Playboy introduced the modern version of this. The fact that women of earlier times might not be particularly appealing today is both irrelevant in one sense, yet exactly the point today. Playboy, etc models and Barbie are representative of modern American ideals of feminine beauty.

The interesting thing about this is that 2000 years after Adam and Eve - the woman is still viewed as an object of the mans desire. Those women who are not considered as desirable for a man- is not considered at all. The woman is still viewed as having sole responsibility and culpability when it comes to shame, sex and infidelity. Even though its takes two to being unfaithful- the woman is the only one condemned. We are still viewing the woman and judging her after standards that are over 2000 years old. The woman is considered the home wrecker,( when having an affaire with a married man) even though she is'nt the one who has a home to wreck. It's the married man who is the home wrecker because he is the one who has a wife and children- a home. He is the one who has made sacred promises in church "forsaking all others". Still the woman is seen as the wicked seducer. This reduces the man to being so weak that he is incapable of making his own choices and taking responsibility for those choices. Because only the woman is at fault.

As Mr. Berger cautioned us in the first part, it's on us to take what he portrays here with some skepticism. I would likewise encourage people to compare the descriptions and opinions given in this with, for example, the social mores displayed in our present situation, whether it be the (callous?) nature of online dating, or the scandalous portrayal through something like OnlyFans. Human nature does not change, even if the depictions of it do.
