so this is how summer looks like ;) Here in the Netherlands we have lower temps (far lower then usual for all months) and heavy rains (far more then usual) since april ... so a wet and cold spring and extremely cold summer (looks like a late autumn) with 60% less sun .... and on top of that this year were getting visited by slugs ...slugs ....and yeey .. more slugs...followed by birds and fieldmice and deer... so 2024 isnt the best garden year here ;)

First, a question, what kind of gate latch is that? It looks useful and I haven't seen one like that before. Second: Chickens will eat or pulverize anything. Pulverizing it is just as useful as them eating it, because either way it ends up as compost. Third: To the other commenters, lol, if you don't like kale, try it this way.... Pull the leaves off the stems, bruise them by squeezing them in your hands really hard, then shred them into a hot pan with bacon grease. Add salt and pepper, and once they wilt a bit they should get more intensely colorful and then be done cooking. Don't overcook. They shouldn't be mushy. Bruising them makes them release sugars, and the sauté adds the bacon grease flavor. It's the only way I will eat kale because it's just too bitter to me otherwise. This works with most greens, by the way. Mustard, collards, etc. ~ a southern girl

I tried to eat kale twice. I gagged. I find it disgusting! Must be a aquired taste... We don't eat that over here in Flanders, we don't know it, and after trying, I certainly will not eat it again.

Not only are many foods processed, no one considers it plastic packaging that isn't food safe, i.e. your standard water bottle. If they these are exposed to the sun it will taint your food within. So, y'all are onto a good thing :-)

We moved into a smaller community on an acre lot, yes we started with 4 bantam chicken, then added so silkies in 2023. We now have 23 in all, and just added 4 Rhode island red baby chicks. We also started 5 small raised bed and one in ground bed, I'm learning from all of you, as my 2 chicken tractors, and building my deck from You tube. This fall I will be building as many raised beds as I can, they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Well I turned 62 this past April and I'm learning a lot from you and others thank you. Our food industry makes it cheaper to buy french-fries then fruit, in turns makes us sicker and more dependent on the pharma industry.

@@splitarrowfarm I raised them from just hatched. So that might make all the difference. They come when I call and go into the coop when it's time. They just need coaxing with some meal worms.

Why are you calling this a "butcher block"...? This is just a solid wooden countertop. A real butcher block is end grain.
