byte sized engineering

byte sized engineering

I'll bet you have creative ideas trapped inside your mind. I make Byte Sized Engineering videos to inspire, educate, and empower you to make your creative ideas a reality. You are more capable than you think, and I want to help you release your inner maker!

I know how it feels to want to make something I’m excited and passionate about, but also feel overwhelmed by not knowing where to start. I’ve unlocked the secret to getting past this feeling of being stuck. In my videos I show you how to take complex problems and break them down into smaller, more manageable “byte sized” pieces.

My name is Zach and I have been making things my whole life. I worked full time as an electrical engineer for many years improving my problem solving skills. I wanted to share my passion for making things with other people so in 2016 I started this KZread channel.

More information can be found on my website www.bytesizedengineering.com/about. You can also find me on Instagram @bytesizedzach.

    When handling your signal wire like shown @6:40 make sure you are isolated and have no connection to ground. Otherwise you will close the circuit by just touching the exposed part of the signal wire and potentially hurt yourself. I recommend to use a button on the breadboard to test your relay and not do what is shown in this video!

    someone with electronics knowledge pls explain this... Why do we need a MOSFET and all those ? if we just amplify the signal to around 4V and use the 'NORMALLY OPEN' port with the common, switch will be closed when the signal gives a 4V & Switch will be opened while the signal gives below 4V. that way you don't have to deal with that reverse logic. I think there was a reason why you didn't do so. if someone knows it, pls explain...

    I agree with others. The lack of real "Punch" undercuts the experience. Also In the Game they move. So you can move your guy in and out of range. Its also the heads that you are trying to hit. Not count body shots. I think put the IMU in the heads and change you 4 bar linkages so they strike towards the faces. Then put them on linear rails (Most likely double v wheels will be good enough) so you can move them in and out of range. also allow some torso swivels so you can aim the hits better. I know it took a lot to get to this point and They look awesome but could use some refinements and tweaks.

    I like how the red robots and/or your shirt reflects in the KZread button in the shot around around 1:05, making it look like a red YT logo.

    Great build however I feel I must address the giant elephant in the room that the Robots dont really make contact with each other which to me is a great disservice to the game. My suggestion would be to design the fists to have some sort of "springyness" in them so when they make contact you're not damaging any components. You could also design the chest piece to have some give to absorb the impacts and make it much more realistic to the original toys. I would also make it so the robots can rotate slightly and slide back and forth slightly just to give the user more "control" of the robot fight.

  • @Robothut
    @Robothut7 күн бұрын

    I agree. Bumping fists is not what the game was about. It is totally cool what you have done so far, but if you could make some changes so the fists can hit the other robot's chest or better yet the head like in the real game that would be fantastic. Thank you for sharing this project with us.

    Agreed, I thought I was missing something and forgot what the original game looked like... Hopefully this can be corrected in the next iterations. (I noticed the led colors went to the wrong robot too, and this seems to have changed by the time he tested lol)

    I enjoy microcontroller projects, I also enjoy look picking etc. My thought was rather than brute force the combo you could teach the controller to manipulate it. Depending on whether the motor can report a high sensitivity regarding torque I think it would be the most efficient option.

    You really don't need to combine two discrete numbers into an averaged one to try exactly 50 places on the dial. The mechanical tolerances in the back know nothing about the number of lines on the dial in the front (and, of course, you know this, because you had to convert X numbers on the front to some number of degrees of rotation from the stepper motor). So, remove the dial numbers entirely from the search process, and just divide the 360 degrees into N search points. For _reporting_ to the user which combination you're checking, you can translate to the dial numbers, but, for the search, just use N for the number of divisions. Then, you can experiment with just how low you can go with N (maybe 40 or even 30) to cut your search time even more.

    I decided the same, but have a few 18v tool batteries where the electronics do not work but some of the 18650 batteries are fine, but buying new it is not really worth it apart from if you buy a ready made battery they could be selling you used batteries that do not last long

  • @iseemeyouseeyou
    @iseemeyouseeyouАй бұрын

    @@utubeape Yeah, I wonder how difficult/costly it would be to actually build some batteries from scratch? I know some local welders and my neighbor is an electrician's apprentice. Something tells me that it probably wouldn't actually be as daunting a task as daisy chaining 200 18650's together. I think I might look into sourcing some lithium. Besides I guess these 18650 battery boxes are actually already illegal in some states so I'm not sure I want to mess with them.
