    Basel the Sith Lord... 🤣. Love this theory!! Hahaha. 🦫 As I've stated previously, and just like Martyn, I'm not going to judge the series as a whole until the final episode has completed. I think this was filmed more like a complete story / movie, then broken up into bits. So you might not get individual (standalone) stories in each episode, but bits and pieces of the entire story as we go along. I do agree that the Sith with the red lightsaber is probably Qimir. Far too many details for it not to be. But if we look at the name of the show, Acolyte, I believe that means that they are a helper / assistant to an apprentice, not necessarily the apprentice themselves. So my guess so far is that The Sith we've seen is not the master but is only the apprentice. And the apprentice is trying to find an apprentice of their own in Mae. I may be completely wrong but I would love to see that there are actually more layers to this show than our presented right now. And fingers crossed, that's the case by the end of the show, that it all comes together and there were a few things that we didn't necessarily predict or we're just red herrings. The series is presenting some mysteries, even if it does look a little bit more low production / low budget at times. That said however, I'm still not falling victim to all the discourse that I'm seeing on social media about the show, and am actually looking forward to each episode. Maybe that's the hopefulness in me, thinking that by the end it will have paid off. But either way, my only wish is that Star Wars content is successful. And while this one, regardless of outcome, hasn't been successful in the way I'd hoped (way too much discourse in the community), I can also understand the not all Star Wars is going to be top tier, or up to my high expectations/standards. And just because it's "meh", doesn't mean it deserves to be absolutely hated and despised. That to me is an over reaction for sure. I do hope however that if there are lessons to be learned by Disney and Lucasfilm, that the feedback isn't just tossed aside as being only from hateful bigoted male trolls - as there are some complaints that should be addressed in both plot and dialogue. But again, trying to reserve all my judgments till it's over & will continue hoping for the best. And I am looking forward to the next installment of the show (and your show recap video after 👍).

    🤔 In all Honesty: If you understand anything about Story & Character Structure, you will find that *The ACOLYTE* is below basic & is indeed pedestrian story-telling. I heard a Parent's quote that said it best: "(The Acolyte) is too *_Dumb_* for Children -&- too *_BORING_* for Adults." 🎞👎 "The Acolyte will insult your intelligence, no matter how little of it you possess. The problem is the writers and Disney, not the fans." 1 x ⭐1/2

    Oh, it’s far from perfect. I don’t think anyone denies that. I think as Star Wars fans, we overanalyse these things. We try to tie everything in and don’t just try to enjoy it for what it is. It’s not great, but as we said, we’ll give our judgement on all of it at the end of the series. At the end of the day, it won’t stop us enjoying the original trilogy. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻

    What I think and I could be wrong is Sol saved Mae and yet let everyone think she died, I believe the huge twist will be Sol is behind the Sith with a bigger master overseeing it all. We see a hand grab Mae which is Sol, in trailers we see the helmet on the floor so he must be taken out, Sol is far too much wanting Mae to be his apprentice.

    Great review gents and again some interesting thoughrs, to which I can rekate to. This series doesn't have that wow factor to make me rush to watch it or get excited about it. It does have a certain intrigue. However, I am still unsure as to whether my intrigue is to see if any good comes from the series or to see how bad it actually gets. I'm not a hater, but as an old-school Star Wars fan, I am definitely feeling frustrated by the inconsistency of keeping to Star Wars lore.

    I enjoyed this episode the least so far- the central characters just didn't really do anything to progress the story for me other than introducing the nemesis. Anyone wondering where the budget goes- it evidently goes on unnecessary cgi characters (probably employing 20+ different people to render them)- the old witch in the last episode and Basil in this one. However I did really like the fact that the Jedi (including Ki-Adi) don't want to inform the council as they would involve the Republic, which adds an extra bit of internal conflict in the Jedi order- I don't really have any issue with Ki Adi's lines in the Phantom Menace as he could have just lied, even to get himself on the council- it just adds extra nuance to the holier than thou Jedi and their monopoly on the force. The last couple of minutes were great when the dark Jedi was revealed. Totally had the red shirts thought. The music in this episode was phenomenal- I'd argue it's the best we have had since John Williams. Always watchable, this one just didn't do a lot for me. 5/10.

    I’m the same as Martyn, this was my least favourite so far. Some of the character choices had no set up. Why does osha want to walk away and not see her sister she’s just found out is alive and why did Mae decide to suddenly turn herself in to the Jedi. It all seemed a bit rushed and not in line with what we’ve seen of the characters so far. I thought the last two minutes were superb, it actually felt like Star Wars horror and was creepy. Still a lot of twists to come I’m sure and later episodes will add perspective to earlier episodes.

    Great review guys! I’m with Adam and scoring this one a 7 out of 10. My main reason is the sets in some of the shots were really poor quality…it took me out of the episode. In the first two episodes I was sure that Qimir was the Sith Lord, and this week they were making it so obvious that now I want to see it be someone else! I really enjoyed how the Jedi are not briefing the Jedi Council on this when we already have two Jedi killed! This sort of Hubris is what destroyed the Jedi, the Empire and eventually the New Republic. We’ve mentioned it before, but the actor playing Master Sol is a huge fan of Qui-Gon Jinn and it really shows in his portrayal of Master Sol. I wouldn’t say he’s more powerful than any of the other Jedi we’ve seen, but he is definitely more attuned to certain aspects of the Force than the other Jedi, especially Vernestra Rwoh. I’m trying to figure out how Ki Adi Mandi can have that line about the Sith being Extinct and yet being a part of the small council working on this. Since he’s not on the mission to collect Kelnacca, I can only assume at this point that he’s not going to come into contact with the Sith and the reports will be vague or Sol won’t be believed. It will probably be the latter since the Jedi are trying to cover all of this up already! I too believe next week will be more flashback, but they might delve into why Osha left the Jedi order…they haven’t really gone into that.

    Again, while I do feel this episode was the weakest of the three so far, for me personally I'm reserving my judgment until the entire series is out as this is only another piece of the puzzle. And I think you all felt the same way. This episode was but a single point of view for the most part. I'm sure that we'll see alternate points of view in the future as this mystery is further unraveled. Martyn made some excellent observations at the end. One that really jumped out to me was the poison from the tree that was noted at the start of the episode. I mentioned to my wife that they wouldn't say that unless it came back into place somewhere else. Martyn is the only other person I've heard mention this one in the recaps I've watched so far. I definitely think we're onto something there. Another wonderful review guys. [If I can get some free time, I'd love to join you for an episode, but don't know that I can commit just yet.]

    Great review guys! I'm rating this episode a 6...mainly because the pacing was so slow. I agree that these series were originally planned as movies (think Zack Snyder's Justice League) and they decided to make them a series by cutting them up into episodes. Onto the episode itself. This flashback was mainly told from Osha's point of view, I'm sure we'll see how Mae survived and why the coven did not in (hopefully) shorter flashbacks...no need to show all the common POV scenes again. After we see how the coven died and how Mae survives all we'll need to see is why Osha left the Jedi Order. All the dIsNeY kIlLeD sTaR wArS grifters are focusing on one ambiguous line about the twins and conflating it with the ceremony. The ceremony was clearly a coming of age ritual for Mae and Osha and they weren't using the force to make more kids...again, the fandom menace has a "this is the worst thing to happen in the history of ever" episode already queued up for next week as well. I pay them no mind. The coven was interesting because, like the Nightsisters of Dathomir, we're seeing users of the Force who are not Jedi or Sith. These witches obviously trend more dark that the Night sisters, but perhaps not as evil as the Sith. They obviously did something to Torbin, and whatever it was caused Torbin to lock himself up in the meditation rite, Kelnacca to go off and be a hermit in the Outer Rim and it obviously affected Sol deeply. We'll probably see that in the next two episodes. I'm looking forward to next week, Master Sol and Jecki Lon continue to be my favorite parts of the show!

    Great episode recap and review; always awesome to see Stu. I quite enjoyed the episode. I didn’t have any problem with exploring the backstory of Osha and Mae, in fact it felt entirely logical to do so. I was also not offended by the existence of a matriarchal, potentially Dark Side/Sith leaning, coven of witches. It seemed to me we had seen this kind of thing before in Clone Wars and even Rebels where other Force users/sensitives have a different approach to the Jedi or Sith - Dathomir witches, the Bendu, I forget the name of those Force creatures Yoda meets. I don’t mind that others in the Galaxy feel/interpret/connect with or build religions/cults/orders around the Force in different ways; And it’s also logical that dominant groups seek to suppress those that threaten their dominance, whether they consider themselves benign or otherwise; seems entirely logical to me. I found it interesting to explore the girls, as their paths diverged and the reactions of the Coven. They seemed like a benign cult, at least in what we saw for the most part…I think the other side of that and what really happened while Osha was escaping the fire in her room may be revealed in a future episode and was teased by the takeover of Padawan Torbin. The face-off with the Jedi was fairly tense and it was interesting to see diplomacy win out over violence, at least that time. I like Martyn’s idea about someone in the Coven, or all of them, trying to turn the Jedi on each other and that resulting in the destruction of the coven and explosion in the reactor etc. I found that a bit of a jolt to watch initially as it made little sense how a small fire in a doorway had suddenly led to massive explosions and death, but I think there is more to discover about this to fill in the blanks. There must be some reason the Jedi felt guilt…Torbin seemed to be injured in the background of the final scenes aboard the starship, so clearly more had gone on than we saw and your observations that the dead were not burned is also suggestive of another revealing flashback to come. I was never bored and the pacing did not bother me at all. It wasn’t action packed, but that’s fine as long as the story progresses, which it seemed to for me, helped by the really good soundtrack this week. I thought the sets and music looked great and on the whole the acting was better this episode, especially Mother Aniseya, who I thought was very good. The origin of the twins did concern me a bit. They are clearly wanting the audience to connect the ‘creation’ comment about the twins with the idea of an immaculate on unnatural creation of Anakin and that worries me a bit. I’m not as steeped in the law of the Chosen One as Martyn, but it seems a bit of a leap to essentially intimate that this happened about 100 years before Anakin was created. (Incidentally, saw someone saying the Darth Plagueis was responsible for creating Anakin…not sure if that is canon, but not heard that before?) If that was what people felt was going to destroy Star Wars, well … it didn’t for me, a long time fan since the late 70s, but I still don’t like that step; it’s a big Galaxy and there is no need to reuse something that could be so controversial. It’s something that it will be difficult to just write off and forget, like other dodgy ideas and silliness in Star Wars, as it’s so fundamental to the OT and PT, it’s part of the heart of Star Wars and it should have been left alone. Maybe if they leave it as it is, with no further revelations we can just wonder what she meant…maybe they were implanted clones of Mother Anisaya for instance so inherit her Force ability, but are not an Anakinesque immaculate conception? Overall, I’m probably on 6.5/10 this week, actually felt it was a bit more coherent than last two weeks and acting was definitely superior. Loved seeing Kelnacca and Osha’s interactions with him. I remain open minded and baffled by the extensive hate out there in social media world and polarised views at this early stage, but we all have our opinions and I do feel nervous that I could easily switch my opinion if something really annoys me about this show.

    Wow! That was a great review Scott. I kind of feel we’re on the same page this far. I believe in the Darth Plagueis novel which isn’t canon that Plagueis attempts to create life but it doesn’t work out. There seems to be two schools of thought for what happens next. Either Plagueis didn’t think what he had tried actually worked, but in fact it did work and Anakin was created. OR that the light side of the force felt what Plagueis was attempting to do so the midichlorians created Anakin in order to fulfil the Chosen One prophecy because they sensed the balance of the force teetering more towards the Darkside. I suppose both are essentially the same (depending on your point of view) 😂 Always appreciate you watching Scott 👍

    Agreed! As we said in the episode if people have a genuine reason for not liking something then that's somebody's valid opinion but deciding to hate something when you haven't even seen something is just ridiculous. Sincerity is quite important in my eyes 🤷‍♂️ Appreciate you watching 👍👍

    Thinking about producing a rigid / plastic graphic floor for this Haslab Catina set, do you think it would sell ?

  • @alongandlongtimeago
    @alongandlongtimeago14 күн бұрын

    For those people that didn’t want to display it in its modular layout (unless you made the floor modular too) I think you could certainly get some interest. While I do think it will be back I’m not certain looking at the numbers that all the tiers will get backed.

    A good honest/fair review chaps. Apologies for being so late (quite a bit going on, Haslab etc! And it took me a while to actually get round to watching both episodes). I do agree with all your comments/points, and i too am enjoying the series so far. Its always a struggle starting a new show, just getting to grips with new worlds, new characters/aliens (some existing species from the OT would have been nice). Overall a good 6.5 - 7 out of 10.

    Think it is a waste of money. I am an original collector, So my figures could not really use them chairs. The price is way too high. You could make most of this from 3D printing and just random items. Rather wish then had done the Sandcrawler instead. I don't see a space for the band either.

  • @alongandlongtimeago

    I am shocked there is nowhere for the band 🤯 I’ve heard the excuse that it was filmed separately so was never in the original blueprints but come on it’s one of the most iconic moments from the scene. Appreciate you watching 🙏👍🙏👍

  • @MoparMcNeer

    Alright, I'm just going to come out and say it. I think this is a fantastic Haslab!! Sure, would I love the price to be less - of course. But the fact is I think it's actually priced just as I would have anticipated & is offering almost everything I could want (where's that light kit though? And the droid detector sound feature?). But initially I wasn't not loving that they have a regular and deluxe as I thought it should have came with everything for the $399 price point. But thinking of it from a business standpoint, it may have been created as a $499 Haslab originally and someone internally said that it's $100 too much and we need to offer a version that's at the $399 price point to ensure that it funds, so a concession was made to have a lower price version available. So I guess in the end, we have options based on our budgets, so that's not terrible. As for what we're getting though - I think it's extremely detailed and I love the modular way you can move it around. I love all the little details & items that come with it. And I think the figure selection is amazing. I have no doubt that this will get backed in full and everyone will get all six figures. As you're well aware, I really don't collect modern or TVC, only occasionally picking up one or two here or there as they peak my interest. But I have to admit, this particular release has me pretty excited honestly. Especially knowing that they're doing a "Back to Tatooine" figure run (pipelines) soon after. (Is TVC getting its claws in me?) While I haven't committed to backing this one, the allure is certainly there for me. This is one of my favorite locations in all of Star Wars and one that always bring me back to my childhood fascination. All of the background characters and details are what kept me drawn into Star Wars & always wanting more from the galaxy. I wish I had more space to display this thing in the open. This is the #1 thing that holds me back as I know that most likely, this one will stay in its box and never be put out for display or play. But FOMO is real & this one is tempting me. And even though, for me, it likely stays in the box, I would probably be a sucker and get the deluxe one as I would undoubtedly regret not doing that at the time. 😂 I didn't watch the live stream as I was wrapped up, so I appreciate this overview and discussion. I may go back and see if I can watch the entire original stream video now (but that might just make me want to back it even more - 😅). Btw - #StarWarsCups. Hahaha And I am certain that Martyn will be backing 100%. Now, will he end up going deluxe? That's the real question. 😉

  • @alongandlongtimeago

    You know me too well my friend! I’ve backed it this very evening 🤣 I couldn’t not. I must have those cardbacks but I think this will be my first real foray into creating an accurate recreation of a scene. I am now going to start going through my tubs of figures and pull out those cantina aliens and start preparing. 😉😎 I genuinely think this is one of those sets that people will regret not picking up. Thanks as always Josh! Don’t forget that if you can spare an hour on a Wednesday we would love to have you on for an Acolyte after show. 👍👍👍

  • @MoparMcNeer
    @MoparMcNeer17 күн бұрын

    My experience was much like Martyn's. In my initial reactions were virtually identical as well. I didn't get to watch it the day it dropped (life is still really busy), but caught it a couple days later. By that time I'd seen a lot of negativity and "hot" takes. So I think my expectations were lowered even further, but upon watching the show, I actually enjoyed it and was intrigued and interested to see more. I think because I had no expectations, I actually enjoyed it more. And being that this is 100 years before the prequel trilogy began, and I haven't really dabbled much in the High Republic stuff, I'm much more open to a unique story and something a little different. I've heard folks say that it is the"CW" as far as production value, acting, and dialogue goes, and while I can see that comparison, I do still feel that this is Star Wars in many of the most important aspects (to me). Martyn makes a good point in regards to the Jedi not needing to use their lightsabers and being able to fight in more of a hand-to-hand combat style or a defensive style. I was surprised that on so many occasions the Jedi could not feel the presence of the acolyte assassin. I'm not sure if it was the acting, the dialogue, or the interactions in general between the Jedi, but that portion of the show didn't quite land for me. Some was okay, but some of them seem pretty awkward. That said, seeing the Jedi in more of a peacekeeper role was what I had anticipated for the Jedi during the High Republic era, so that did land for me. And I like starting to see the attitudes & behaviors of the Jedi order, which will eventually lead to their downfall. I'm really hoping that they will bring in some known Sith Lords by the conclusion of this show. Would love to see more of that teased and more of that in live action down the road bringing us closer to the prequel era. I think there's so much to unpack during that time that I would absolutely love to see. I wanted to note also that I haven't seen any of the "social commentary/gender" bits that the clickbait ads have been talking about. Maybe there's some of that down the road in future episodes, but right now I'm just not seeing it. All in all though, I'm perfectly satisfied currently with the beginning of this show and it does have me wanting more. Sure, there's things that I can nitpick, but I really don't want to get too far into that until the show concludes, as it might get better as we go. I'm a 7/10 so far, but hopeful moving forward.

    Hi Josh! I actually just finished my second viewing of episodes 1 and 2 and after the expectation and anticipation wasn’t there like it was for the first time I enjoyed it even more! Those prequel vibes are definitely there. The way it’s shot, the way the Jedi act and especially the music. On my second viewing I was very impressed with the score. I also agree with you that there is no overt/in your face social commentary that was obvious to me. If however you were to look at the internet you would believe that the whole show was about this 🤷‍♂️. I’m looking forward to seeing where the show goes and as I’ve always said that as long as it doesn’t destroy established canon then it can’t really be judged until it’s finished. Many thanks as always Josh 🙏

    Without any real explanation they've been telling us for decades that they'd NEVER do the Tonnika Sisters. Only in the past 15 or so years did they finally say that it was because of the likeness rights, but as has been revealed, they did what it took and made it happen - the story is probably far more complicated than just being about likeness rights, but we'll probably never know. I'm sure there was a small sum paid and look at us now. I've wanted those two since, well, forever, so this is a HUGE win!!
