For the first couple of tips, I will say: please at least carry a first aid kit and some kind of fire starter if you're planning on going too far haha.

This is what people forget man. Great work bringing the focus back to DOING rather than purchasing. We have the power to simply go and do things much more often than we realize.

I envy how you can find what looks to be more native woodland and biodiversity than sitka spruce trees in a logging line. Any hints towards what county you went to?

Finally someone who talks some sense! Because of the internet and social media, I've found that beginners in all the hobbies I've been into for years are pouring their life's savings and taking out thousands in credit card debt to get the best of the best gear before they even know if they're actually into the stuff. It's lunacy, and so many of these influencer types keep on drilling into peoples' heads that they can't get into something if they're not willing to drop thousands of dollars on things they'll never need.

sound advice, good sir. I would add to get quality stuff, take care of your equipment and repair instead of replace. I've been living in the mountains for the past three years, hike all the time, and have had the same pack, wind/rain jacket, pants, sweater, shorts and polls the entire time. Camping aside, if you want to go into the mountains and to the tops of hikeable peaks, you don't need much.

The problem i personally have with Patagonia is that a very big group of people who wear it are just people with money who are the opposite of good for the environment. Techbro vibes. Bit like a wearable Tesla. And that's such a shame and i feel like it's something that needs to be addressed by the "real" users. I also feel that's the main reason why it's so ridiculously expensive, because it is used as a wealth signifier by people who when it really came down to it don't care about the environment, and sit in an office most of the time. Same problem i see with many workwear brands. But yeah, that's just my point of view on it, and i live in the Netherlands, can't speak for other places ofc.

And obviously the brand can't vet everyone (and i honestly don't think we would want that as a society) but they surely can see the trend and react to it. Idk, make it uncool for posers to wear Patagonia or something. I don't hold it against them that some people wear it to look "green" but it's their image, their believability. People don't see the factories, designers and stuff. They see the customers. If they become a meme because of this it can have bad impact on them i think. And if they have done something against that that would be cool!

A word of completely unsolicited advice - but those lower limbs on the conifers are probably dead and dry as fuck and will stay dry, they will also go up like nobodies business. Firewood is best taken from dead parts of standing trees :) trust me ;) Or get some birch bark if you want to be a proper G - good effort though lads!

Some one that finally understands, you got all these people that say you need this or that before even starting lol, I don’t travel in my car tho, like ya I drive to the mountains and go on a backpacking trip, I’ve been doing this for over 10 years, I still don’t use a tent, just a tarp or military poncho, I got a military pack too and clothing, but I’ve always collected military stuff for outdoor purposes and it’s cheap surplus, my buddy does the van life and ya he just had a basic high school backpack 🎒 hoodie, pants, simple hammock, over the years I gave him a military pack and clothing cause it’s stronger last forever

Disagree on not buying equipment, you should buy enough to be safe. There's no reason to keep buying gear after you have the minimum to be safe until you know you like outdoors hobbies.

Trying to stay sober now i feel that I’m going thru some sort of awakening but I can’t put my finger on it just yet. But I get what u said about music can make u indulge in one’s misery and can use on those feelings. I used to listen to hard gangster music in order to feel aggressive and use on those feelings the mind is crazy thing. But good luck everyone and thanks for the vid man it’s really helped me.

MAKE YOUR OWN STUFF! Seriously, i've made a whole cookset out of trash and it works fine! Stove, cup(with folding handle), boiling vessel, hell even a spoon. A water bottle can be just a plastic bottle. Something to sit on? Take a shopping bag. There is so much stuff you can make yourself with stuff you already have! And don't be afraid to buy second hand! If gear is good it will work fine in a second or third life. And if you are by car consider taking your bike with you, then you massively increase your radius when u have parked the car. Folding bikes exist and lots of people sell them secondhand.

Huge fan of not buying more stuff that you don't fully need, BUT: Please don't risk your life or health being cheap. Proper hiking shoes can save you from slipping or rolling your ankle and needing rescue, and don't underestimate hypothermia either. :D

When I got to Osaka Japan it was very confusing. Nobody spoke English versus Tokyo and no one really wanted you to be there. One thing I did to get my bearings is walk a mile in every direction from my apartment. Then I started to feel a little more acclimated.
