I'm a little confused. The Film shows a BOAC VC10 but they were not taken on by BOAC until 1964. The first VC10 flight was June 1962. Not complaining, just confused. I joined the RAF in late 62 so it was all good to see!

I went to 3 Tattoos at Greenham as a small boy with my family . By a strange quirk of fate (and the GPS getting confused) I ended up coming back from RIAT 24 to south London via the main gate at Greenham Common! It’s returned to common land now but I can’t bring myself to go in there , I want to keep my memories as they are . On a lighter note , it’s amazing the aircraft from that 1977 display that were involved in the latest RIAT either flying or static including the B52, Eagle , Hunter , Grumman Tracker , Tornado plus others . Many thanks for posting this up, if it hadn’t been for my mad excursion I wouldn’t have had the inspiration to search !😂

i feel the same way. about Greenham. i live about 10 mins from the former airbase and i am still a regular attendee of the RIAT it broke my heart to see the former airbase returned to common land again. though some of the runway still remains and the control tower is being preserved. i have many good memory's of the common. thankfully i have lots of phots taken over the years. some aircraft we will never see in flight again. i do enjoy Fairford but somehow it has a totally different vibe from Greenham. but thank you for posting and sharing this video you have brought back lots of good memory's

I was on the pier at Eastbourne in the 60s with my fishing rod which I'd acquired with my Green Shield stamps. A man walked past me & said, "You'll never catch any fish with that!" (I didn't). Ghastly monotonous amateur music btw. Couldn't you find anything better? How about those young lads from Liverpool? Er, what was their name again?

This strays into 1968 or 1969. There's a BEA Jet Ranger and a Laker 707 , both first registered in 1968. The first Jet Ranger (N-reg) seen in the UK was in Sep 66 and the first registered in UK was 1967. Also, the earlier bits show a Dominie and a Victor - I don't think they were at Biggin at all - somewhere else I think.

I wonder which part of the 1960s this Christmas footage is from? From the clothing and general appearance of things, something tells me Christmas 1965/66 perhaps? And coal fires! Remember them?! Christmas or not, the coal fire would still have to be made ... ashes and coke cinders shovelled out first, then crumpled used newspaper from the day before, topped with firewood and then finally coal to start the whole thing off and establish the heat in the living room. Ah memories ...

People had less then but they seem happier in this footage than us lot of today. If this were footage of today the youngsters would be hidden away in their bedrooms, shouting and cursing at their flatscreen fifty-inch TVs while flicking and jabbing the buttons and switches of their PS5 consoles. You would not see kids partaking in games with their parents and grandparents, that to them would be boring, embarrassing and silly. Still, Christmas is for the kids and as long as they’re happy with the gifts that’s all that counts. ❤
