    Thanks for posting the video. I have a 2008. It drives fine, then once it heats up, suddenly it stalls 6-8 times before I can limp home. Just after going 1 mile down the road. It's like it psychically knows when I'm in heavy traffic, and stops in the middle of the intersection. I've been fixing it up over 6 mths now, as I get a little money here and there, and then the stalling thing started. Man, I feel like this is not a dependable car. You wouldn't want to go on a road trip in it. You don't know if you walking back. Thanks for the video. More stuff to look into.

    Electricity is simple and complicated. You can burn up your motor or burn down your house. Breakers are supposed to trip but sometimes fail. Shorts and loose connections can cause fires. The color of wire is a good rule of thumb, except if the guy before you used the wrong color or didn’t know what he was doing. It’s like the law, you can do this, but not here and not under this circumstance. There’s a big thick electrical code book that you have to learn and pass a test to become a journeyman, plus four years of experience. It looks like you wired the time clock for 240v. The red and black were both hot wires and the green is the ground. A lot of times a 240v doesn’t have a neutral, but sometimes times it does. Example would be a dryer plug, you might have a three prong, which is two hots and and a ground or you can have a four prong plug which has two hots and a neutral and a ground. White is usually a neutral, which is a grounding wire, but that doesn’t mean you might not come across a white wire that’s a hot wire. The house I’m in now, I had to reverse the wires on seven house plugs because they were wired backwards. There’s a lot of people wiring things up and flipping the breaker on. Just because it works doesn’t mean it was done correctly. It’s one of those things that are a lot more complicated than it looks. There’s a lot to learn to become an electrician. I’m not trying to criticize, just want people to understand this can be dangerous without the right training.

    You need to not trust that the car would be in good condition. I always inspect the car inside and out for any problems, like dents, smoke, etc. If any problems exist that can't be rectified do not drive it off the lot.

    The first thing I noticed right off is that the wiring is incorrect coloring. Black and red is use for 12 V systems. Black is hot and white is common for 120 or 240 systems.

    Change/flush radiator coolant every 3 years, regardless of miles.

  • @johnharrisonschulz
    @johnharrisonschulz10 ай бұрын

    This video helped me solve the problem with mine. I replaced the radiator and did a full coolant flush. The radiator was internally clogged. So I did a coolant flush to make sure there were no particles inside the heater core or the engine core. To flush the heater core, turn on the heater as your flushing the system. It's a bit more complicated than that but that's how you clear all the old crappy coolant out of the heater core.

    Well … is wish this was so easy on my side. I bought a new timer to replace the old timer and hooked it up exactly the same way .. I have it hooked up to an exterior lighting system .. and it worked to turn on the lights but would not work turning them off. I trouble shooter the system and determined I have a defective timer and reordered a replacement. I have only four wires coming from the panel which tells me the original wiring was done within the inside of the electrical panel and the wires to the timer is all I need so four wires and one of these is a ground. My wires are Hot (Orange), black (neutral), and gray (I have no idea).. not happy…a night in the dark.

    The way he explains it like he is hooking up a 120V setup when it fact its a 208-240V setup. There is no neutral here. I will clarify the terminology. This is a 240V hookup for the pump, or the middle diagram on the box door. There are two legs that each have 110 POWER, combining to make 240Vs. The BLACK AND RED are both 110V each. These are on different phases, thus adding up. There is a ground wire (green), but no neutral here at all (usually white). The RED wire on L1 supplies half the power to the motor, that spins dial, and half the power needed for the pump on terminal 5. When the switch turns on it will send that 110V power to TERMINAL #5, sending power from #1 straight to #5 is where one power goes in for the side going to the pump. This should be the RED wire going to the pump. He has the black one in the wrong spot. The red should be on Terminal #5. Black Wire coming in from the switch is the other half of the power for the motor, and other half for powering the pump, (the other 110V to make the 240V necessary). This is properly connected to TERMINAL 2. The jumper on 3 goes to the motor that tells the time (when 1 (Red) and 3 (black) connected, the motor for clock works). OBVIOUSLY #4 is left blank as stated on the middle diagram. When the switch comes on, it will send power from TERMINAL 2 to #6, completing the other half of the power needing to go to the pump. This will send the full 240V to the pump. He properly connected the ground without any issues, that is the green wire. On three phase motors, switching these wires, can be a very expensive mistake....just saying. **Please turn off all power, and be careful, because when he says neutral, some people might thing these are not hot, and safe to touch....which could zap and kill you.....just saying. This is why i took the time to explain it best i could without a video...Thanks, and be safe!***

    @@togui222000 I actually replaced the head gasket because it failed the combustion gas test in the coolant.This was after it over heated the first time.I test drove it then took it on a 75 mile trip. Thought I nailed it then about 5 miles from home it overheated again ! When I replaced the head gasket I also replaced the water pump. I also removed the guts from the thermostat to remove that as a cause. It improved but still over heated ! I did notice when I turned on the heater full blast it would improve enough to keep driving.Radiator is on its way Ill let you know how this mystery turns out . Thanks for your video !

    @@togui222000 Yes it was a clogged radiator!That must have caused the whole failure. It was clogged to the point where city driving was just too much for it ,got hot blew the head gasket and then leaked coolant in to the cylinder . I changed the head gasket not realizing I didnt repair the cause in the first place. I noticed a lot of rust scale at the bottom of my catch pan when I drained the coolant. That radiator must be original equitment.Hope this helps someone else with their Pt Cruiser. Thanks again !

    I’m in the same situation. It’s in 05 and I’ve had it since 09. I am really trying to figure out when to throw in the towel with this car because I’m always replacing something, it seems. So like as soon as it was paid off then everything went kaput!!lol. I replaced thermostat and over heating was still happening. About 145,000 miles on it so I took it to dealership who proceeded to run off a bunch of repairs totaling 6300 which is more than car is worth. When I asked if all the things were pressing apparently some were and some weren’t. He said radiator was cracked and I need to replace the fan to address thermostat light coming on-they want to charge 1500. Then replace head gasket, timing belt water pump, tensioner plus pulley, upper lower mount insulators, etc motor mount in frame rail. It’s my only transportation but I’m not able to buy another car right now but just to hold on to a car so you just keep pumping money in it even after the costs exceed value of car? Any insight from fellow owners or enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
