts.

    You were unlucky with the timings of the tide, the beach stretches all the way to the temple you visited, but the north side (opposite side) you accessed it from. The beach would normally be about 200/250 yards from sea to the sea walls. There are other bar areas as well, Soi 80 and then Soi 94 which has some nice bars and restaurants on the soi’s off it. There’s a night market 7 nights a week that runs off the main road on Soi 72. Also two “touristy” markets at the weekend in Khao Takiab at the southern end of Hua Hin. You also have Baan Kuhn Por which is a huge nightly food court on Soi 88, near the new train station which is well worth a visit. Re the yellow shirts for Father’s Day, it was the anniversary of the previous Kings passing and his favourite colour was Yellow hence the shirts. Traditionally a lot of Thai’s wear the colour yellow on Mondays in respect to him. I’ve lived in Hua Hin for over two years and visiting since 2010, love the place. If you visit again and travel by train you’ll arrive at the new station which is about 100/150 yards from the old one and should take 3 to 3.30 hours with a time of 3 hours eventually. Nice video and good luck for the future with the channel 👍🏻

    Just found your travel channel by chance and have Subscribed. Curious as to the park prices for Thais at this national park. Did not see it listed. When starting your hike there is a village below in the bay. Is that part of the national park? What day of the week were you there and were there many foreigners? Does Sam Loy Yot have a town itself with resorts?

  • @RossiesGoRoaming
    @RossiesGoRoaming6 ай бұрын

    Hi! Thanks for subscribing. Entry to the park as with most National Parks is free for Thais. The village at the bottom is outside of the park. I didn't notice any hotels or resorts, we were staying at the Kuiburi Resort about 30 mins S on the coast (we were the only guests in the whole hotel!). It was a Thursday that we visited 🙂

    @@RossiesGoRoaming There is often a fee for Thais also often hidden in Thai numbers. One of the few things I can read in Thai. Hit and miss myself be able to enter with a Thai I.D card. More often than not I often refuse to pay more having Thai family here. But in this case if there are very few people there I might be willing. In my experience the extra fee was not worth it. My hunch is the village below as somewhere to stay. How much was the resort in Kui Buri?
