Nietzsche disait - voilà que je me prends pour un célèbre et génial comédien français ! - mais Nietzsche disait quand même que la musique est un art dionysiaque. Un art de l'hubris, de la démesure, qui nous appelle à des expériences qui rompent avec nos médiocres routines engoncées. Je l'entends dans la musique dite "classique" - ce qui n'a aucun sens - même si elle s'écrit "en mesures". Mais depuis un siècle, la musique de la démesure dionysiaque, celle qui ne t'abaisse pas mais te fait entrevoir ce qu'il y a de plus haut, de plus fort et de plus beau que toi, c'est le meilleur du Jazz, les Bill Evans, Coltrane, Keith Jarrett et j'en omets trop. John Zorn, dans son style, appartient à la grande légende de cette musique : admirable. C'est la musique du Grand Midi (Nietzsche, encore), celle qui te fait sentir la Joie, pure et dévergondée. Sans saloperies, juste l'extase. Et bien sûr, Marc Ribot est juste "hénaurme" ! Que vivent encore longtemps toutes les "notes bleues".

J'ai eu la chance d'écouter Zappa et ses Mothers of Invention en concert. Inoubliable. Et votre rapprochement entre les deux Z est tout à fait pertinent. Notamment en ce que ni Zorn, ni Zappa ne tirent la couverture à eux en concert. Ils interviennent pour sublimer le travail déjà sublime de leurs musiciens. J'adore ! Bien à vous.

Chacun son ressenti, je respecte ton avis J'avais totalement perdu de vue (et d'oreilles ..) Zorn depuis 15 ans à la louche... Le week-end dernier dans mon coin de Basse Bretagne j'ai eu le bonheur de voir les films de Mathieu Amalric sur John Zorn c'est vraiment épatant, le bonhomme est extraordinaire par ce qu'il entraîne autour de lui à l'instar de Miles Davis ou de Frank Zappa, avec pour lui une bienveillance que l'on ressent immédiatement... Bon ben, moi j'ai vraiment aimé ce concert et je pense vraiment que ça vaut le coup de suivre Zorn Cordialement

Great but I miss Bill Frisell in this band. Nothing against Ribaud which is good but Frisell is so much in a deep inspiration in this kind of guitar and his sound and feeling were getting the thing really somewhere else beyond the galaxy.
