The land was part of the Hukerenui Purchase in 1873 of 19,500 acres, a willing sale to the Crown as allowed for in the second part of the second Clause of the Treaty. The Hukerenui Block was subsequently subdivided by the Crown, with the school land, block 101, set aside as a school site. See Turtons Deeds No 60, and cadastral map for 1939 on Maps Past. The protestors are simply failing to honour the acts of their ancestors and ignoring private property rights in illegally occupying the land. Obviously the man is innocent. He was an innocent family man who was the manager of the firm he worked for and was a regular church attendee all his life until his unfortunate scrape with the law where they fabricated ALL the so called evidence to frame this poor innocent man. Pay no attention to the fact that he was jailed when younger for killing his hooker 'girlfriend' by bashing her head in with the butt of a rifle and got it down to manslaughter and only a 3 year jailing, he TOLD us he is innocent and I looked when he promised and he did not have his fingers crossed behind his back so he was OBVIOUSLY truthful and speaking from his award winning, kind heart. It is surprising that he has yet to sue the Police and Govt for wrongful arrest and depriving him of 15 years of his scandalous existence. I saw it tonight, and I was the only person in the cinema. It has some funny bits.
As the trial progressed, I began to have doubts about Tamihere’s guilt (I don’t remember why). So I was not surprised some of the case against him fell apart. I’m not 100% believing he is innocent, though I did hope he wouldn’t be convicted. Anyway, this is another case to show prison snitch testimony is too unreliable and risky. If you ask me, it should be made inadmissible in court.
