Hello! My name is Rachel and I'm an artist. I'm Canadian 🍁! I started this channel a long time ago and over the years my interests and the content has evolved. Even though some of my original videos are no longer visible I decided to keep my original channel name because it still remains true. Traveling is one of my passions. The other is art. Even though at this point art is the main feature of this channel, who knows how this will continue to evolve and grow. Thanks for coming along for the journey!

This helped me so much!!!! Thank you! I’ve been scouring the different descriptions because I normally have access to a more well stocked art store but haven’t where I am right now. So this helps tremendously. I love the work you showed, too. And your voice and demeanor. Thanks, again!
Glad it was helpful!
I missed your videos 😅 thanks for going on sharing this trip!
Thank you! 😊😊
very very helpful!!!!
Good to see you again !!!!
Thank you! 😄
So nice to see you back!
Thank you! Hoping to have a more regular schedule this summer ☺️
My favorite to use is the smooth Zeta, But, I wish it came in Ivory like the Delta...my #2 fav
Not the ideal solution, but maybe a base wash to get the ivory?
This is suuuch an awesome review! I just discovered the little Zeta one and felt like I had just found the holy grail I had been searching for my whole life lol. But I just ordered a Beta one to compare them since they're your two favorites. I generally prefer smoother/hot pressed paper, but you said the Beta one is what is comparable to hot pressed in other books, so I'll see which I prefer. Anyway, thanks for the super in-depth review!
Glad I could help! And have fun testing it out 😊
Great overview, thanks a bunch! I replaced the zeta for the beta in my cart :)
glad it was helpful! Have fun sketching!
Different letters are for different mediums it seems. Smooth paper, like Zeta, I’d use for just ink or colored pencils, Neocolor I and maybe Pitt pens, oil pastels, and such that shine on a smooth surface. Beta, I’d use for watercolor. Thanks for the descriptions because it’s a task figuring out which is good for what.
So hard! Especially because they are usually wrapped up in store so you can't even feel the paper before purchase
Thank you so much! I think i'll go with the beta one, I really wish there was more texture though :)
Promo`SM ☺️
Nice
Love this trip. It’s bucket list for me. I’ve never made it to NFLD before
I've had it on my "to go" list for ages and was planning something for the summer of 2020 so I'm so happy I finally made it! Definitely push it up your list if you're able too :D
Loving it so far. Watched it while cuddling baby E and he likes your voice and music choices haha. Such a good coincidence to find your cards in that shop!
ahhh thats so sweet! So happy he enjoyed himself :D
So glad to see you again! And you made it into my neck of the woods (NB)
Thank you! Oh wow what a beautiful place to live! You're very fortunate :D
@@travellingsweetpea I have been fortunate to live in a lot of beautiful places in the country in my life. Georgian Bay/Great Lakes area of S. Ontario/ Foothills of the Rocky Mountains in N.E. BC and Rocky Mtn House AB/ the expansive vistas of the Prairies in S.E. Sask and now the picturesque coastal/river communities of NB. I enjoy watching you explore our county and finding all of these gems and recording them in your sketchbook as well. Happy Travels!!!
Welcome back. I missed your videos.
Thank you!
Long time no see. Glad you are back hopefully all is well.
Thank you! Yes all is well, just some tech issues that has slowed down editing my other videos, but more from last year will be coming in the near future too :D
A,Super~ nice upload~
I prefer hot press and was drawn to the Zeta but based on this, I'll try the Beta, thanks!
me too! I was so suprised when I liked the cold pressed better lol
I do not need to Travel
Love this informative video on Stillman & Birn! My absolute fav is the Beta Series in the square 7.5 x 7.5 size. It really is the best sketchbook I've found for working in watercolor layering! Thank you so much for sharing. Blessings.
Definitely fallen in love with them too! Never looked back 😆
This was so helpful, thank you! I think your sketches are lovely!
Thank you so much!
Love it!
Thank you!
These drawings and paintings are amazing! 😃😃
thank you!
I dont get it this is not that big i own both travel kits from winser & newton and both are super light and super small. i can put either of them in my back pocket. and the little brushes are not that bad they hold water pretty good and are quality brushes. how small do you want. I mean why are some people wanting somthing so light i mean the next is carbon fiber and then you are no longer paying for the good quality paints but the thing that holds them.
Glad these work so well for you 👍 It’s all about personal preference, I was curious so I tried these out and now people can make a choice based on some of my observations. Not everyone can afford to test out a bunch before finding their fav, and not everyone can afford artist quality paints, so these are great options.
@@travellingsweetpea I was not rying to sound as if i was attacking the episode. i liked it. i just dont get why eveyone is so rapped up in thing being lighter. i would be more concerned about the qoulity of the pallet, paints and pan count. sorry if it came across like i was attacking i understand it about prefrence.
@@Abegley1998 no worries, I didn’t take it that way ☺️
Helpful video, thanks!
Thank you! I’ve almost finished my first Zeta and I love it except for the pilling/breaking down. Off to get a Beta now
Yeah, mine do that occasionally too, so weird because I usually can't predict when it will be super bad.
I just recently got into line and wash. I’ve been sketching and painting random everyday things. These look great. ❤ Thank you for the reviews. 🙏🏻
Thank you!
We have definitely have dreamt about van life, so thanks for sharing your experiences about it. We are excited to see how you continue to develop your van. Happy adventuring.
These are some great ideas! Last month I did my first proper holiday sketchbook/journal. I drew maps of some of my walks and included a few photos so that I didn’t feel the pressure to draw everything! I did a short train journey (literally 3 minutes!) and I was looking forward to having a ticket to glue in my book, but I ended up getting the journey for free so didn’t get given a ticket! Haha
These were great tips, especially the frames which I've ever seen anywhere ! ☺I've seen many videos of this type and they always more or less say the same things... So I really wanted to emphasize how awesome yours is ! :) wish you had more views ! 🌱
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
If you're looking for a pen that has a super fine point, look at Platinum desk pens. You can get a converter for it. That same converter will also work in Platinum Preppy pens, and Kuretake brush pens. I love the Platinum Carbon ink. Enjoy.
Thank you for the suggestions! I’ll take a look :D
I purchased a twsbi eco fountain pen years ago with an extra fine nib and a bottle of black carbon ink. (Waterproof) No cartridges, refillable, fountain pen nibs don't wear out or if they do it will take forever. I believe the nibs are replaceable and you can possibly replace with different style nibs for different line effects. I super prefer my fountain pen over my fine liners any day. Thanks so much for your vlogs and videos! I enjoy virtually traveling with you.
Thats actually my next ink to test! So happy to hear that it's such a good option, looking forward to trying it even more now! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! My faves were seashells and Lake Superior sketches. Thanks for introducing me to Stillman & Birn sketchbooks, I got one from your shop and now have a few different ones, they are great!
Thank you! I think the sea shells are one of my favourites too! it was alot of fun to get upclose and personal, I usually don't get that detailed so it was a nice change. Aren't they great!? So happy I came across them, I'm not sure I'll ever tire of them :D
Going through an artblock right now. Thank you for inspiration!
Such a tough time! The thing that helped me the most was just to know that my art making didn’t need to be productive, and I just spent time creating things that were messy, ugly, and fun ☺️ I hope you have lots of break throughs very soon!
Your sketchbook is really pretty! 8:51 Also I love the bunnies in the jacket!!! Its so cute!! :D
Thank you! That one is part of a series I’m gradually working on for mental health, imposter syndrome is it’s theme :)
Amazing as always. Those were great
Thank you 🥰🥰

❤🖒😌
Great tip about the Alpha. I was just about to order it for Inktober until I saw you mention the part about the erasing showing through. I ordered the Zeta instead. I’m in love with my Beta for watercolors, but I’ve never ventured past that series. Thanks for the informative review.
Amazing! Do you have a place you publicly post your art? I’d love to see what you come up with for inktober ☺️
That was a very good trip thank you for taking us along with you two.
Thank you! Happy you could join 😄
Beautiful vlog! I can’t get over how it isn’t crowded there. Here everything is wall to wall people, from pit stops to campgrounds. I avoid camping/traveling in the summer because of it, especially with my dog in tow. I’m jealous of you and Kiwi. LOL. Enjoy your travels!
It really depends on where you go here. I try to avoid the super crowded spaces and am usually travelling during the week so it helps! We're lucky that as long as we stay in campsites that are 2 or more hours away from Toronto, you can usually beat the crowds 😆
Esta genial el vídeo
Thank you!

Just found your channel! I urban sketch and watercolor on the road with my dog. Kiwi is super adorable! Quick question… can you tell me more about your backpack (it’s exactly what I’m looking for), Kiwi’s harness and raincoat?
How fun! What kind of dog do you have? My backpack is a Hershel but I bought it several years ago and I don't think they still have the small version of the bag. And the raincoat and harness are both from Petsmart, but they are from a brand called Canada Pooch, which might be in Canadian Petsmarts only. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
@@travellingsweetpea Just seeing your comment. For some reason YT doesn’t notify me whenever I have one. I have a Schnoodle. He’s a little bigger than Kiwi. Best travel companion ever! I will keep an eye out for the brands you mentioned. Maybe I can find the backpack on eBay. (Edit to say… I found the backpack on Amazon. Thank you!)
@@tune_smith glad to hear it! I’ve loved the backpack, great size and enough pockets to be useful :D
So cute
Thank you :)
Your welcome
Holy f they are so cuteee
Thank you!
Very nice trip!! I like all your camping gear. You did such a great job on the van! Did you get to do any sketching? How do you like your Jetboil? Your dog is super precious 💖
I actually forgot all my art supplies 😬 I had an artist friend who was appalled when I told her haha. But my next trip I got sooo many sketches done, so those will be in my next video whenever it goes up :) And the jetboil is great! I got the main part for Christmas a few years ago and then this little extension just before the trip. Very pricey. If i wasn't trying to work with the stove I had previously I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable splurging on it. But I'm glad I did because it's so compact and really does the job!
@@travellingsweetpea Thank you for your reply. I can't wait to see more sketching. Hugs from USA.
On your board bowing problem. Sorry for the two part post my phone was being cantankerous. Not sure how well I will explain this. If that board is tongue and groove. If your tongue doesn’t sink so far into the groove that your groove piece sets against your shoulder of the tongue piece. Meaning that you tongue sets against the bottom of your groove and is tight you should be able to cut just about an 1/8 th ( I know you are metric lol). The thickness or curf of your saw blade off of the tongue That should give you enough room for swelling from the moisture to keep it from bowing. I hope that I explained it so you could understand what I meant.
It actually turned out to be a not too hard fix just detaching a few boards and giving them a bit more space, but I will keep that in mind for the future if it happens again (fingers crossed it doesn't haha) thank you!
Glad to see you. That looked like a wonderful trip I hope that you two really had fun. You will get comfortable with the set up the more that you use it and we will look forward to joining you while you do 😉. lol. It looked like some beautiful scenery. I wish I was young again and could travel a lot. I know how I was I would have probably tried to talk you into a joint trip lol enjoy this time in your life sadly it passes way to quickly. Look at you Dutch oven cooking and all! Lol. Hey a recipe for you to try is a bit of a cheater. One yellow cake mix, one of the large cans of cherry 🍒 pie filling and a can of sprite. Coat your Dutch oven with butter. Put your can of pie filling in first then your cake mix and Sprite. Your cook time varies with wood, elevation, ambient temp etcetera but I start checking at about 20 min. It is a nice cheater cobbler.
Such a good recipe! Honestly all i've been doing so far in it are "cheats" using pre-made cinnamon buns or cake mix lol, so that sounds just like it would work for me!
