  It should be mentioned that Jerry Goldsmith was more than merely a "fan" of Alex North. The two gentlemen shared a tremendous respect for one another and developed a deep personal friendship; the likes of which few composers can boast. I find it amusing the way Mr. Williams posed his Goldsmith remark. It seems even the greats aren't above trying to position themselves next to larger greatness. Love 'em all nonetheless!

  Most of you should realize that North was scoring a different version of this movie, a near-rough cut, to be exact, and naturally had North stayed around the score would have been fine-tuned to the final edits. Some of this is kind of rough (the cadences in the iconic scene with the ape and the bones almost match Strauss's fanfare from Zarathustra, but needed tightening), but while I understand that what we're hearing may have possibly dated the film, everyone here also must remember that MGM wanted an original underscore and Kubrick basically gave the studio the bird by hiring North while at the same time had little to no intention of using his score even if he kept the edits that North scored. This was a travesty and it crushed North big time.

  It's surprising how Ulrich never asked Galen where Hodge is where I'm sure Galen would have said that Hodge was killed by Tyrian where Tyrian shot an arrow at him and Galen says that he and Tyrian got into a spear and sword fight where Galen says that he killed Tyrian.

  I'd be curious to know the influence of Shostakovich on American composers of Alex North's era as Shostakovich's music has a cinematic quality to it, no doubt due to his writing scores for Soviet cinema.

  God looked down on me and smiled when I just found this when I wasn't looking for it, as I didn't know it existed. I remember watching the movie Streetcar Named Desire for the first time as a young teenager, and the musical score hit me like a ton of bricks. It was so incredibly Sexy in a raw way, unlike any other score. I read the Tennessee Williams play after, and have nothing but praise for Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, etc. The play didn't become meaningless without that score or those actors. But this Alex North score was what ignited my interest in Jazz for the first time. Funny you should mention the story of Alex in Russia, hearing Duke Ellington and becoming homesick. I don't want to sound like Johnny One Note, but Duke Ellington is my favorite Jazz musician- because he composed the sexiest Jazz music ever. I never knew before seeing this that Alex admired Duke. I did manage to get a CD of North's Streetcar music, paired with small sections of Max Steiner. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for whoever posted this!

  Whatever you think of think of the cost/timeframe of the light rail, it has massively improved the amenity of this area. Created a place actually designed for people rather than cars. The number of pedestrians in this video probably outnumbered motorists by 10-1.

  Yup. These guys' biggest mistake was not stating explicitly in the Constitution that only whites can ever be Americans. They said it in their 1790 Naturalization Act, but that could be ignored more easily than the Constitution. Now future generations get to grow up in an increasingly third world US, flooded with people who have no connection to this nation or its ideals, and would happily see it destroyed if it benefits them.

  Lamentably, the victory of The American Revolution was quickly voided by Rothshild's 'Bank of England'; and, tho' Andrew Jackson provided a real second American Revolution, by throwing out Rothschild's bank, his victory was again overturned in 1913. Ever since President Woodrow Wilson signed 'The Federal Reserve Act', we have been as we once were - unsovereign colonies for Corporate/Globalist graft - fighting endless unnecessary wars for profit and being economically pillaged at home. THAT ... sad to say, is what the real currency behind 'The Declaration of Independence' is, as of 2019.
