    In Japan they are using robots to combat a population collapse, that threatens it's very existence. Alot of movies are a glimpse into the future. But the word of God is the whole view of the future. Too many of us are focused on being who we were not created to be, trying to fit into narratives, that we are not suites for. The Lord created us with purpose, to be set apart from the world. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2... Humanity is missing Jesus! Oh Lord we need you!

    Who is still watching this movie in 2021 ? I do, it's a good movie. Thou during 2009 when watched this at cinema, still don't quite understand the "meaning" of this film. Now rewatch again, kinda feels in many of us today, we "sort of" living like this. But ofcoz not with a double "physical body". It's like most commonly, are from internet social networks. A lot of people are just "fakes" in there. I would like to re evaluate this film, we humans can't life exactly like this film, having a "double" and your surrogate is the one that is actively. But if creating surrogate or more like a droid soldiers for war, then yes. Instead of sending someone real out for war and then be kill. Droid soldiers (something like Star Wars' droids) and droid intelligence (like from the movie Stealth) type of war aircrafts, I think it should be considerable for future, if really comes to one day WW III really happens. Certainly, by then I hope I'm not around anymore to witness it. That should be in the very future.

    This is interesting, it definitely strikes a chord and I am very sympathetic to the whole medium is the message thing, but it is recorded in 1988, his argument centres around things getting worse, so it should be testable, have we really declined so much since then? If so what are the measures? You could argue that some things have certainly gotten worse, there is for example less accountability with regards power (for example the 80's saving and loans crisis led to convictions, the 2008 crash led to hardly any), the world has become more economically unequal, we have utterly failed to face up to the challenge of global warming, things which were considered completely unacceptable then (such as torture) are now far more tolerated, culture has become far more stagnant and exclusive. On the other hands some thing have improved, gay rights for example, it is easier for people to come out now, than it was then (though I'd bet rates of depression have gotten worse, though that could be a sign of less stringent/more open diagnosis), a higher percentage of people are educated and literate, the end of real existing socialism in the West has led to certain thinkers and writers being more seriously considered by larger groups of people, means and possibilities for communication have expanded (albeit ones that are for the most part what Flusser decries as functionally simple), we have increased the number of people on the planet by a few billion, yet we seem to have not suffered any increase in famines. You can of course make a case for on balance things getting worse, but it is far from one-way traffic.

    just found this video today. his theory seems to concur with marshal mcluhan. i have long 'felt' that the media we use is very much being under-utilised. it is hard to express exactly what i think it could be, but just experimental cinema for example. i would have thought the ideas and techniques there would have become more commonly accepted. yet there seems to be a general philistinism and reactionary thread. reversion to 'safe' modes of expression. what do you think of today?

  • @maldoror5750
    @maldoror57502 жыл бұрын

    @@sawtoothiandi well said. I v much agree on the point of mainstream cinema’s slow adoption of more experimental approaches to the form. That said, part of the ‘magic’ (for the lack of a better term atm) of said avant feats of every preceding era is their antagonism towards standardisation. Whereas phenomenona such as the transgressively postmodern methods of hip-hop or modern art’s turn to abstraction have been ordained into the fabric of popular culture, cinema has been more monolithic in terms of what the greater appeal is - for the most part, as the somewhat steady, mainstream success of experimental ‘auteurs’ like David Lynch can’t be ignored.

    You would get mad sooner or later. People fall into madness already today, when they let their lives get senseless. Knowing that you are only virtual existence, with completly artificial feelings and emotions, would give you madness for sure, if you're sane enough to truly acknowledge your existence as a digital consciousness. Human mind isn't capable of such burden.

    Those who put their trust in their own Creator do get to live forever. Will you search the truth of this matter or reject it and accept eternal death? Whether deliberate or not. Those who made this movie have tapped into a true message: Do not put your faith in the fake, phoney, virtual creations of man. Seek for Him who is pleased to give the gift of true faith, unconditional grace, and eternal life.

    How do they feed and house all those people without any technology?

  • @semperintrepidus16
    @semperintrepidus164 жыл бұрын

    I didn't see such a superabundance of people that would be impossibly hard to feed. Greater numbers have done just fine for nearly all of history. A better question is how/why are they so fat and soft (like tech users) instead of being lean and strong? But the answer to that is simple really: it's just a movie. An under-rated movie all the same imo.

    It's the here and now just amplified with a few more major steps in techno capabilities. I suggest that individuals take on a very simple 100 hour off grid challenge* and in response I get a silence akin to someone meeting the grim reaper face to face. *The off grid challenge is simply an opportunity to reconnect with real, non-virtual reality and beauty by disconnecting from all tech devices, phone, texts, GPS, music, videos, etc. for a mere 100 hours. Go for a walk / long hike, read a book, play a REAL musical instrument, sing your favorite songs with your own voice, find other people, share your story and hear theirs. 100 hours can go by very quickly, but it's long enough to give someone a glimpse of the other side. A basic watch / clock and electric lighting / heating is ok.

    As in, the technique of writing brought a revolution in the way and manner of thinking. New techniques usually come from play, but when taken seriously they offer a degree of instrumentality that is far superior in the evolutionary sense (ie allow you to reproduce more of your own). The instrument, the tool, the technology, up to, as some would say, the phallus - penis.

    Luckily we are here to now forget the bygone trespasses of yesteryear. Love conquers all, and no matter were we look in human history we can find brutality. We must remember that the Church was very cruel, though it also had many good members that should be praised. Instead of focusing on that dark past maybe we should look to the future. I feel we should instead focus on giving each other respect and love. Thanks, Bill.
